Book Synopsis The Kinematics of Mixing by : J. M. Ottino
Download or read book The Kinematics of Mixing written by J. M. Ottino and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1989 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In spite of its universality, mixing is poorly understood and generally speaking, mixing problems are attacked on a case-by-case basis. This is the first book to present a unified treatment of the mixing of fluids from a kinematical viewpoint. The author's aim is to provide a conceptually clear basis from which to launch analysis and to facilitate an understanding of the numerous mixing problems encountered in nature and technology. After presenting the necessary background in kinematics and fluid dynamics, Professor Ottino considers various examples of dealing with necessary background in dynamical systems and chaos. The book assumes little previous knowledge of fluid dynamics and dynamical systems and can be used as a textbook by final-year undergraduates, graduate students and researchers in applied mathematics, engineering science, geophysics and physics who have an interest in fluid dynamics, continuum mechanics and dynamical systems. It is profusely illustrated in colour, with many line diagrams and half-tones. Systems which illustrate the most important concepts, many exercises and examples are included.

Download or read book Nonlinear Hyperbolic Problems: Theoretical, Applied, and Computational Aspects written by Andrea Donato and published by Notes on Numerical Fluid Mechanics and Multidisciplinary Design. This book was released on 1993 with total page 630 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains original papers presented at the Fourth International Conference on Hyperbolic Problems which was held on April 3-8, 1992 in Taormina (Sicily), Italy. The aim of the Conferences in this cycle is to bring together scientists with interest in theo retical, applied and computational aspects of hyperbolic partial differential equations. The contributions, well balanced among these three aspects, deal with: mathematical theory of wave propagation, kinetic theory, existence, uniqueness and stabil ity of solutions, mathematical modeling of physical phenomena, stability and convergence of numerical schemes, multidimensional computational applications, etc. The papers are printed in the authors' alphabetic order following the idea both of mixing together topics of interest to different areas and of considering either theoretical results connected with applied problems or new applications with an essential mathemat ical approach. The Proceedings from the previous Conferences held in St. Etienne (1986), Aachen (1988) and Uppsala (1990) appeared respectively as: * Lecture Notes in Mathematics, 1270, P. Carasso, P. A. Raviart & D. Serre (Eds.), Springer-Verlag (1987) * Notes on Numerical Fluid Mechanics, 24, J. Ballmann & R. Jeltsch (Eds.), Vieweg (1989 ) * Third International Conference on Hyperbolic Problems, B. Book Synopsis Chemical Engineering for the Food Industry by : D. Leo Pyle
Download or read book Chemical Engineering for the Food Industry written by D. Leo Pyle and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Industrial food processing involves the production of added value foods on a large scale; these foods are made by mixing and processing different ingredients in a prescribed way. The food industry, historically, has not designed its processes in an engineering sense, i.e. by understanding the physical and chemical principles which govern the operation of the plant and then using those principles to develop a process. Rather, processes have been 'designed' by purchasing equipment from a range of suppliers and then connecting that equipment together to form a complete process. When the process being run has essentially been scaled up from the kitchen then this may not matter. However, there are limits to the approach. • As the industry becomes more sophisticated, and economies of scale are exploited, then the size of plant reaches a scale where systematic design techniques are needed. • The range of processes and products made by the food industry has increased to include foods which have no kitchen counterpart, such as low-fat spreads. • It is vital to ensure the quality and safety of the product. • Plant must be flexible and able to cope with the need to make a variety of products from a range of ingredients. This is especially important as markets evolve with time. • The traditional design process cannot readily handle multi-product and multi-stream operations. • Processes must be energetically efficient and meet modern environmen tal standards.

Book Synopsis Processing of Solid–Liquid Suspensions by : P. Ayazi Shamlou
Download or read book Processing of Solid–Liquid Suspensions written by P. Ayazi Shamlou and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-08-10 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Processing of Solid-Liquid Suspensions is a collection of articles from several industrialists and academicians who are active in fundamental and applied research relating to handling and processing of particles in liquids. This collection of papers deals with the processes of interaction of particles with each other, with the surrounding liquid and process equipment, whereby knowledge of the mechanism of these interactions can be a sound basis for improving the design of the process equipment and create an optimum environment for the formation and processing of the particulate. The above notion is explained through analysis of the role of turbulent aggregation and breakup of particles in the formation of many solid products from aqueous solutions. This book also analyzes particle size and particulate crystals, whether as final products or as intermediates during processing. In the purification of proteins, two essential units of operation are used; precipitation and solid-liquid separation are analyzed, where theoretical considerations are reviewed. This text also discusses the application of model suspensions in the design of aerobic fermenters in practical industrial uses. High concentration of suspension preparations and solid suspension in liquid flourized beds or in stirred vessels are explained in more detail as to how these affect certain industries. This selection finally presents the progress made in developing design and methods needed by industry. Researchers, chemists, and scientists in industry, as well as advanced students with interests in formation and processing of stable suspensions and in advanced process engineering courses will find this textbook a valuable aid.
