Funny you should ask. . . From golf balls to corpses, Finn Coffee likes things to go neatly underground. When he lands a job after graduating from mortuary school with a prestigious funeral home in the glittery casino town of Treasure Coast, Mississippi, the perfect setup turns sour once Finn discovers his co-worker Brad Sheepcake has been making movies on the side—starring attractive ingénues with a singular talent: they're dead. Brad's sideline—necro-porn—is so successful, a ruthless crime syndicate muscles in on the action. Problem is, there aren't enough pretty girls dying fast enough to meet the demand. To speed up the process, hotties in Treasure Coast start disappearing — including a New Orleans heiress. Enter Crescent City PI Kip Quigley, hired to find the girl. Kip might look like a grown-up Hardy Boy, but he was fired from the NOLA police department for excessive violence and he's lost patience with a stupid world. During his investigation, he befriends Finn. And when the mobsters kidnap Finn's girlfriend, Polly Whitlock, to ensure he keeps his mouth shut, Kip must widen his scope to take on the entire Dixie Mafia and a lunatic former Southern rock musician. Otherwise, Polly might well become the the star of the mob's next film — The Naked and the Dead.Because poppin' a cold one ain't always about beer. . . Rick Koster is a native Texan who lives in New England with his wife, the writer Eileen Jenkins, their Catahoula Leopard Dog, Gumbo, and the spirits of the late, great greyhounds, Moosie and Puppy Brown. Poppin' a Cold One is his first novel. He cannot promise it will be his last. "Sick, twisted, and very funny. Think Six Feet Under meets the Sopranos." —Ace Atkins "Hilariously obscene! . . .as beautifully twisted as anything John Waters ever dreamed up, yet Koster's smooth command of voice and character puts him right up there with the likes of Tarantino and Elmore Leonard. Crime fiction never felt so deliciously dirty."—Joe McKinney, author of Dead City and Mutated 106,894 Words

Book excerpt: In the small mysterious town of Nelson Gap, three ghost-hunting high school friends—Kevin, Lara, and Simon—are compelled to investigate a haunted, abandoned mine to find Kevin’s missing father. What they discover far below the town is an unknown civilization and a terrifying demonic power fighting to enslave it. Will the three friends be able to rescue Kevin’s father and destroy the malevolent entity, or will all be lost for Kevin and the inhabitants of the hidden world? The Hidden World is a young adult paranormal novel by Til Turner with adventurous and oftentimes horror elements. The author perfectly describes a completely new world hidden underneath the town of Nelson Gap, discovered by three youngsters and best friends, Kevin, Simon, and Lara. The Crew, as they call themselves, embark on a grand adventure the outcome of which could save lives, including their own. They devise a plan to investigate the old mines near the town, said to be haunted, in search of Kevin's father, the town sheriff, who mysteriously went missing while on duty. Kevin and his friends descend into the cold, dark abyss of the mines, where they stumble upon a girl called Emmy. She helps them find their way through the vast darkness of the underground tunnels. What they find down there will change their lives and the lives of the town's population forever. Til Turner develops an extraordinary story of three youngsters who, for the first time in their lives, experience what responsibility, caring for a fellow human, and the value of human life means in this strange world of ours. As they travel through the mines, Kevin, Simon, and Lara are forced to grow up at the speed of light and face the consequences of their actions and the choices that they make along the way. It is an exciting life lesson that will teach them the true meaning of friendship, love, loss, family, and how to conquer dark forces lurking in the abyss they courageously ventured into on their own. Turner brings his writing and the whole story to light with detailed descriptions of the unknown spaces, the strong emotions that the characters experience, and creating the dark, suffocating atmosphere of claustrophobic and dangerous spaces that they are sucked into eventually. There is not one thing I haven't enjoyed or liked while reading The Hidden World; it is truly a wonderful novel to read...and to read again. The characters are real and relatable, and there is a feeling of being present inside that underground space as a reader, which creates a more enjoyable and overall more exciting reading experience. -Reviewed by Tanja Jurkovic for Readers' Favorite

Book excerpt: When we hear stories of spontaneous healing, assistance from angels and loved ones whove passed, the laws of physics bending or even breaking to save someone, and people using their divine creative power to claim what they desire despite appearances, our beliefs change about what is possible for us. We Are So Loved is about such miracles and more. Many of these stories may seem too fantastic to be true, but they are. As you read them, maybe youll remember some of your own miracles that you discounted as just a coincidence, luck, or just your imagination. The mystical, miraculous experiences Ive had since childhood, the stories others have shared with me of divine assistance and moments of grace, as well as the miraculous healings I witness as a Reconnective Healing Practitioner, have changed my beliefs about what is possible and continue to transform my world for the better on every level of my being. Thats what I want for you, and why Im sharing them in this book. I hope they inspire you to think and believe a little bigger and better than you did before you read them as you realize how Loved you are, Who You Really Are, and how possible the impossible really is. The miraculous experiences in this book are what fuel my lifes mission to share the truth of how Loved we are and how powerful we are when we align with the Love that is our Source of being. I hope these stories remind you of the God Within you and all life on this planet, that they awaken an awareness of the Love and well-being that is constantly flowing to you, and help you release the limiting beliefs that have kept you from allowing into your life all that your heart desires. We Are So Loved is my first book, and just the beginning of much more to come. Jill Lambert

Book excerpt: For fans of portal fantasies like Jessica Townsend's Nevermoor, Colin Meloy's Wildwood, and The Spiderwick Chronicles by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, and unlike so many other fantasies that introduce readers to a world of enchantment and wonder, The Midnight Hour is one filled with beasts and monsters for readers looking to shine their flashlights under the covers. When strange late-night letters start arriving at home, Emily's parents set off to investigate. But when her parents disappear completely and Emily is left home alone to face the weird strangers that begin to appear at her door, she takes all of the clues at her disposal and makes for the place where the letters came from -- the mysterious Night Post. What she'll discover is the secret world of the Midnight Hour -- a Victorian London frozen in time, full of magic and monsters. Kept safe by an age-old agreement, the Night Folk have been exiled to a parallel world that can only be accessed by a selected few, including the mail carriers of the infamous Night Post that operate between the two worlds. Emily's parents are key players in keeping the Night Folk safe, but when the division of the two worlds is threatened, Emily must search for her parents while navigating this dark and unknown version of London. Armed only with a packed lunch, her very sleepy pocket hedgehog, and her infamously big argumentative mouth, she must escape bloodthirsty creatures of the night, figure out her own family secrets, and maybe just save the world. This is a frightening and enchanting story, a world built out of creatures from our worst fears who become relatable, fully formed characters unlike any we've seen as these strangers of parallel worlds band together to save the day.
