Lucy’s happy to be waitressing during the slow off-season. And she loves the new hummus bar, with every flavor from lemon to roasted red pepper. She could do without Heather Banks, though. Just minutes after eating at Kebab Kitchen—where she’s tallied up a whole list of bogus violations—she falls down dead in the street. Word on the grapevine says it’s homicide, and Lucy’s the number one suspect . . . Recipes included!
Download or read book Join the Club written by Tina Rosenberg and published by Icon Books Ltd. This book was released on 2011-04-08 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the style of Nudge or The Spirit Level - a groundbreaking book that will change the way you look at the world. Tina Rosenberg has spent her career tackling some of the world's hardest problems. The Haunted Land, her searing book on how Eastern Europe faced the crimes of Communism, was awarded both the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize in the US. In Join the Club, she identifies a brewing social revolution that is changing the way people live, based on harnessing the positive force of peer pressure. Her stories of peer power in action show how it has reduced teen smoking in the United States, made villages in India healthier and more prosperous, helped minority students get top grades in college calculus, and even led to the fall of Slobodan Milosevic. She tells how creative social entrepreneurs are starting to use peer pressure to accomplish goals as personal as losing weight and as global as fighting terrorism. Inspiring and engrossing, Join the Club explains how we can better our world through humanity's most powerful and abundant resource: our connections with one another.
Download or read book Three Many Cooks written by Pam Anderson and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 2015-04-14 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the women behind the popular blog Three Many Cooks gather in the busiest room in the house, there are never too many cooks in the kitchen. Now acclaimed cookbook author Pam Anderson and her daughters, Maggy Keet and Sharon Damelio, blend compelling reflections and well-loved recipes into one funny, candid, and irresistible book. Together, Pam, Maggy, and Sharon reveal the challenging give-and-take between mothers and daughters, the passionate belief that food nourishes both body and soul, and the simple wonder that arises from good meals shared. Pam chronicles her epicurean journey, beginning at the apron hems of her grandmother and mother, and recounts how a cultural exchange to Provence led to twenty-five years of food and friendship. Firstborn Maggy rebelled against the family’s culinary ways but eventually found her inner chef as a newlywed faced with the terrifying reality of cooking dinner every night. Younger daughter Sharon fell in love with food by helping her mother work, lending her searing opinions and elbow grease to the grueling process of testing recipes for Pam’s bestselling cookbooks. Three Many Cooks ladles out the highs and lows, the kitchen disasters and culinary triumphs, the bitter fights and lasting love. Of course, these stories would not be complete without a selection of treasured recipes that nurtured relationships, ended feuds, and expanded repertoires, recipes that evoke forgiveness, memory, passion, and perseverance: Pumpkin-Walnut Scones, baked by dueling sisters; Grilled Lemon Chicken, made legendary by Pam’s father at every backyard cookout; Chicken Vindaloo that Maggy whipped up in a boat galley in the Caribbean; Carrot Cake obsessively perfected by Sharon for the wedding of friends; and many more. Sometimes irreverent, often moving, always honest, this collection illustrates three women’s individual and shared search for a faith that confirms what they know to be true: The divine is often found hovering not over an altar but around the stove and kitchen table. So hop on a bar stool at the kitchen island and join them to commiserate, laugh, and, of course, eat! Praise for Three Many Cooks “This beautiful book is a stirring, candid, powerful celebration of mothers, daughters, and sisters, and of family, food, and faith. The stories are relatable and real, and are woven perfectly with the time-tested, mouthwatering recipes. I loved every page, every word, and am adding this to the very small pile of books in my life that I know I’ll pick up and read again and again.”—Ree Drummond, New York Times bestselling author of The Pioneer Woman Cooks

Book Synopsis Annamaria's Kitchen - The Tastes of Hungary by : Annamaria Torok
Download or read book Annamaria's Kitchen - The Tastes of Hungary written by Annamaria Torok and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-11 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hungarian cuisine is very unique: it has been influenced by many different cultures. Based on the diversity of European folk traditions, over the centuries we developed our own ways. In this book, my intention was to introduce Traditional Hungarian Cooking. In addition to keeping alive age-old recipes, I also created some new dishes that were originally not part of the traditional Hungarian cuisine, but their roots can be found in our culture. Although I live in Canada, I was born and raised in Hungary. During these long years I have spent in North America, I have kept my passion for Hungarian food culture. Making delicious dishes is not an everyday chore for me, but rather a passion and an art. Seeing my family and friends enjoying the meal I made for them is the greatest reward I can imagine. I started mastering my cooking skills in my early teens. Long before that, even as a child, I would watch my mother in the kitchen with great curiosity. She was preparing Hungarian Style Stew, which is known as the famous Pörkölt, or the Hungarian Apple Pie that is not round but square shaped. I think I inherited my passion for cooking from my mom, although my dad was a great cook as well. In our family, good food has always played an important role, and was the focal point of holiday gatherings and special occasions. I hope everybody will enjoy this book and find their favorite foods, have fun, and create your own masterpieces. To get new ideas, please check out my webpage regularly to see my latest recipes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's Cristina Hawkins's thirtieth birthday, and the aging stripper has just spent her special night giving another local scumbag a lap dance in the champagne room at the place she works. And when she gets roughed up by her customer yet again, something seems to change in Cristina, and along with an ever-changing port city of Clearwater-a rough and wild place where anything seems to go and the rich call all the shots-nobody's ready for the scourge on the city that seems to first spread at the very place Cristina works at: Good Kitty Strip Club. And within the midnight streets of Clearwater, a serial killer is also rumored to be causing havoc on a busy population, although nobody really seems to be doing anything about it. Five years before, the bitter memory of a great flood that swept through the city has kept Clearwater in a state of forgetfulness and quiet despair of what they fear may be coming from lands far away, and from sinister figures who seem to appear from ages ago-and also from a present time where masked vigilantes, biker gangs with sawed-off shotguns, street poets, famous singers, and corrupt politicians all clutch their hands around the throat of a city on the brink of destruction.
