Book Synopsis UNDERSTANDING ORGANISATIONS by : MADHUKAR SHUKLA
Download or read book UNDERSTANDING ORGANISATIONS written by MADHUKAR SHUKLA and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2008-06-03 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organisations play a crucial role in our day-to-day life though most of us are unaware of it. They permeate and pervade almost all aspects of our lives and their significance cannot therefore be overemphasized. This easy-to-read and compact book on Organisational Theory (OT) gives an account of what an organisation is and how it operates. It shows that organisations are not static entities, but are dynamic: capable of growing, changing, failing or transforming themselves. The book begins with a discussion on the perspectives and approaches needed for understanding, designing and changing organisations. It then goes on to give a description of the building blocks and the various influences that determine organisational design. The author rightly emphasizes that the ideal organisation is one that is adaptive to a specific situation. He tells not only what an organisation is, but shows how it functions, for instance, how decisions are taken, how conflicts and power interact in moulding an organisation, how values and norms influence performance, and so on. Finally, the author stresses how organisations change or are transformed or why some do not change, and highlights emerging issues in organisational design. What distinguishes the text is its Indian background. The author skillfully elucidates organisational theory with real-life examples from well-known Indian Organi-sations.Intended as a textbook for the students of Management, this study should also be ideal for practising managers, consultants and teachers.

Book Synopsis Joint Strategic Planning System Insights by : Richard M. Meinhart
Download or read book Joint Strategic Planning System Insights written by Richard M. Meinhart and published by Army War College Press. This book was released on 2013 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Military leaders at many levels have used strategic planning in various ways to position their organizations to respond to the demands of the current situation while simultaneously preparing to meet future challenges. This paper will first describe the Chairman's statutory responsibilities and strategic challenges, because this affects leaders and the focus of the strategic planning system. The paper then briefly examines how the Joint Strategic Planning System (JSPS) changed in five major ways during the time period of 1990 to 2012 before describing in greater detail the key products and processes of the current system. The paper then goes on to summarize the more significant ways each Chairman used this system during the past 2 decades to produce specific planning products, which is part of their formal leadership legacy. During this time the Chairmen were Generals Powell (1989-93), Shalikashvili (1993-97), Shelton (1997-2001), Myers (2001-05), Pace (2005-07), and Admiral Mullen (2007-11). General Dempsey's current strategic planning focus, since he became Chairman in October 2011, is also summarized. This leadership focus and concluding thoughts provide broad insights into how senior leaders have used the strategic planning system to respond to internal and external challenges. These leadership and management insights are related to the importance of strategic vision, planning system and process characteristics, decisionmaking styles, and organizational change.

Download or read book Management and Economic Development written by A.R. Negandhi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ping-pong diplomacy and its aftermath discussion, coupled with the entry of communist China into the United Nations and the subsequent expulsion of Taiwan, will generate considerable political dialogue about the changing balance of power and the fate of the other China. These political discussions will obviously overshadow the true role and function of the existence of Taiwan. Given the time, Taiwan could become a model for the development process for other emerging countries. Taiwan's experience with eco nomic development has real relevance for many countries. For exam ple, in less than two decades Taiwan has achieved the industrial and economic growth that should well make it the envy of nearly all other developing nations. Its per capita income is exceeded only by Japan among the countries of the Far East. Yet, despite vigorous economic and industrial growth, obvious breakdowns in this economic progress come into view. The lack of managerial input threatens to become a real bottleneck. The study reported in this volume examines the feasibility and utility of transferring advanced management know-how and practices into the industrial enterprises in Taiwan in order to generate further economic and industrial growth. The study itself concerns management practices and effectiveness of American subsidiaries, Japanese sub sidiaries, and comparable local firms in Taiwan.
Book Synopsis One-armed Economist by : Murray Weidenbaum
Download or read book One-armed Economist written by Murray Weidenbaum and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-28 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One-Armed Economist represents a personal, if eclectic, approach to public policy. Weidenbaum avoids doctrinaire positions, be they Keynesian or monetarist or supply side or libertarian. This distillation of Weidenbaum's wide range of writings on public policy issues over the last four decades draws on his practical experience in government and business as well as his academic research over that extended period. The volume covers six major clusters of policy issues: economic policy, government programs, business decision-making, government regulation, the defense sector, and the international economy. There are chapters on how to achieve a cleaner environment, how to fundamentally overhaul the tax and health care systems, and a defense of Reaganomics. The work examines how public sector activities impact the performance of the national economy. Its coverage includes the role of government as a buyer, a seller, a provider of credit, and a source of subsidy and support. Drawing heavily on his experience as economist for a major military contractor, Weidenbaum shows that the defense industry is the most heavily regulated sector of the American economy and discusses ways to modernize the arcane and wasteful process of procuring weapon systems. He also draws on his work on the hidden costs of regulation on the consumer, showing how to improve the regulatory process so as to achieve national objectives while minimizing the burdens of compliance. The last section is devoted to the international economy, with chapters on the role of the overseas enterprises. One-Armed Economist is a lucid analysis of major public policy issues of our time. As such it will be of special interest to organizations involved in public policy, think tanks, and government policymaking groups, as well as readers interested in fresh perspectives on a broad range of policy issues.
