Book Synopsis Beliefs, Reasoning, and Decision Making by : Roger C. Schank
Download or read book Beliefs, Reasoning, and Decision Making written by Roger C. Schank and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is not unusual for a festschrift to include offerings from several areas of study, but it is highly unusual for those areas to cross disciplinary lines. This book, in doing just that, is a testimony to Bob Abelson's impact on the disciplines of social psychology, artificial intelligence and cognitive science, and the applied areas of political psychology and decision-making. The contributors demonstrate that their association with Abelson, whether as students or colleagues, has resulted in an impressive intellectual cross-fertilization.

Book Synopsis Understanding Language Understanding by : Ashwin Ram
Download or read book Understanding Language Understanding written by Ashwin Ram and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights cutting-edge research relevant to the building of a computational model of reading comprehension, as in the processing and understanding of a natural language text or story. The book takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of reading, with contributions from computer science, psychology, and philosophy. Contributors cover the theoretical and psychological foundations of the research in discussions of what it means to understand a text, how one builds a computational model, and related issues in knowledge representation and reasoning. The book also addresses some of the broader issues that a natural language system must deal with, such as reading in context, linguistic novelty, and information extraction.
Book Synopsis The Semantics of Relationships by : R. Green
Download or read book The Semantics of Relationships written by R. Green and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The genesis of this volume was the participation of the editors in an ACMlSIGIR (Association for Computing Machinery/Special Interest Group on Information Retrieval) workshop entitled "Beyond Word Relations" (Hetzler, 1997). This workshop examined a number of relationship types with significance for information retrieval beyond the conventional topic-matching relationship. From this shared participation came the idea for an edited volume on relationships, with chapters to be solicited from researchers and practitioners throughout the world. Ultimately, one volume became two volumes. The first volume, Relationships in the Organization of Knowledge (Bean & Green, 200 I), examines the role of relationships in knowledge organization theory and practice, with emphasis given to thesaural relationships and integration across systems, languages, cultures, and disciplines. This second volume examines relationships in a broader array of contexts. The two volumes should be seen as companions, each informing the other. As with the companion volume, we are especially grateful to the authors who willingly accepted challenges of space and time to produce chapters that summarize extensive bodies of research. The value of the volume clearly resides in the quality of the individual chapters. In naming this volume The Semantics of Relationships: An Interdisciplinary Perspective, we wanted to highlight the fact that relationships are not just empty connectives. Relationships constitute important conceptual units and make significant contributions to meaning.

Book Synopsis Integration of Information Extraction with Machine Learning Techniques for Text Mining by : A. Christy
Download or read book Integration of Information Extraction with Machine Learning Techniques for Text Mining written by A. Christy and published by Vandana Publications. This book was released on with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Text Mining is a convergent field of Data Mining which deals with extracting relevant and useful part of the information from unstructured text documents and storing them in the structured form. The research work on Information Extraction started in 1979, by a Ph.D thesis submitted at Yale University. But, Information Extraction has got its focus only in 1990s by a series of Message Understanding Conferences conducted by US defense group, DARPA. Information Extraction is preferred by researchers because of its ability to extract specific part of the information with its timely delivery to decision makers and end-users. Information Extraction focusses on extracting the entities and facts from technical websites. The technical web pages often exist in the semi-structured form, in which each and every part of the content is stored as a block of information. Existing Supervised and Unsupervised learning algorithms are reviewed and new algorithms are proposed and implemented for extracting facts and entities from technical websites.
