Book Synopsis Classical Fortran by : Michael Kupferschmid
Download or read book Classical Fortran written by Michael Kupferschmid and published by . This book was released on 2017-05-24 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classical FORTRAN: Programming for Engineering and Scientific Applications, Second Edition teaches how to write programs in the Classical dialect of FORTRAN, the original and still most widely recognized language for numerical computing. This edition retains the conversational style of the original, along with its simple, carefully chosen subset language and its focus on floating-point calculations. New to the Second Edition Additional case study on file I/O More about CPU timing on Pentium processors More about the g77 compiler and Linux With numerous updates and revisions throughout, this second edition continues to use case studies and examples to introduce the language elements and design skills needed to write graceful, correct, and efficient programs for real engineering and scientific applications. After reading this book, students will know what statements to use and where as well as why to avoid the others, helping them become expert FORTRAN programmers.
Book Synopsis Structured Fortran 77 for Engineers and Scientists by : Delores M. Etter
Download or read book Structured Fortran 77 for Engineers and Scientists written by Delores M. Etter and published by Wiley. This book was released on 1997-01-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text was designed with three objectives in mind: to introduce engineering and science students to a problem solving technique that they can use in solving engineering problems; to provide a fundamental understanding of computers and to specifically develop a working knowledge of FORTRAN 77; and to motivate and excite students about engineering, and help them understand the types of problems that engineers solve. * Engineering and Science Applications. Over 600 examples and problems representing a wide range of engineering and science applications, related to engineering disciplines ranging from mechanical, chemical, and electrical engineering to cutting-edge fields such as genetic, robotic and environmental engineering. * Five-Step Problem Solving Methodology. The five-step problem solving methodology is consistently used throughout this Edition. The five steps are: * State the problem clearly. * Describe the input and the output. * Work the problem by hand (or with a calculator) for a specific set of data. * Develop a solution that is general in nature. * Test the algorithm with a variety of data sets. * Engineering Case Studies. The application sections form a set of 30 engineering case studies. Each case study includes a detailed development of the problem's solution along with sample data to illustrate testing the algorithm. * Complete FORTRAN 77 Coverage. Complete coverage of FORTRAN 77 makes this book not only suitable for the first-time computer user but also as a valuable reference for the experienced user. In addition, only standard FORTRAN 77 statements and structures are used so all programs and statements are compatible with any FORTRAN 77 compiler. * Fortran 90 Coverage. Fortran 90 is discussed in detailed notes throughout the text and in a special chapter at the end.
Book Synopsis Risk/Benefit Analysis in Water Resources Planning and Management by : Yacov Haimes
Download or read book Risk/Benefit Analysis in Water Resources Planning and Management written by Yacov Haimes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ronald M. North President Universities Council on Water Resources People sense intuitively that the world in which we live is not free of risk. Every decision, every action, even the refusal to either act or decide involves some element of risk. Perhaps, because we accept relatively low levels of risk in our daily activi ties, we tend to minimize the existence of risk and thereby fail to include risk assessment in those decisions and actions which could be improved through a risk assessment process. However, our casual approach to risk assessment seems to stem largely from the diffi culties inherent in measuring risk rather than from any lack of cognizance of the existence of risk. This conclusion is evidenced by the many statements in official documents relating to planning and evaluation which suggest that risk assessments should be con ducted but do not provide the mechanism for such assessments nor do they encourage their consideration in the decision making process. This conference on Risk/Benefit Analysis in Water Resources Planning and Management is notable because it attempts to identify and evaluate the mechanisms available for risk assessment which might be useful in water resources planning and management efforts. These proceedings bring together the thoughts of professional per sons who have struggled with the problems of risk assessment and who have contributed to the refinement of both theoretical and pragmatic solutions for the improvement of risk assessment processes.
