Book excerpt: For years, the Jesuit labored over a small square of greenish copper hidden in the Dead Sea Scrolls. What had he found? The message he translated would make the tumultuous history of the Middle East look like a street fight in Hell's Kitchen. This copper square was no less than a one-way ticket through the pass of Megiddo, the place of Armageddon. FOREVER INDEED spans the centuries from the time of the Roman conquest of Judea in the First Century CE to the present. It joins lovers separated by millennia sharing common loves, common thoughts, and common emotions. Hearts and souls race across thousands of years to find each other in a love story that is forever, indeed.

What if He was always online and would always answer you? Would you start typing right now? Someone once said that the single most important thing about you is your thoughts on God. Give that a minute to sink in. Why would that be? Because all your thoughts about humanity, love, suffering, and the like are shaped primarily by whether or not you think there is any meaning to it all, by whether or not you are on your own, and by whether or not God even cares about it all. Knowing who God is will give you answers to life’s big questions that you might not have even known you needed. The NET, TEXT Bible is like a conversation between you, a friend teaching you about the faith, and the God of the Universe. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Michael Fane arrives in the thin red house in Carlington Road to his new family of Nurse, Cook, Annie the housemaid, his younger sister Stella, and the occasional presence of Mother. From here, the novel follows the next twenty years of his life as he tries to find his place in the upper echelons of Edwardian society, through prep school, studies at Oxford, and his emergence into the wide world. The setting is rich in period detail, and the characters portrayed are vivid and more nuanced in their actions and stories than first impressions imply. Sinister Street was an immediate critical success on publication, although not without some worry for its openness to discuss less salubrious scenes, and it was a favorite of George Orwell and John Betjeman. Compton Mackenzie had attended both St. James’ school and St. Mary’s College at Oxford and the novel is at least partly autobiographical, but for the same measure was praised as an accurate portrayal of that experience; Max Beerbohm said “There is no book on Oxford like it. It gives you the actual Oxford experience.” Although originally published in two volumes (in 1913 and 1914) for commercial reasons, the two form a single novel and have been brought back together again for this edition. This book is part of the Standard Ebooks project, which produces free public domain ebooks.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foreword by Gabriel Fackre Will God one day save all people through Christ s atoning work? That is the question at the heart of the debate in this volume — a debate sure to challenge readers, whatever their current perspective. Featuring evangelical writers of exceptional insight and sensitivity, Universal Salvation? offers a conversation worth everyone s attention. The volume opens with a rigorous three-part defense of Christian universalism by philosopher Thomas Talbott, who argues that Scripture teaches the ultimate salvation of all people, including those in hell. Gabriel Fackre in his foreword calls Talbott s work the most thoughtfully wrought argument for universalism to date from within the contemporary evangelical community. The rest of the book gathers incisive responses to Talbott by Christian scholars from different disciplines, who evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of Talbott s arguments, take his thought in new directions, or explain why they think he is mistaken. Talbott then responds to his critics. The aim of this volume is not to persuade people that universalism is true but to open up a fairer debate on a controversial subject of continuing importance to theologians and nontheologians alike. By exploring universal salvation from biblical, philosophical, theological, and historical perspectives, the book helps readers think through the issues more carefully than has been possible with resources previously available.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of poetry is a story of my life and of changes that have contributed toward what I am today. The poetry ranges from love poems, spiritual aspirations, gothic and abstract pieces, and narratives. It is a collection of how an autistic sees the world, as if looking out the window at the world yet never able to join. This book contains controversial subjects and profanity, as censorship of language goes against free expression. This book contains a variety of poems and short stories that has influenced my life as well as shows the particular torment a person living with PSTD has. I wanted to show the world what looking at the world through my lenses is like, and I am sure there are countless others who prefer a realistic approach as opposed to ignoring the hardships this world thrusts on people. A unique perspective of life. I also hope to make aware to people the dangers of religion and how religion can be controlling. There is a section of poetry from my Christian days that I have kept for the sake of art. These are from experiences in living in fear of Christian brimstone preaching. A lot of that fear underlies my earlier work as well as a deep, relenting anger at the oppressor that I feared, which was religion. Regardless, I would love to discuss the role of religion in peoples lives and determine how we can live in a society that practices spirituality as opposed to strict rules that are open to interpretation. Traditions are something I have come to hate, a disussion of which can be found in the latter portion of the book. Finally, it is my hope that my creative writing might inspire further creativity and expression of personal experience. I wish to share my art and have an intellectual experience that opens a persons mind to a bigger universe than they have perceived.

But we sometimes differ on how to relate the messages of the Old and New Testaments. Without a basic understanding of this crucial matter, it is difficult to know how to use the Testaments to formulate either doctrine or practice. For example: Was Israel the OT Church—are OT promises to God's national people fulfilled in the church today? Or, is Mosaic Law binding on believers now—are twentieth-century Christians to obey the Ten Commandments, including sabbath observance? In this book, thirteen noted evangelical theologians discuss, fairly but clearly, the continuity/discontinuity debate in regard to six basic categories: theological systems, hermeneutics, salvation, the Law of God, the people of God, and kingdom promises. Covering much more than the differences between Covenant Theology and Dispensationalism, this work of distinguished evangelical scholarship will fuel much profitable study and discussion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When theology begins with God’s eternal will and knowledge, determinism results. In God in Eternity and Time, eminent scholar Robert Picirilli argues that we should look first to God’s creation and the incarnation—to the created order where God has chosen to act and reveal himself. As God’s decrees and foreknowledge in eternity are then read in light of his acts within time, his interactions with human beings on the personal level clearly reveal themselves. God in Eternity and Time is divided into two sections. The first part explores how God speaks and acts in creation. The second carefully examines foreknowledge and “middle knowledge” to demonstrate the fallacy of logical arguments against freedom based on foreknowledge. Based on these two sections, the reader will discover Picirilli’s fresh argument for libertarian human freedom.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blood-Covenant spans the globe in such traditions as the Native American Blood-Brother bond. No mere contract variation, Covenant is a powerful relationship of a deep, unbreakable Love; yet when God does break it once, He pays the consequences He designed it to have. Throughout the 'Old' Covenant, certain elements of Covenant are declared, yet are not 'real' - until the 'New' Covenant comes, which is not a 'what' but a 'Who.' Everything changes when God literally comes to have Blood Himself, the result of which profoundly affects the 'Old' Covenant. This relationship is eternal and does not become obsolete on the Last Day. If the Bible is written within a Covenant environment, what does the modern Western reader miss that the ancient hearer would naturally recognize? Living in a culture that only has vestiges of Covenant, there is no easy or perfect answer. But the question can be very stimulating.

Book excerpt: The book is about the Alpha and Omega God. It is my testimony in regard to the existence and the will of the Deity creator for the entire creation activities. I started to write about this supernatural and omnipotent God from the beginning, which is unknown time. I then proceeded in writing all the way to the time of eternity. In the book, I have talked and tried to prove the creatorship and rulership situation or condition of the Trinity God. I have done this to make peoples of this world believe in existence of the almighty and the ubiquitous God who caused every thing seen and unseen to emerge and exist as they are found now.

Book excerpt: Only a deathbed promise to her dying father could force Christina Tretton to travel to Tretteign Grange, the 'Dark House', and meet her estranged family for the first time. Having to fast-talk her way out of an encounter with smugglers on the way is only the beginning. Waiting for her is flighty aunt Verity, her two very different cousins – the stoic Ross and fawning Richard – and her formidable grandfather, who changes his Will every few days. Taking the neglectful servants in hand, Christina is soon managing the house, proving herself invaluable in her grandfather's eyes. This backfires when he decides he wants her as his heir, and only on the condition that she marries Ross or Richard. Outraged, she swears she will marry neither, but her cousins have different ideas. Should she marry the cousin she is drawn to, even if he appears to have no true feelings for her? Hanging over them is the constant threat of invasion, as Dark House looks over the sea to France, and Napoleon. When cousin Ross disappears, it is up to Christina to stand in his stead and take on the running of the estate - amongst some of his more disreputable duties. For as soldiers work to fortify the coast, Christina finds herself in the twisted intrigues of smugglers and spies. Watch the Wall, My Darling first published in 1966, is another great historical romance from the master of the genre – Jane Aiken Hodge.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a unique comparative study of ubuntu, a dominant ethical theory in African philosophy, and western monotheism. It is the first book to bring ubuntu to bear on the axiology of theism debate in contemporary analytic philosophy of religion. A large motivating force behind this book is to explore the extent to which there is intersubjective ethical agreement and disagreement between ubuntu and Western worldviews like monotheism and naturalism. First, the author assesses the various arguments for anti-theism and pro-theism on the assumption that ubuntu is true. Ubuntu’s communitarian focus might be so different from the Western tradition that it completely changes how we evaluate theism and atheism. Second, the author assesses the advantages and disadvantages of the truth of ubuntu for the world. Third and finally, he assesses the axiological status of faith for both monotheism and ubuntu. Ubuntu and Western Monotheism will be of interest to scholars and advanced students specializing in philosophy of religion, African religion and philosophy, and religious ethics.
