Book Synopsis Energetic Food Webs by : John C. Moore
Download or read book Energetic Food Webs written by John C. Moore and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2012-05-31 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In ecosystems with many species, food webs form highly complex networks of resource-consumer interactions. At the same time, the food web as itself needs sufficient resources to develop and survive. So in fact, food web ecology is about how natural resources form the basis of biological communities, in terms of species richness and abundances as well as how species are organised in communities on the basis of the resource availability and use. The central theme of this book is that patterns in the utilisation of energy result from the trophic interactions among species, and that these patterns form the basis of ecosystem stability. The authors integrate the latest work on community dynamics, ecosystem energetics, and stability, and in so doing attempt to dispel the categorisation of the field into the separate subdisciplines of population, community, and ecosystem ecology. Energetic Food Webs represents the first attempt to bridge the gap between the energetic and species approaches to ecology.

Book Synopsis Functional Analysis of Problem Behavior by : Alan C. Repp
Download or read book Functional Analysis of Problem Behavior written by Alan C. Repp and published by Cengage Learning. This book was released on 1999 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contains several articles by experts in the fields of special education and psychology. Each article explores the issues, theories, and practices of assessing problem behavior and determining how to use this information. Together, the articles of this text present current advances in the use of functional assessment technology: taking the techniques and strategies of traditional functional analysis and using this information to construct clinical interventions. Three sections focus on the following topics: how functional assessment can be used to intervene effectively and change problem behavior, common procedures for using functional assessment in the preschool and school classroom, and new directions and trends in the field of functional assessment. A thorough and well-researched base of knowledge on problem behavior is provided, and the student learns the many ways in which this behavior may be diagnosed, intervened, and ideally changed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to increasing global food needs as a result of population growth, the use of new food sources has gained interest in the last decade. However, the inclusion of new foods in our diet, as well as the increased interest of the population in consuming foods with better nutritional properties, has increased the need for adequate food analytical methods. This monographic issue presents innovative methods of chemical analysis of foods, as well as the nutritional and chemical characterization of foods whose consumption is expected to increase worldwide in the coming years.
Book Synopsis Genus Rheum (Polygonaceae) by : Shahzad A. Pandith

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genus Rheum (Polygonaceae): A Global Perspective provides an integrative overview of a genus of highly valued medicinal herbs. It emphasizes in detail various aspects of research on Rheum, from its origin to conservation. The book evaluates the concepts, definitions, models, and findings involved in understanding its botany, ecology, chemistry, ethnobotany, pharmacology, and molecular biology as well as the employment of in vitro propagation strategies vis-à-vis its threat status as a conservation measure. It includes earlier approaches and the recent state-of-art biotechnological interventions to understand and modulate the pathways involved in the biosynthesis of specialized metabolites of therapeutic significance, making it an essential guide and reference to a broader interdisciplinary readership. It also explores the pharmacological importance of Rheum vis-à-vis traditional utility and highlights different areas that need further research and exploration. Moreover, the book describes how this species has reached the brink of extinction and evaluates the role of different conservation strategies that have been employed from time to time. It also describes how in vitro propagation can serve as a means of its multiplication as well as for the generation of desired bioactive chemical constituents within a short time. Features An integrated approach to elucidate the complex taxonomic history of genus Rheum across the world A repository for the traditional utility of rhubarb across cultures for a spectrum of simple to complex human ailments A rich source of findings and insights on phytochemicals reported to date with their potential use as therapeutic agents Elucidation of different genetic, cytological, and biotechnological interventions employed to understand its adaptability, acclimatization, and stability under tremendous natural and anthropogenic pressure Integration of available information, presented in a single lucid script easily accessible to students, researchers, and interested citizens across the world
