Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The intention of this book is to provide an impression of all aspects of p- tovoltaics (PV). It is not just about physics and technology or systems, but it looks beyond that at the entire environment in which PV is embedded. The ?rst chapter is intended as an introduction to the subject. It can also be considered an executive summary. Chapters 2–4 describe very brie?y the basic physics and technology of the solar cell. The silicon cell is the vehicle for this description because it is the best understood solar cell and also has the greatest practical importance. A reader who is not interested in the ph- ical details of the solar cell can skip Chap.2 and still understand the rest of the book. In general, it was the intention of the authors to keep the book at a level that does not require too much previous knowledge of photovoltaics. Chapter5isdevotedtoothermaterialsandnewconceptspresentlyunder- velopment or consideration. It intends to provide an impression of the many possibilities that exist for the conversion of solar radiation into electricity by solid state devices. These new concepts will keep researchers occupied for decades to come. Chapter 6 gives an introduction to cell and module techn- ogy and also informs the reader about the environmental compatibility and recycling of modules. The following chapters are devoted to practical applications. Chapters 7 and 8 introduce systems technology for di?erent applications. The envir- mental impact of PV systems and their reliability is the subject of Chap.9.

Book excerpt: This volume examines the outlook for renewable energy in electricity generation-particularly wind and solar power-as a substitute for conventional fuels such as coal and natural gas. Economist Benjamin Zycher evaluates the central arguments in favor of policies that would make way for broader use of renewables and concludes that all are deeply problematic. "Renewable" energy sources are not superior in cost to conventional fuels; nor are they less taxing on the environment. The popular argument that increased use of renewables will create "green jobs" is likewise a fallacy-because wind and solar power are costly and inefficient, the net economic impact is a negative one. Zycher concludes that resource-use behaviors emerging from market competition are the best guides to effective, sustainable energy policies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is incumbent upon man to become aware of the powerful forces that surround him and may be leading him to a possible unexpected outcome. He must come out of complacency and see his purpose for what it is was meant to be by the Creator. The status quo of oil should be slowly but unequivocally phased out. When it first oozed from the ground, it became the driving force of the economy. It was meant to be that way. God made sure of that. But man has decided today to abuse that purpose by using it to manipulate economies and start wars in the name of peace, only to lead man in the path of destruction by the way of an agenda. Man feels he must take control of man, contrary to the wishes of God. But man can save himself by bringing about the change that is waiting to be unveiled in the ushering in of free energy. It is real but must be given the proper venue. My life tells a metaphor as a connection, like thunder as the voice of God and lighting as the glare of his eyes that foretell a warning, though it is so common, man tends not to see the connection. He must look at things differently. It is not for me to judge. The Creator has the last word on that, just as He has the last word in the written prophesies. However, I can suggest, though controversial it might seem, but not to dismiss that perhaps it is a destiny to fit within the context of prophetical events. My inquisitiveness, with its very humble beginnings and all of its twists and turns, brought me to these times and led me to a quest to seek a truth that must be acknowledged. It is the key to avert war and bring about peace. It is the simple inventions in search of that truth that so many are seeking, including me. It is the connection between God and man just as certain as Jesus was His begotten son to serve as the check and balance for the assurance of peace if man chooses. And it is the complete story a metaphor that parallels the troubles of man with the possible outcomes and in congruence with the vigilance of the angels who don't sleep but are paying attention, who will allow peace, lest man bring wrath upon himself. He is the magnet that holds the truth as is the physical magnet that holds that secret, the secret to Finding Free Energy.

Book excerpt: Clean, sustainable energy solutions from the geniuses of our past and the visionaries of our future • Explores five great but nearly forgotten minds of the past--John Worrell Keely, Nikola Tesla, Viktor Schauberger, Royal Raymond Rife, and T. Townsend Brown--and their revolutionary discoveries • Reveals information from leading experts on cold fusion, zero-point energy, power from water, antigravity, and the free-energy potential of the Searl Effect Generator As the global need for clean, renewable energy grows and the shortage of viable large-scale solutions continues, it is time to look to the geniuses of our past and the visionaries of our future for answers. Taking inspiration from Albert Einstein’s statement that “Problems cannot be solved by the same level of thinking that created them,” Finley Eversole explains that the key to a pollution- and poverty-free future of infinite energy lies not in pursuing one single method, but in investigating all the possibilities--in uniting as a world in creative pursuit of global transformation. Exploring five nearly unknown geniuses of our past--John Worrell Keely, Nikola Tesla, Viktor Schauberger, Royal Raymond Rife, and T. Townsend Brown--and their revolutionary discoveries about free energy, electricity, water vortex motion, electric ray and super-microscope technology, and antigravity, this book helps to restore their long-suppressed scientific legacies and bring us one step closer to the destiny they foresaw. Eversole has gathered research from leading experts on cold fusion, zero-point energy, power from water, and the free-energy potential of the Searl Effect Generator to reveal technologies that work with Nature’s laws and that, if fully implemented, could establish sustainable energy systems in a single generation.

Book excerpt: A comprehensive account of how energy has shaped society throughout history, from pre-agricultural foraging societies through today's fossil fuel–driven civilization. "I wait for new Smil books the way some people wait for the next 'Star Wars' movie. In his latest book, Energy and Civilization: A History, he goes deep and broad to explain how innovations in humans' ability to turn energy into heat, light, and motion have been a driving force behind our cultural and economic progress over the past 10,000 years. —Bill Gates, Gates Notes, Best Books of the Year Energy is the only universal currency; it is necessary for getting anything done. The conversion of energy on Earth ranges from terra-forming forces of plate tectonics to cumulative erosive effects of raindrops. Life on Earth depends on the photosynthetic conversion of solar energy into plant biomass. Humans have come to rely on many more energy flows—ranging from fossil fuels to photovoltaic generation of electricity—for their civilized existence. In this monumental history, Vaclav Smil provides a comprehensive account of how energy has shaped society, from pre-agricultural foraging societies through today's fossil fuel–driven civilization. Humans are the only species that can systematically harness energies outside their bodies, using the power of their intellect and an enormous variety of artifacts—from the simplest tools to internal combustion engines and nuclear reactors. The epochal transition to fossil fuels affected everything: agriculture, industry, transportation, weapons, communication, economics, urbanization, quality of life, politics, and the environment. Smil describes humanity's energy eras in panoramic and interdisciplinary fashion, offering readers a magisterial overview. This book is an extensively updated and expanded version of Smil's Energy in World History (1994). Smil has incorporated an enormous amount of new material, reflecting the dramatic developments in energy studies over the last two decades and his own research over that time.
