Book Synopsis Studying Cyanobacteria by Means of Fluorescence Methods by : Natalia Yu Grigoryeva
Download or read book Studying Cyanobacteria by Means of Fluorescence Methods written by Natalia Yu Grigoryeva and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Self-fluorescence is a powerful tool for investigation of living photosynthetic microorganisms. Since the physiological state of such microorganisms is closely related to the operation and activity of photosynthetic system; thus, any variations in spectroscopic properties of their self-fluorescence indicate the changes in their physiological state. Cyanobacteria (or blue green alga) are one of the most widespread photosynthetic organisms in nature, and the ecological aspect in their investigation is quite valuable. On the other hand, thousands of strains belonging to different cyanobacterial species are cultivated in biolaboratories all over the world for different biotechnological applications such as biofuel cells, food production, pharmaceuticals, and fertilizers. Thus, the novel noninvasive methods of their investigation are quite important for on-line monitoring of cyanobacterial cultures. In this chapter, several fluorescence techniques are presented for investigation of living cyanobacterial cells and cultures.

Book Synopsis Fluorescence Techniques in Cell Biology by : Andreas A. Thaer
Download or read book Fluorescence Techniques in Cell Biology written by Andreas A. Thaer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: .For there to be progress in science, there must first be communication between experts of different disciplines. This is particularly true of modern biology which is becoming more and more of an interdisciplinary field. The present situation in cell biology clearly reflects this devel opment and demonstrates that the application of physical techniques was necessary before this field of biological research could be developed on an objective and quantitative basis. The utilization of optical phenomena as measuring parameters at the microscopic level has provided the basis for the development of quantitative cytochemistry. This rapidly growing extension of conventional cytochemistry and histochemistry is based on the visual oberservation of qualitative chemical criteria in correlation with the microscopically resolved structure of cells and tissues. Furthermore, the introduction into cytochemistry of such optical measuring techniques as ab sorption photometry, interferometry, and fluorometry, as well as the measurement of optical anisotropy, diffrac:tion and scattered light, has provided the methodological bridge for the ex change of knowledge between cell biology on the one hand and biochemistry, or molecular biology, on the other.
