Download or read book Flutter Investigation at Low Speed of a 40 Degree Sweptback Wing with Pylon-mounted Stores, Tested as a Semispan-cantilever Wing and as a Full-span Wing on a Towed Airplane Model written by Albert P. Martina and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wind-tunnel flutter investigations at Mach numbers up to 0.30 have been conducted on a 40 degree sweptback wing having pylon-mounted stores located at 73.5 percent of the semispan. The investigations were conducted on a semispan-cantilever wing with root fixed and with the full-span wing mounted on an autopilot-controlled model of a fighter-type airplane flown on the end of a towline. The store loadings were varied from 55 to 88 percent of the wing-panel weight, and the store pitch inertias were varied from 66 to 181 percent of the wing-panel pitch inertia. Most of the data were obtained with the store centers of gravity located at 15 percent of the local wing chord.

Book Synopsis A Modern Course in Aeroelasticity by : E.H. Dowell
Download or read book A Modern Course in Aeroelasticity written by E.H. Dowell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aeroelasticity is the study of flexible structures situated in a flowing fluid. Its modern origins are in the field of aerospace engineering, but it has now expanded to include phenomena arising in other fields such as bioengineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering and nuclear engineering. The present volume is a teaching text for a first, and possibly second, course in aeroelasticity. It will also be useful as a reference source on the fundamentals of the subject for practitioners. In this third edition, several chapters have been revised and three new chapters added. The latter include a brief introduction to `Experimental Aeroelasticity', an overview of a frontier of research `Nonlinear Aeroelasticity', and the first connected, authoritative account of `Aeroelastic Control' in book form. The authors are drawn from a range of fields including aerospace engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, rotorcraft and turbomachinery. Each author is a leading expert in the subject of his chapter and has many years of experience in consulting, research and teaching.

Book Synopsis Aircraft and Ground Vehicle Winter Runway Friction Assessment by : Thomas J. Yager
Download or read book Aircraft and Ground Vehicle Winter Runway Friction Assessment written by Thomas J. Yager and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some background information is given together with the scope and objectives of a 5-year, Joint Winter Runway Friction Measurement Program between the National Aeronautics & Space Adminstration (NASA), Transport Canada (TC), and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The primary objective of this effort is to perform instrumental aircraft and ground vehicle tests aimed at identifying a common number that all the different ground vehicle devices would report. This number, denoted the International Runway Friction Index (IRFI), will be related to all types of aircraft stopping performance. The range of test equipment, the test sites, test results and accomplishments, the extent of the substantial friction database compiled, and future test plans will be described. Several related studies have also been implemented including the effects of contaminant type on aircraft impingement drag, and the effectiveness of various runway and aircraft de-icing chemical types, and application rates.
