Download or read book Achtung-Panzer! written by Heinz Guderian and published by Arms & Armour. This book was released on 1995 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is one of the most significant military books of the twentieth century. By an outstanding soldier of independent mind, it pushed forward the evolution of land warfare and was directly responsible for German armoured supremacy in the early years of the Second World War. Published in 1937, the result of 15 years of careful study since his days on the German General Staff in the First World War, Guderian's book argued, quite clearly, how vital the proper use of tanks and supporting armoured vehicles would be in the conduct of a future war. When that war came, just two years later, he proved it, leading his Panzers with distinction in the Polish, French and Russian campaigns. Panzer warfare had come of age, exactly as he had forecast. This first English translation of Heinz Guderian's classic book - used as a textbook by Panzer officers in the war - has an introduction and extensive background notes by the modern English historian Paul Harris.
Download or read book Parkinson's written by Ava S. Butler and published by Wheatmark, Inc.. This book was released on 2018-10-30 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Ava's husband, Richard, is diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, she is shocked -- not only because of the bad news, but also because Richard was right. A bit of a hypochondriac, Richard often imagined he had contracted one deadly condition or another. Over their then nineteen years of marriage Ava had dismissed his concerns. But this time it was true. In fact, he had two horrible diseases: Parkinson's and Lewy body dementia -- a fate you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. For the next seven years Ava wages war against these bad boys, writing her reflections and journaling her experiences as she tries everything she can find to help Richard. Parkinson's: A Love Story with Dementia for Dessert is her brutally honest, yet beautiful portrayal of losing her soulmate and best friend. Deeply sad at times, but also inspiring and even humorous, this story is sure to warm your heart.

Download or read book Brain Fables written by Alberto Espay and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-07-09 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An estimated 80 million people live with a neurodegenerative disease. That number is expected to increase rapidly as populations age, lifespans increase, and exposure to toxins rises. Despite decades of research and billions in funding, there are no medications that can slow, much less stop, the progress of these diseases. This is because diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's do not exist in biology. Yet, hundreds of clinical trials around the world are examining the potential of single therapies in thousands of people sharing one of these labels. Compounding the problem, these therapies were developed on evidence from models that do not come close to capturing the complexity of these diseases in the affected humans. These practices must end. Brain Fables is a call to refocus on understanding living and aging to create the personalized treatments each affected individual desperately needs.

Book Synopsis Hollywood Highbrow by : Shyon Baumann
Download or read book Hollywood Highbrow written by Shyon Baumann and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2018-06-05 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today's moviegoers and critics generally consider some Hollywood products--even some blockbusters--to be legitimate works of art. But during the first half century of motion pictures very few Americans would have thought to call an American movie "art." Up through the 1950s, American movies were regarded as a form of popular, even lower-class, entertainment. By the 1960s and 1970s, however, viewers were regularly judging Hollywood films by artistic criteria previously applied only to high art forms. In Hollywood Highbrow, Shyon Baumann for the first time tells how social and cultural forces radically changed the public's perceptions of American movies just as those forces were radically changing the movies themselves. The development in the United States of an appreciation of film as an art was, Baumann shows, the product of large changes in Hollywood and American society as a whole. With the postwar rise of television, American movie audiences shrank dramatically and Hollywood responded by appealing to richer and more educated viewers. Around the same time, European ideas about the director as artist, an easing of censorship, and the development of art-house cinemas, film festivals, and the academic field of film studies encouraged the idea that some American movies--and not just European ones--deserved to be considered art.
