Book excerpt: La dosimétrie des faisceaux de photons utilisés en radiothérapie externe est basée sur des protocoles internationaux de l'Agence Internationale de l'Energie Atomique (AIEA) permettant de déterminer la dose absorbée dans l'eau à partir de la mesure réalisée avec un détecteur dans les grands (TRS-398) et petits champs (TRS-483) de traitement. Cependant, ces derniers présentent les limites suivantes : (i) ils ne prennent pas en compte les nouvelles recommandations sur les quantités dosimétriques dans l'eau adoptées dans le dernier rapport 90 de l'ICRU (ii) les facteurs correctifs de la qualité du faisceau kQ,Q0 et ceux relatifs aux petits champs kfclin,fref ne sont pas tabulés pour les détecteurs récemment commercialisés (iii) ils ne considèrent pas des milieux autres (os, poumon, etc.) que l'eau. L'objectif de cette thèse est de répondre à ces trois problématiques d'une part grâce aux calculs Monte-Carlo réalisés avec le code GATE/Geant4 permettant de simuler le transport du rayonnement dans différents milieux ainsi que dans différents détecteurs et, d'autre part grâce à des mesures expérimentales. i) Une étude multicentrique internationale a été initiée par l'AIEA afin de mettre à jour les facteurs kQ,Q0. La détermination numérique de ces facteurs a été principalement réalisée avec le code Monte-Carlo PENELOPE et EGSnrc par différents groupes de recherche. Nous avons contribué à cette mise à jour en calculant les facteurs kQ,Q0 avec le code Monte-Carlo GATE/Geant4 dans différentes qualités de faisceaux de photons. Malgré toutes les approximations et paramètres pouvant affecter les calculs Monte-Carlo, tels que la modélisation des détecteurs, le type de source et les modèles physiques propres à chaque code, nous avons obtenu un très bon accord (

An Institute lecture series on "Fundamentals of Amorphous Materials and Devices" was held during 1982-83 with distinguished speakers from universities and industry.
