Buy the DUET and get both Barn Burner and Burnin' It Down in one volume at a discounted price. BARN BURNER - Book One After being away for over six years, fire fighter Tripp Landers has returned to the rural suburbs of Dallas to find his high school sweetheart, Laney Bradshaw, up to her eyeballs in a hay fire that destroys her feed store. Laney broke Tripp’s heart their last year in high school when she dumped him the night of their senior prom, and they haven’t seen each other in over six years. So, why is it that he’s never been able to get her out of his head? Laney’s affluent girlfriends had been determined to break up the match because they considered Tripp to be from the wrong side of the tracks. So, they had conspired to create a situation where Laney would catch Tripp kissing another girl—and Laney had played right into their hands. She had told Tripp to get lost that night, but it didn’t take long for her to figure out what had really happened. Unfortunately, it would only have hurt Tripp to know they considered him low-class, and Laney would rather die than ever cause him that kind of pain. She chose, instead, to let him believe she was shallow and unfeeling than to ever tell him the truth about what had happened that night—even though it meant letting him go. Now Tripp Landers is back in town, but there’s a lot of water under that bridge, and Laney Bradshaw is buried under a mountain of life-gone-wrong. Will old grudges destroy their lives and keep them apart forever? Can Tripp and Laney find a second chance at love? Or are they destined to screw things up yet one more time? BURNIN' IT DOWN - Book Two When female fire fighter, Callie Walters, responds to a house fire at Jace Bradshaw’s brother’s house, sparks fly…and it ain’t just the turkey that’s burnin’. But then, Jace learns something that makes him believe Callie is a shallow gold digger, just like his ex-wife. He’s had enough of that breed of cat to last a lifetime. She takes him for a player living out of the back of a horse trailer—exactly like her rodeo bum father. That’s a life she never wants to experience again. Can a gold digger settle for life in a horse trailer? Can a rodeo bum offer enough to capture her interest? Will these two sort things out or will it all go up in smoke?

Book Synopsis Rounded Up in Glory by : Michael Grauer
Download or read book Rounded Up in Glory written by Michael Grauer and published by University of North Texas Press. This book was released on 2016-08-15 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frank Reaugh (1860-1945; pronounced "Ray") was called "the Dean of Texas artists" for good reason. His pastels documented the wide-open spaces of the West as they were vanishing in the late nineteenth century, and his plein air techniques influenced generations of artists. His students include a "Who's Who" of twentieth-century Texas painters: Alexandre Hogue, Reveau Bassett, and Lucretia Coke, among others. He was an advocate of painting by observation, and encouraged his students to do the same by organizing legendary sketch trips to West Texas. Reaugh also earned the title of Renaissance man by inventing a portable easel that allowed him to paint in high winds, and developing a formula for pastels, which he marketed. A founder of the Dallas Art Society, which became the Dallas Museum of Art, Reaugh was central to Dallas and Oak Cliff artistic circles for many years until infighting and politics drove him out of fashion. He died isolated and poor in 1945. The last decade has seen a resurgence of interest in Reaugh, through gallery shows, exhibitions, and a recent documentary. Despite his importance and this growing public profile, however, Rounded Up in Glory is the first full-length biography. Michael Grauer argues for Reaugh's importance as more than just a "longhorn painter." Reaugh's works and far-reaching imagination earned him a prominent place in the Texas art pantheon.

Book Synopsis Cowboys, Cops, Killers, and Ghosts by : Kenneth L. Untiedt
Download or read book Cowboys, Cops, Killers, and Ghosts written by Kenneth L. Untiedt and published by University of North Texas Press. This book was released on 2013-12-15 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Publication of the Texas Folklore Society has something for everyone. The first section features a good bit of occupational lore, including articles on cowboys—both legendary ones and the relatively unknown men who worked their trade day by day wherever they could. You’ll also find a unique, personal look at a famous outlaw and learn about a teacher’s passion for encouraging her students to discover their own family culture, as well as unusual weddings, somewhat questionable ways to fish, and one woman’s love affair with a bull. The backbone of the PTFS series has always been miscellanies—diverse examinations of the many types of lore found throughout Texas and the Southwest. These books offer a glimpse of what goes on at our annual meetings, as the best of the papers presented are frequently selected for our publications. Of course, the presentations are only a part of what the Society does at the meetings, but reading these publications offers insight into our members’ interests in everything from bikers and pioneers of Tejana music to serial killers and simple folk from small-town Texas. These works also suggest the importance of the “telling of the tale,” with an emphasis on oral tradition, as well as some of the customs we share. All of these things together— the focus on tradition at our meetings, the fellowship among members, and the diversity of our research—are what sustain the Texas Folklore Society.

Download or read book The Cowboy in Country Music written by Don Cusic and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2011-07-29 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This series of biographical profiles shines a spotlight on that special place "Where the West meets the Guitar." From Gene Autry and Roy Rogers to contemporary artists like Michael Murphy, Red Steagall, Don Edwards and Riders in the Sky, many entertainers have performed music of the West, a genre separate from mainstream country music and yet an important part of the country music heritage. Once called "Country and Western," it is now described as "Country or Western." Though much has been written about "Country," very little has been written about "Western"--until now. Featured are a number of photos of the top stars in Western music, past and present. Also included is an extensive bibliography of works related to the Western music field.
