Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • More than 1 million copies in print! • The authors of No-Drama Discipline and The Yes Brain explain the new science of how a child’s brain is wired and how it matures in this pioneering, practical book. “Simple, smart, and effective solutions to your child’s struggles.”—Harvey Karp, M.D. In this pioneering, practical book, Daniel J. Siegel, neuropsychiatrist and author of the bestselling Mindsight, and parenting expert Tina Payne Bryson offer a revolutionary approach to child rearing with twelve key strategies that foster healthy brain development, leading to calmer, happier children. The authors explain—and make accessible—the new science of how a child’s brain is wired and how it matures. The “upstairs brain,” which makes decisions and balances emotions, is under construction until the mid-twenties. And especially in young children, the right brain and its emotions tend to rule over the logic of the left brain. No wonder kids throw tantrums, fight, or sulk in silence. By applying these discoveries to everyday parenting, you can turn any outburst, argument, or fear into a chance to integrate your child’s brain and foster vital growth. Complete with age-appropriate strategies for dealing with day-to-day struggles and illustrations that will help you explain these concepts to your child, The Whole-Brain Child shows you how to cultivate healthy emotional and intellectual development so that your children can lead balanced, meaningful, and connected lives. “[A] useful child-rearing resource for the entire family . . . The authors include a fair amount of brain science, but they present it for both adult and child audiences.”—Kirkus Reviews “Strategies for getting a youngster to chill out [with] compassion.”—The Washington Post “This erudite, tender, and funny book is filled with fresh ideas based on the latest neuroscience research. I urge all parents who want kind, happy, and emotionally healthy kids to read The Whole-Brain Child. This is my new baby gift.”—Mary Pipher, Ph.D., author of Reviving Ophelia and The Shelter of Each Other “Gives parents and teachers ideas to get all parts of a healthy child’s brain working together.”—Parent to Parent

Written by Montessori educator Simone Davies, this book shows you how to bring the educational values of a Montessori classroom into your home—while turning the whole idea of the “terrible twos” on its head. Here is how to set up Montessori-friendly spaces in your home. Principles for fostering curiosity in your child—and in yourself. Specific Montessori skills—the winter coat flip; getting your toddler to pour his or her own water and clean up whatever spills might occur. And it goes much deeper, showing how a parent can really be present, be the child’s guide, and handle tantrums and problematic behavior without resorting to bribes, threats, or punishment and truly celebrate every stage. It’s also that rare parenting book that’s beautiful to look at, with a bright, airy design and simple color illustrations and photographs.

Home Affairs Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2014 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is a follow-up to the Committee's second report of session 2013-14. That report revealed results of an inquiry into children being treated in an appalling way not just by their abusers but, because of catastrophic failures by the very agencies that society has appointed to protect them. There is no mechanism at all to suspend or remove a Police and Crime Commissioner for behaviour which falls short of criminal. The current report includes a draft Bill which suggests mechanisms for removing PCCs from their post. It is vital that children's services are dramatically improved to prevent a similar situation from happening again. It was shocking that evidence of child sexual exploitation in Rotherham was ignored by both Rotherham Council and South Yorkshire Police. A number of individuals attempted to bring these crimes to light, only to face obstacles from the Council and Police which in some cases questioned their credibility and the veracity of their claims. If the Council and Police had taken these warnings seriously, the abusers could have been brought to justice more quickly and some of the later victims could have been spared their ordeal. The proliferation of revelations about files which can no longer be located gives rise to public suspicion of a deliberate cover-up. The only way to address these concerns is with a full, transparent and urgent investigation

Book excerpt: Parenting Inspired, Follow The Path, Where The Child Loves To Grow is a well-defined book for parents, grandparents, and people working with children in any capacity. From the beginning, it brings back memories of my childhood and reminds me how instrumental they are in moulding and shaping my adult life. Early Independence Starts at Home is one of the sections that grabbed me as I read this book. I realised the massive truth in it, as I reminisced my coaching practice and the clients whom I had served. So many dependent children have already grown into dependent adults, acting and performing inefficiently, yet remaining hesitant to examine their childhood to get to the root of the issues. The book provides a much needed critical look at childhood and parenthood, in a modernised style. Many modern readers love to know the writers personal experiences for further knowledge whilst completing some activities to feel connected. Hanifa has risen to the challenge and captured this wisdom skillfully and in an unpretentious style. Her book provides the valuable and absorbing window to reflect and engage the power of communication through listening and speaking. Teresa L. Holmes, Founder & Executive Director, Bounce Back DNA Movement Discover how to follow the child and live up to your parenting potentials. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a growing need for research within practice settings. Increasing competition for funding requires organizations to demonstrate that the funding they are seeking is going towards effective programming. Additionally, the evidence-based practice movement is generally pushing organizations towards research activities, both as producers and consumers. There have been many books written about research methodology and data analysis in the helping professions, and many books have been written about using R to analyze and present data; however, this book specifically addresses using R to evaluate programs in organizational settings. This book is divided into three sections. The first section addresses background information that is helpful in conducting practice-based research. The second section of the book provides necessary background to begin working with R. Topics include how to download R and RStudio, navigation, R packages, basic R functions, and importing data. This section also introduces The Clinical Record, a freely available database program to help organizations record and track client information. The remainder of the book uses case studies to illustrate how to use R to conduct program evaluations. Techniques include data description and visualization, bivariate analysis, simple and multiple regression, and logistic regression. The final chapter illustrates a comprehensive summary of the skills demonstrated throughout the book using The Clinical Record as a data repository.

Your child’s teacher may have recommended they be assessed by an educational psychologist, but what does this entail? Written by a practising educational psychologist with 25 years’ experience in the United States and Ireland, Does My Child Need Help? clearly explains the process and positive impact of an educational assessment, guiding the reader step-by-step through the process of: Initial contact with the psychologistSubjective assessment – behaviour observations, background information, existing reports, etc. Objective assessment – cognitive tests, rating scales and other measuresDiagnosisThe components of the psychologist’s reportRecommendations and interventions Does My Child Need Help? will aid parents in understanding the entire process, answering common questions such as ‘What happens?’, ‘What do I say to my child?’ and ‘What do the results mean for my child’s education?’ through case studies, example reports, and testimonials from parents, resource teachers and special needs coordinators. Using graphs to visually illustrate how different problems are diagnosed, the author shares his expert advice with the reader, covering the diagnosis and management of frequently occurring problems such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, AD/HD, autistic spectrum disorders and emotional/behavioural difficulties. While aimed primarily at parents, Does My Child Need Help? will also prove useful to teachers, special needs assistants, administrators, students, healthcare professionals and psychologists.
