Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Occupational therapist, Barbara Smith shared her creative fine-motor strategies in her groundbreaking book- "From Rattles to Writing: A Parent's Guide to Hand Skills". Now her new book- "From Flapping to Function: A Parent's Guide to Autism and Hand Skills" will help children and adults of all ages and ability levels to reach their potential whether at home, school or in the community. This valuable resource explains how and why many children with autism do not use their hands in a functional manner. Flapping the hands and lining up small items often replace natural fine motor experiences that are important for the development of hand skills. Smith not only offers practical strategies to encourage children with autism to use their hands for functional tasks, she provides information and techniques to promote improved sensory processing, the development of visual skills, and much more. Here is what you will learn from reading this book. -How do I reinforce positive behavior? -What is a strategy that I can use to get my child to make eye contact with others? -How do I get my child to cross midline or use both hands together? -What is a visual schedule? -How do sensory processing challenges impact development? -What are some effective strategies to promote writing skills? -How can computer apps be used as teaching tools? Written in parent friendly language and packed with relatable vignettes, readers will learn how to quickly, easily and inexpensively adapt activities and use effective teaching strategies. Other features in this book include an extensive glossary, resources, and activity photos. "From Flapping to Function" is also an excellent guide for therapists, educators and others who want to understand the impact of autism spectrum disorders on hand function and effectively help children to reach their learning potentials and independence to perform everyday activities .
Book Synopsis Mechanics of Flow-Induced Vibration by : Rajeev Jaiman
Download or read book Mechanics of Flow-Induced Vibration written by Rajeev Jaiman and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-06-10 with total page 1028 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses various passive and active techniques for controlling unsteady flow dynamics and associated coupled mechanics of fluid-structure interaction. Coupled multiphysics and multidomain simulations are emerging and challenging research areas, which have received significant attention during the past decade. One of the most common multiphysics and multidomain problems is fluid-structure interaction (FSI), i.e., the study of coupled physical systems involving fluid and a structure that have a mechanical influence on each other. Regardless of the application area, the investigation toward modeling of fluid-structure interaction and the underlying mechanisms in dealing with coupled fluid-structure instability with real-world applications remains a challenge to scientists and engineers. This book is designed for students and researchers who seek knowledge of computational modeling and control strategies for fluid-structure interaction. Specifically, this book provides a comprehensive review of the underlying unsteady physics and coupled mechanical aspects of the fluid-structure interaction of freely vibrating bluff bodies, the self-induced flapping of thin flexible structures, and aeroelasticity of shell structures. Understanding flow-induced loads and vibrations can lead to safer and cost-effective structures, especially for light and high-aspect ratio structures with increased flexibility and harsh environmental conditions. Using the body-fitted and moving mesh formulations, the physical insights associated with structure-to-fluid mass ratios, Reynolds number, nonlinear structural deformation, proximity interference, near-wall contacts, free-surface, and other interacting physical fields are covered in this book. In conjunction with the control techniques, data-driven model reduction approaches based on subspace projection and deep neural calculus are covered for low-dimensional modeling of unsteady fluid-structure interaction.
Book Synopsis Introduction to Aeroelasticity by : Harijono Djojodihardjo
Download or read book Introduction to Aeroelasticity written by Harijono Djojodihardjo and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-09-03 with total page 1080 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook is intended as a core text for courses on aeroelasticity or aero-elasto-mechanics for senior undergraduate/graduate programs in aerospace and mechanical engineering. The book focuses on the basic understanding of the concepts required in learning about aeroelasticity, from observation, reasoning, and understanding fundamental physical principles. Fundamental and simple mathematics will be introduced to describe the features of aeroelastic problems, and to devise simple concurrent physical and mathematical modeling. It will be accompanied by the introduction and understandings of the mechanisms that create the interactions that generate the aeroelastic phenomena considered. The students will also be led to the relation between observed phenomena, assumptions that may have to be adopted to arrive at physical and mathematical modelling, interpreting and verifying the results, and the accompanied limitations, uncertainties and inaccuracies. The students will also be introduced to combine engineering problem solving attitude and determination with simple mechanics problem-solving skills that coexist harmoniously with a useful mechanical intuition.

Book excerpt: The modern helicopter is a sophisticated device which merges a surprising number of technologies together. This wide range of disciplines is one of the fascinations of the helicopter, but it is also makes a complete understanding difficult. Those searching for an understanding of the helicopter will find The Art of the Helicopter invaluable. John Watkinson approaches every subject associated with the helicopter from first principles and builds up in a clearly explained logical sequence using plain English and clear diagrams, avoiding unnecessary mathematics. Technical terms and buzzwords are defined and acronyms are spelled out. Misnomers, myths and old wives tales (for there are plenty surrounding helicopters) are disposed of. Whilst the contents of the book are expressed in straightforward language there is no oversimplification and the content is based on established physics and accepted theory. The student of helicopter technology or aerodynamics will find here a concise introduction leading naturally to more advanced textbooks on the subject.* Designed to complement the instruction of PPL(H) flying training in order to assist helicopter pilots in-training to achieve their "wings".* Clear and simple diagrams aid verbal explanations to provide an easy to understand account of how helicopters are made, how they fly and how to fly them.* The only book to cover all the aspects of helicopter design, manufacture and performance in one volume.
