Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of us are regular people who have good days and bad days. Our lives are radically ordinary and unexciting. That means they're the kind of lives God gets excited about. While the world worships beauty and power and wealth, God hides his glory in the simple, the mundane, the foolish, working in unawesome people, things, and places. In our day of celebrity worship and online posturing, this is a refreshing, even transformative way of understanding God and our place in his creation. It urges us to treasure a life of simplicity, to love those whom the world passes by, to work for God's glory rather than our own. And it demonstrates that God has always been the Lord of the cross--a Savior who hides his grace in unattractive, inglorious places.Your God Is Too Glorious reminds readers that while a quiet life may look unimpressive to the world, it's the regular, everyday people that God tends to use to do his most important work.

Book excerpt: "It is our purpose to give a verse by verse exposition of the fourth Gospel in the course of this series of studies, but before turning to the opening verses of chapter I it will be necessary to consider John's Gospel as a whole, with the endeavor of discovering its scope, its central theme, and its relation to the other three Gospels. We shall not waste the reader's time by entering into a discussion as to who wrote this fourth Gospel, as to where John was when he wrote it, nor as to the probable date when it was written. These may be points of academic interest, but they provide no food for the soul, nor do they afford any help to an understanding of this section of the Bible, and these are the two chief things we desire to accomplish. Our aim is to open up the Scriptures in such a way that the reader will be able to enter into the meaning of what God has recorded for our learning in this part of His Holy Word, and to edify those who are members of the Household of Faith." Arthur Walkington Pink was an English Christian evangelist and Biblical scholar known for his staunchly Calvinist and Puritan-like teachings. Though born to Christian parents, prior to conversion he migrated into a Theosophical society (an occult gnostic group popular in England during that time), and quickly rose in prominence within their ranks. His conversion came from his father's patient admonitions from Scripture. It was the verse, Proverbs 14:12, 'there is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death, ' which particularly struck his heart and compelled him to renounce Theosophy and follow Jesus.

Book excerpt: Unlike every Easter-Passover-Resurrection documentary, play of movie ever produced this book incorporates every text, every movement and every conceivable thought found within the Bible. It is truly The Ultimate Harmony of the Gospels for Jesus' last days on Earth. Working from numerous harmonies of the Gospel, Dr. Russell Earl Kelly has merged the four biblical accounts from Christ's arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane to His ascension into one continuous smooth story line. The many so-called discrepancies and contradictions melt away in these five acts written in conversational style. Although some events are fictional they reflect what probably occurred between the lines of God's Word. Kelly has attempted to honestly portray the feelings behind the words that lead up to the gospel presentation when Jesus reveals Himself in the upper room. The final act suggests that a modern video presentation be used to dramatically portray both the ascension and return of Jesus in glory. Russell Earl Kelly is also the author of Should the Church Teach Tithing? A Theologian's Conclusions about a Taboo Doctrine and Exposing Seventh-day Adventism. His research and resources was reflected in the Wall Street Journal article, The Backlash against Tithing in November 2007.

Are prayers for mercy only for those times when we really mess up? Jonathan Parnell says we need God’s mercy all the time. In fact, contrary to many church cultures, Parnell shows that asking God for mercy should be as regular as asking God for our daily bread. There’s no doubt that David was in a terrible predicament when he first prayed the words of Psalm 51. It was a dark and shameful moment in the Bible, and one so dark and shameful it seldom feels relevant to us today. But David’s most desperate prayer is really a prayer for all of us—and not just for our worst moments, but for our every moment. In these pages, you'll discover: how to pray a daily, memorable prayer derived from Psalm 51 how to practice daily repentance and soul care how to pursue God and experience his joy in the Christian life This is God’s mercy, and it’s Mercy for Today.

His answer for the uncertain and the confused is a skillful melding of sound hermeneutics, solid exegesis, and heartfelt testimony. Pentecost demonstrates that the Pentecostal experience is by far the best twenty-first-century expression of Luke's distinctive vision of the Spirit-baptized church in mission. This book is a heartfelt invitation for all Christians to be open to a new filling of the Holy Spirit of Jesus so He can continue to do immeasurably more for and through mere human beings than any of us can ask or even imagine!

Book excerpt: From the bestselling author of The Lamb's Supper comes an illuminating work on the Catholic Eucharist and its link to the Jewish Passover meal. “Read this book. And don’t just read it. Pray about it. Reflect on it. And share it with others.”—Brant Pitre, author of The Case for Jesus In this brilliant book—part memoir, part detective story, and part biblical study—Scott Hahn opens up new vistas on ancient landscapes while shedding light on his own enduring faith journey. The Fourth Cup not only tracks the author’s gradual conversion along the path of Evangelicalism to the doorsteps of the Catholic faith, but also explores the often obscure and misunderstood rituals of Passover and their importance in foreshadowing salvation in Jesus Christ. Revealing the story of his formative years as an often hot-headed student and earnest seeker in search of answers to great biblical mysteries, Hahn shows how his ardent exploration of the Bible’s Old Testament turned up intriguing clues connecting the Last Supper and Christ’s death on Calvary. As Hahn tells the story of his discovery of the supreme importance of the Passover in God’s plan of salvation, we too experience often-overlooked relationships between Abel, Abraham, and the Hebrews’ liberation from slavery in Egypt. Along the way, Hahn reveals how the traditional fourth cup of wine used in the concluding celebration of Passover explains in astonishing ways Christ’s paschal sacrifice. Rooted in Scripture and ingrained with lively history, The Fourth Cup delivers a fascinating view of the bridges that span old and new covenants, and celebrates the importance of the Jewish faith in understanding more fully Christ’s life, death, and resurrection.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An acclaimed expert in Christian mysticism travels to a monastery high in the Trodos Mountains of Cyprus and offers a fascinating look at the Greek Orthodox approach to spirituality that will appeal to readers of Carlos Castaneda. In an engaging combination of dialogues, reflections, conversations, history, and travel information, Kyriacos C. Markides continues the exploration of a spiritual tradition and practice little known in the West he began in Riding with the Lion. His earlier book took readers to the isolated peninsula of Mount Athos in northern Greece and into the group of ancient monasteries. There, in what might be called a “Christian Tibet,” two thousand monks and hermits practice the spiritual arts to attain a oneness with God. In his new book, Markides follows Father Maximos, one of Mount Athos’s monks, to the troubled island of Cyprus. As Father Maximos establishes churches, convents, and monasteries in this deeply divided land, Markides is awakened anew to the magnificent spirituality of the Greek Orthodox Church. Images of the land and the people of Cyprus and details of its tragic history enrich the Mountain of Silence. Like the writings of Castaneda, the book brilliantly evokes the confluence of an inner and outer journey. The depth and richness of its spiritual message echo the thoughts and writings of Saint Francis of Assisi and other great saints of the Church as well. The result is a remarkable work–a moving, profoundly human examination of the role and the power of spirituality in a complex and confusing world.

Often, they don't! This book will give you a fresh understanding of 'Salvation', of Christ and His cross, and will restore your passion to know more of Christ, and all that Jesus won for you. Salvation may appear complicated. In truth, it's amazingly simple! Consider the Monarch butterfly! Nature foreshadows the cross in its chrysalis. From a 'worm', nature fashions a new creation¬¬""""finished, perfect! Nothing more to add! God did the same for mankind. All were crucified in Christ on His cross. He blessed us with all we need to be like Him. Now, Jesus sees you as: *perfect, righteous *totally forgiven *free of guilt, and condemnation and much more! This is the GOOD NEWS of the Gospel! But, if Christ did all this, what do I do? Jesus told us: Man's greatest work is to BELIEVE in Jesus' work on the cross! This study will show all He won for us, and the purpose for the cross""""to indwell believers. It cost Jesus everything to be in us: it will cost you everything to be in Him! 'Christ in you' will finish all He accomplished at the cross""""a likeness of Himself in you! Monarch butterflies are areal wonders of the sky; we as believers with Christ in us are wonders of the Father's Kingdom, soaring as new creations in Christ, on wings of His grace. Change is man's ordained destiny! Believing is the key that turns redemption's lock! The more we are drawn to partner with Jesus, and to others in Christ's Body, the greater the change will be in us, and the world!

Book excerpt: The following dissertation concerning the Trinity, as the reader ought to be informed, has been written in order to guard against the sophistries of those who disdain to begin with faith, and are deceived by a crude and perverse love of reason. Now one class of such men endeavor to transfer to things incorporeal and spiritual the ideas they have formed, whether through experience of the bodily senses, or by natural human wit and diligent quickness, or by the aid of art, from things corporeal; so as to seek to measure and conceive of the former by the latter.
