Download or read book Now Let Me Fly written by Ronald Wimberly and published by First Second. This book was released on 2023-01-03 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From author Ronald Wimberly, creator of the viral comic Lighten Up, comes a soaring graphic biography that casts new light on the first African-American fighter pilot. On the eve of World War I, Eugene Bullard was a refugee of the Jim Crow South who was determined to find a place where a Black man would be treated as a fellow human being. His search took him from rural Georgia to the streets of Paris, from the vaudeville stage to the boxing ring, and finally, from the muddy trenches to the open skies. In 1914, Bullard joined the fight to defend France—and made history as the world’s first African American fighter pilot. In this candid but sensitive portrait of Bullard, author Ronald Wimberly balances the personal and the historical to interrogate concepts of cynicism, idealism, fear, glory, and the pervasiveness of anti-Black racism.

In this landmark book, Alvin Townley takes readers on an adventure around the world and across generations as he goes behind the scenes of naval aviation. From the skies over the Arabian Sea to the jungles of Southeast Asia to carriers patrolling the vast Pacific, he uncovers incredible stories of service members who survived weeks adrift at sea, made midnight rescues in deadly storms, crash-landed behind enemy lines, and found themselves in situations where their exceptional training and focus were the only things standing between life and death. Filled with inspiring personal accounts of courage, camaraderie, and sheer perseverance, Fly Navy pays tribute to the extraordinary individuals who have built naval aviation into the revered force it is today—and will remain tomorrow.
Download or read book The illusion written by Mony de Panja and published by Mony de Panja. This book was released on 2021-03-29 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two college-goers and two teens plan a trek along a sanctuary. On way to the trek, the leader witnesses goons snatching a money bag from an old man. He challenges the goons and is abducted. He runs away from the captivity. Goons learn about their trekking plan, separate them and chase them individually into the forest. While the actions happen on earth, all are sucked into a new world in which they can fly but feel no hunger, thirst or sleep. This world's inhabitants join the two groups, and it leads to a fight to the finish. In yet another realm, the goings-on appear as videos, and solutions are offered through rhymes and riddles. The teens feel, it is an illusion that has occurred due to mix-up of a video game with magic. A mix-up it is, and the cause is revealed at the end. But that leads to more questions.
Download or read book Born to Fly written by Sara Evans and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2024-07-02 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Country music star Sara Evans’s “humble but incredible life story” (Publishers Weekly) about her rise to stardom, her roundabout path to love, and how her faith brings daily joy no matter the circumstances is an inspiring and “warm, approachable read” (Booklist). Sara Evans—a Billboard, ACM, and CMA Award–winning country music star who’s been named one of People’s “50 Most Beautiful People” and competed on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars—has been inspiring fans throughout her successful music career. In this powerful, personal, and often humorous book, Sara opens up and shares stories from her professional and personal life, describing what it’s like living in the spotlight and how her faith keeps her strong. She writes about overcoming life’s most challenging experiences, from a childhood accident that nearly took her life, to the loss she experienced when her parents divorced, and from her own painful and very public divorce, to finding incredible love when she least expected it with former pro-quarterback-turned-sportscaster Jay Barker. Now, after over a decade of marriage, Sara and Jay’s blended family of nine is thriving, filling her life with focus and meaning. As she weaves the narrative of her life, Sara candidly reveals the things that are most important to her and her family now, her favorite tips about staying true to herself and her faith, knowing when to ask for help, abandoning perfectionism, and the importance of a strong support group of friends and family. “She was ‘born to fly’ and you will fly too as you read each page” (Joe Galante, former president of RCA Records).
Book Synopsis Indestructibles Flutter! Fly! by : Amy Pixton
Download or read book Indestructibles Flutter! Fly! written by Amy Pixton and published by Workman Publishing. This book was released on 2009-12-16 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Announcing a brand new idea in publishing books for babies: the completely durable, completely safe Indestructibles. Published on the same paper-like material used in shipping envelopes, Indestructibles are 100% baby-proof: chew-proof, drool-proof, and rip-proof. That's because Indestructibles not only will not tear or turn gummy with teething, but they are also completely washable. Indestructibles are also energetic, beautiful, and created just for baby. The printing material reproduces color artwork with uncommon depth, and with no residual inkiness; the artwork, paintings by Kaaren Pixton and reminiscent of Eric Carle, is happy, each page a simple, colorful image of an animal or bird or insect against a rich, textured background. The effect is 3D-like and completely visual. There are no words, making each perfect for parents and babies to look at together, with mom or dad telling the story. Three titles launch the series: Creep! Crawl! about animals that crawl, Flutter! Fly! about animals that fly, and Wiggle! March! about farm animals—books babies can really sink their teeth into.

Download or read book Voices, Places written by David Mason and published by Paul Dry Books. This book was released on 2018-05-24 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Mason reveals a glorious passion for literature, as well as an almost Whitmanesque openness to the ideas and emotions that inspire creative acts at all levels."―Library Journal (starred review) "An illuminating literary cartography with many fascinating ports of call.”―Kirkus Reviews "Mason expertly weaves the stories of great writers and places both ancient and new together into an imaginative literary odyssey."―Publishers Weekly “How are voices like places? They move through us as we move through them.” Celebrated poet David Mason explores surprising connections in geography and time, considering writers who traveled, who emigrated or were exiled, and who often shaped the literature of their homelands. He writes of seasoned travelers (Patrick Leigh Fermor, Bruce Chatwin, Joseph Conrad, Herodotus himself), and writers as far flung as Omar Khayyam, Jamal al-Din al-Afghani, James Joyce, and Les Murray. In the end, he turns to his own native region, the American West, with Wallace Stegner, Edward Abbey, Robinson Jeffers, Belle Turnbull, and Thomas McGrath. These essays are about familiarity and estrangement, the pleasure and knowledge readers can gain by engaging with writers’ lives, their travels, their trials, and the homes they make for themselves.
