Download or read book Centers and Peripheries in Knowledge Production written by Leandro Rodriguez Medina and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the circulation of knowledge within globalization, focusing on the differences between centers and peripheries of knowledge production in the social sciences. It explores not only how knowledge is appropriated in peripheral fields but also how foreign ideas shape those fields and the trajectories of scholars, and uses actor-network theory to explain circulation of knowledge as an extension of socio-technical networks that transcend borders.
Book Synopsis Game of Mirrors: Centre-Periphery National Conflicts by : Francisco Letamendia
Download or read book Game of Mirrors: Centre-Periphery National Conflicts written by Francisco Letamendia and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-30 with total page 523 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2000. Nationalism and the national question have represented a problem since the early years of the 19th century. Understanding these phenomena represents a challenge for political science, because "the nation" is not a natural phenomenon, rather it is the consequence of nationalism. Attempts to reduce nationalism to one or several factors have been unsuccessful; it has multiple factors that are variable in space and time. Nationalism is a problem of beliefs and conscience linked to the historical action of nationalist groups. A second difficulty derives from the distinction between nationalism of the dominant and nationalism of the oppressed. The majority of political theorists now believe that these centre and periphery nationalisms are different and therefore adversaries. Using first-hand experience of Basque separatism as a starting point, the author adds to it with the main manifestations of this phenomenon around the world.
Book Synopsis The Government and Politics of Spain by : Paul M. Heywood
Download or read book The Government and Politics of Spain written by Paul M. Heywood and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 1995-08-16 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the widespread attention attracted by Spain's remarkable transition from General Franco's repressive dictatorship to a dynamic democracy, this is the first comprehensive study in English of the new Spanish political system. The book introduces the main institutions and features of the contemporary Spanish state and assesses to what extent these still bear the imprint of the Francoist legacy. Despite some remaining obstacles and difficulties, Paul Heywood argues, the country is now decisively in the political mainstream of the new Europe.

Book Synopsis Principios de Economía Política by : Carl Menger
Download or read book Principios de Economía Política written by Carl Menger and published by Bubok. This book was released on 2012-10-23 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Mastering Globalization by : Stéphane Paquin
Download or read book Mastering Globalization written by Stéphane Paquin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2005-10-05 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary globalization is transforming and undermining the role of the nation-state, causing it to lose its grip on both the national economy and identity. This is a penetrating analysis of this phenomenon and an explorationn of how governments - national, regional, local, global city-regions - can respond. This original selection of essays discusses the impact of globalization on nation-states and the international system, the consequent political and sociological fragmentation of nations, and the rise of multiple identities within those nations. These essays uniquely investigate the dramatic effect of globalization on governance, outlining how sub-state 'governments' have now become international actors. This volume delivers a key insight into the way globalization is reshaping political relationships, and will be of interest to students of politics, international studies and globalization.

Book Synopsis Latin America's Leaders by : Rut Diamint
Download or read book Latin America's Leaders written by Rut Diamint and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-12-15 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cult-of-personality or true democracy? The rise of populism worldwide, combined with the overwhelming success of leaders in Latin America, has positioned the region at the forefront of political debate. Conventional wisdom presents this trend as a handful of charismatic individuals leading an ideological challenge to liberal democracy. But can it really be that simple? Based on exclusive interviews with over three hundred politicians – former presidents, vice presidents, current party officials and hundreds more – Latin America's Leaders exposes what the Pink Tide really thinks of its presidents. Arguing that the political styles of leaders such as Hugo Chávez, Rafael Correa, Álvaro Uribe and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner are far better explained in the context of their respective countries' party systems, the authors examine political stability through the paradoxical relationship between democracy and the concentration of power in charismatic individuals. This is the definitive guide to the world's most left-wing continent.
Book Synopsis Dominio Político: Permanencias Y Cambios by :
Download or read book Dominio Político: Permanencias Y Cambios written by and published by Teseo. This book was released on 2009-03-04 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
