Book excerpt: The book presents recent applications and developments in the field of control of industrial systems, covering a wide range of modeling and feedback control using various robust approaches such as fuzzy systems, sliding mode control, and H-infinity. This book provides insights into theory, applications, and perspectives relevant to the field of robotic systems, exoskeletons, power systems, photovoltaic systems, etc., as well as general methodologies and paradigms around them. Each chapter provides an enriched understanding of a research topic along with a balanced treatment of the relevant theories, methods, or applications. It reports on the latest advances in the field. This book is a good reference for graduate students, researchers, educators, engineers, and scientists and contains a total of 15 chapters divided into five parts as follows. The first part of this book focuses on the application of fuzzy control to robotic systems and consists of three chapters. The second part of this book proposes the control of lower and upper limb exoskeletons and includes two chapters. The third part is dedicated to the control of power systems and comprises three chapters. The fourth part deals with various approaches to the modeling and control of industrial processes and comprises four chapters. The fifth and final part describes observers and fault-tolerant control systems and comprises five chapters.

Book excerpt: They also sought to tame political and religious passions and to bring order and stability to Restoration society, a goal which was shared by many members of the landed classes. This book uses their story to illuminate the profound cultural changes which took place after 1660. It also brings to life Henry Somerset (1629-1700) and Mary Capel Somerset (1630-1715), two complex and unique individuals."--BOOK JACKET.

Book Synopsis Adaptive Agents and Multi-Agent Systems III. Adaptation and Multi-Agent Learning by : Karl Tuyls

This book was released on 2008-02-09 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains selected and revised papers of the European Symposium on Adaptive and Learning Agents and Multi-Agent Systems (ALAMAS), editions 2005, 2006 and 2007, held in Paris, Brussels and Maastricht. The goal of the ALAMAS symposia, and this associated book, is to increase awareness and interest in adaptation and learning for single agents and mul- agent systems, and encourage collaboration between machine learning experts, softwareengineeringexperts, mathematicians, biologistsandphysicists, andgive a representative overviewof current state of a?airs in this area. It is an inclusive forum where researchers can present recent work and discuss their newest ideas for a ?rst time with their peers. Thesymposiaseriesfocusesonallaspectsofadaptiveandlearningagentsand multi-agent systems, with a particular emphasis on how to modify established learning techniques and/or create new learning paradigms to address the many challenges presented by complex real-world problems. These symposia were a great success and provided a forum for the pres- tation of new ideas and results bearing on the conception of adaptation and learning for single agents and multi-agent systems. Over these three editions we received 51 submissions, of which 17 were carefully selected, including one invited paper of this year’s invited speaker Simon Parsons. This is a very c- petitive acceptance rate of approximately 31%, which, together with two review cycles, has led to a high-quality LNAI volume. We hope that our readers will be inspired by the papers included in this volume.

Book Synopsis Genetic Disorders Among Arab Populations by : Ahmad S. Teebi
Download or read book Genetic Disorders Among Arab Populations written by Ahmad S. Teebi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-07-30 with total page 776 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arab populations have their “own” genetic disorders, both universal and particular. Genetic diversity within these source populations, along with the fact that the rates of inbreeding are often high and family sizes are often large, constitute conditions that facilitate the emergence and detection of phenotypes explained notably by autosomal recessive inheritance; in which case, the use of homozygosity gene mapping can facilitate the discovery of the corresponding genes. The present book includes 5 parts dealing with various aspects that relate to the genetic structure of Arabs and minorities within the Arab world as well as genetic disorders prevalent in this part of the world. It includes updated reviews of the genetic disorders in various Arab countries and geographic regions. The focus is primarily, but not exclusively, on the group of single-gene disorders with particular emphasis on autosomal recessive conditions. It further includes epidemiological and clinical data as well as inheritance patterns, mutation and polymorphism data, and available haplotype analysis data. The ethnic and genetic diversity of the Arab populations is discussed as well as aspects of genetic counseling practice in this region together with a proposal for an ethical framework for genetic research and prevention of genetic disorders. The target audience of this book includes human and medical geneticists, genetic counselors, researchers, medical specialists dealing with Arab patients or practicing in Arab countries, medical and genetic counseling students, and nurses.
