The purpose of this book is to in a new era, in which cell structures could be provide a bridge, to help those who are familiar visualized down to a macromolecular level. It is of with conventional electron microscopy, to cross course well recognized that some cell components into the less familiar freeze-etching. This has been can be modified or even completely lost during the done by providing paired photographs wherever complex sequence of fixation, dehydration, staining possible, one showing the thin section of a tissue or and plastic embedding which is essential before a a cell, the other a freeze-etch replica of a similar thin section can be obtained. Further, only these cell material. At the same time we have tried to provide components which can be made electron opaque a basis for interpretation of freeze-etched structures, can be visualized. For these reasons, the morpho and we hope the reader will find the first 23 Plates logist and cell biologist alike have to explore alter especially useful in this respect. Because there are native techniques of specimen preparation which many excellent atlases of cell structure available at may avoid some of the artefacts inherent in con the present time, we felt there was no need to ventional thin-section electron microscopy, and at provide lengthy discussions of each plate.
Book Synopsis An Atlas of Comparative Vertebrate Histology by : Donald B. McMillan
Download or read book An Atlas of Comparative Vertebrate Histology written by Donald B. McMillan and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2018-06-04 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atlas of Comparative Vertebrate Histology looks at the histology of a wide range of vertebrates, representative of all the major classes and families, with examples ranging from amphioxus to primates. The authors focus their microscope on commonly seen vertebrates as well as 'non-standard' species, such as lamprey, hagfish, dogfish, skate, rock bass, cod, river catfish, toad, amphiuma, leopard and bull frog, garter and brown snake, Coturnix quail and cowbird. The study of comparative histology in the vertebrates helps students and researchers alike understand how various groups have addressed similar problems, opening doors to interesting research possibilities. Not all vertebrates follow the mammalian model of tissue and organ structure. When dealing with unique species, we see some structures taken beyond their 'normal' function. Comparative histology allows us to understand the structural responses underlying the physiology unique to each vertebrate group. - Presents the histology of a wide range of vertebrates, representative of all the major classes and families, with examples ranging from amphioxus to primates - Includes an image gallery with over 500 flat images and 50+ virtual microscopy slides - Contains electronic content features cross linking between text, tables and the image gallery

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past three decades, histology has seen enormous progress, thanks to new techniques and new investigation instruments. Numerous discoveries of important structures and morphofunctional phenomena have been described in a wealth of papers of ever increasing size and complexity. These publi cations have become difficult to follow, not only because of their number, but also because of a disparity of terminology and the multitude of synonyms employed by different authors. All of this makes reading and comprehension of the progress that has been achieved laborious, even for histologists, but especially for students, researchers in other basic branches of medicine, or clinicians who have to consult histological texts during their studies or investigations. In order to facilitate the orientation of all those interested in histology, a concise and practical volume in encyclopedic style, defining and, at the same time, illustrating fundamental histolog ical terms, enumerating synonyms, and describing morpho functional phenomena has become necessary, both because a work of this genre does not exist and because the list of Latin terms elaborated by the International Anatomical Nomenclature Committee in 1977 does not give illustrations or definitions of histological terms. The present work attempts to redress this deficiency.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This best-selling atlas contains over 900 images and illustrations to help you learn and review the microstructure of human tissues. The book starts with a section on general cell structure and replication. Basic tissue types are covered in the following section, and the third section presents the microstructures of each of the major body systems. The highest -quality color light micrographs and electron micrograph images are accompanied by concise text and captions which explain the appearance, function, and clinical significance of each image. The accompanying website lets you view all the images from the atlas with a "virtual microscope", allowing you to view the image at a variety of pre-set magnifications. Utilizes "virtual microscope" function on the website, allowing you to see images first in low-powered and then in high powered magnification. Incorporates new information on histology of bone marrow, male reproductive system, respiratory system, pancreas, blood, cartilage, muscle types, staining methods, and more. Uses Color coding at the side of each page to make it easier to access information quickly and efficiently. Book Synopsis Techniques in Neuroanatomical Research by : C. Heym
Download or read book Techniques in Neuroanatomical Research written by C. Heym and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Anatomy is the mother of physiology" - this statement was used to characterize the evolution of physiology from anato my as an independent science in the late nineteenth century. It had particular truth for neurophysiology, which started as functional neuroanatomy based on the observation of changes in behaviour after lesions of the nervous system both in ex perimental animals and in human patients. Today, anatomy may again be considered the mother of physiology; however, the meaning of this statement is rather different from that 100 years ago: The modem mother provides a dwelling for an increasing number of children endowed with new functional capabilities. This book provides a good illustration of such se mantic metamorphosis in the case of neuroanatomy. After a long period of little progress in either macroscopic neuroanatomy or neurohistology, during which the heritage of Cajal, Golgi, and others was developed and refined to yield a functional concept of the nervous system, the past two de cades have seen tremendous progress in methods applicable to the analysis of the nervous system. The new era was heralded by the introduction of the electron microscope to investigate the nervous system. This book is an impressive witness to the more recent developments.
