This book was released on 2014-03-14 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermal Insulation Handbook for the Oil and Gas Industries addresses relative design, materials, procedures, and standard installation necessities for various oil and gas infrastructure such as pipelines, subsea equipment, vessels, and tanks. With the continued increase in available natural gas ready to export — especially LNG — and the definition of "deepwater" changing every year, an understanding of thermal insulation is more critical than ever. This one-of-a-kind handbook helps oil and gas engineers ensure that their products are exporting safely and that the equipment's integrity is protected. Topics include: Design considerations and component selection, including newer materials such as cellular glass Methods to properly install the insulation material and notable inspection and safety considerations in accordance with applicable US and international standards, specifically designed for the oil and gas industry Calculations to make sure that every scenario is considered and requirements for size, composition, and packaging are met effectively Understand all appropriate, new and existing, insulation material properties as well as installation requirements Gain practical knowledge on factors affecting insulation efficiency, rules of thumb, and links to real-world case studies Maximize flow assurance safely and economically with critical calculations provided

Book Synopsis Prevention and Control of Culvert Icing by : Kevin L. Carey
Download or read book Prevention and Control of Culvert Icing written by Kevin L. Carey and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: U.S. Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory field inspections and data collection on icing conditions and methods of control prior to 1966 provided background to the overall study. A literature survey, covering primarily American and Russian experience, and a survey by questionnaire of highway maintenance forces in Alaska provided background to a field study of icing prevention and control covering four winter seasons in Alaska. Climatological, culvert temperature, ground temperature and hydrologic data were collected at Grenac, Steele and Flume Creeks near Fairbanks, Alaska, to extend understanding of icing phenomena. Field trials were conducted at Bear Creek, Grenac Creek, Steele Creek, Moose Creek and Gakona Spring to test three expedient techniques for controlling icing: electric heating cables, channel improvement and channel covers.

Book Synopsis Plant and Microbe Adaptations to Cold in a Changing World by : Ryozo Imai
Download or read book Plant and Microbe Adaptations to Cold in a Changing World written by Ryozo Imai and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-09-14 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book includes papers from keynote lecture and oral presentations of Plant and Microbe Adaptations to Cold (PMAC) 2012, an international conference on winter hardiness of crop and pathogenic microbes. The PMAC has been started in 1997 in Japan as an interdisciplinary forum for scientists and extension people working in the field in plant pathology, plant physiology, microbiology, and crop breeding to increase our knowledge and improve our understanding of overwintering of crops, forages and grasses and solve the problems associated with losses due to freezing and heavy snow cover. Successive meetings have been held in Iceland (2000), Canada (2003), Italy (2006), and Norway (2009). PMAC2012 will be a special meeting with a focus on global climate change, food security and agriculture sustainability and the whole program will be arranged to reflect this theme. The topics covered by this proceedings includes, global warming in agricultural environment, plant adaptations to cold, microbial adaptations to cold, plant-microbe interaction under cold, and molecular breeding for winter hardiness. The researches range from molecular biology to ecology and breeding. Experts in the field will report cutting edge research and thoughtful strategies for sustainability.

Book Synopsis Essential Building Science by : Jacob Deva Racusin
Download or read book Essential Building Science written by Jacob Deva Racusin and published by New Society Publishers. This book was released on 2016-11-28 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Down and dirty – a complete step-by-step guide to making, installing and living with beautiful, all-natural earthen floors Poor heat and moisture management are the enemies of durable, comfortable, and efficient housing, and good building design and construction starts with a solid understanding of good building science. Essential Building Science provides a highly visual and accessible introduction to the fundamentals of building science for residential construction. Part one covers the rationale behind high-performance design and the fundamentals of building physics, including thermal dynamics, moisture transfer, and hygro-thermal dynamics such as vapor drive and condensation. Part two teaches the vital critical thinking skills needed to consider buildings as whole systems and to develop thermal and moisture control strategies regardless of the specifics of the design. Case studies and examples from across North American climatic zones illuminate real-life problems and offer builders, designers, and DIYers the insights and tools required for creating better new buildings and dramatically improving old ones. Good science plus critical thinking equals high performance buildings.
