Book Synopsis Thinking, Childhood, and Time by : Walter Omar Kohan
Download or read book Thinking, Childhood, and Time written by Walter Omar Kohan and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2020-10-06 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thinking, Childhood, and Time: Contemporary Perspectives on the Politics of Education is an interdisciplinary exploration of the notion of childhood and its place in a philosophical education. Contributors consider children’s experiences of time, space, embodiment, and thinking. By acknowledging Hannah Arendt’s notion that every child brings a new beginning into the world, they address the question of how educators can be more responsive to the Otherness that childhood offers, while assuming that most educational models follow either a chronological model of child development or view children as human beings that are lacking. The contributors explore childhood as a philosophical concept in children, adults, and even beyond human beings—Childhood as a (forgotten) dimension of the world. Contributors also argue that a pedagogy that does not aim for an “exodus of childhood,” but rather responds to the arrival of a new human being responsibly (dialogically), fosters a deeper appreciation of the newness that children bring in order to sensitize us for our own Childhood as adults as well and allow us to welcome other forms of childhood in the world. As a whole, this book argues that the experience of natality, such as the beginning of life, is not chronologically determined, but rather can occur more than once in a human life and beyond. Scholars of philosophy, education, psychology, and childhood studies will find this book particularly useful.
Book Synopsis The Pedagogies of Cultural Studies by : Andrew Hickey
Download or read book The Pedagogies of Cultural Studies written by Andrew Hickey and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-31 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides an exploration of the manifold ways pedagogy is enacted in cultural studies practice. Pedagogy in the book comes to stand as far more than simply the "art of teaching"; contributors explore how pedagogy defines and shapes their practice as cultural studies scholars. Chapters variously highlight the role of pedagogy in cultural studies practice, including formal, classroom situations where cultural studies is deployed to teach as part of degree or coursework programs, but importantly also as something removed from the formal classroom, as situated within the research act via public engagement or through social activism as a public pedagogy. In so doing, the book chart a course for understanding cultural studies as an active and engaged discipline interested in understanding cultural flows and production as sites of learning and exchange.
Book Synopsis The Evolution of the Primate Foot by : Angel Zeininger
Download or read book The Evolution of the Primate Foot written by Angel Zeininger and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-12-07 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The human foot is a unique and defining characteristic of our anatomy. Most primates have grasping, prehensile feet, whereas the human foot stands out as a powerful non-grasping propulsive lever that is central to our evolution as adept bipedal walkers and runners and defines our lineage. Very few books have compiled and evaluated key research on the primate foot and provided a perspective on what we know and what we still need to know. This book serves as an essential companion to “The Evolution of the Primate Hand” volume, also in the Developments in Primatology series. This book includes chapters written by experts in the field of morphology and mechanics of the primate foot, the role of the foot in different aspects of primate locomotion (including but not limited to human bipedalism), the “hard evidence” of primate foot evolution including fossil foot bones and fossil footprints, and the relevance of our foot’s evolutionary history to modern human foot pathology. This volume addresses three fundamental questions: (1) What makes the human foot so different from that of other primates? (2) How does the anatomy, biomechanics, and ecological context of the foot and foot use differ among primates and why? (3) how did foot anatomy and function change throughout primate and human evolution, and why is this evolutionary history relevant in clinical contexts today? This co-edited volume, which relies on the insights of leading scholars in primate foot anatomy and evolution provides for the first time a comprehensive review and scholarly discussion of the primate foot from multiple perspectives. It is accessible to readers at different levels of inquiry (e.g., undergraduate/graduate students, postdoctoral research, other scholars outside of biological anthropology). This volume provides an all-in‐one resource for research on the comparative and functional morphology and evolution of the primate foot.

Book Synopsis Design Education Across Disciplines by : Miikka J. Lehtonen
Download or read book Design Education Across Disciplines written by Miikka J. Lehtonen and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-31 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores how design thinking can transform higher education, with solutions ranging from single course sessions to whole programs and universities. The authors demonstrate how designing across disciplines is done, with disruptive technologies, ambiguity and challenges as catalysts. Iteratively tested pedagogies, design-driven solutions and creative uses of both tactile and digital worlds are among the approaches discussed. Educators and leaders of higher education institutes as well as designers and managers of companies will benefit from engaging the design ideas in their own work.
