Book excerpt: Aerodynamics and hydrodynamics are still the main domains that make greater use of flow visualization and classical optical techniques such as schlieren and interferometry than of more recent techniques such as holography speckle, laser light sheets, laser-induced tracers and laser-induced fluorescence. A number of studies are now under way on turbulent and vortex flows, within boundary layers or wakes, in the mixing layer of two flows. Other studies concern jets, two-phase flows and air-water interface. To review and discuss developments in flow visualization, four international symposia have been held. Following Tokyo, Bochum and Ann Arbor, the Fourth International Symposium on Flow Visualization (ISFV 4) was held in Paris in August 1986.
Book Synopsis Flow Visualization by : Alexander J. Smits
Download or read book Flow Visualization written by Alexander J. Smits and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2012 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the 2nd edition of the book, Flow Visualization: Techniques and Examples, which was published by Imperial College Press in 2000. Many of the chapters have been revised and updated to take into consideration recent changes in a number of flow visualization and measurement techniques, including an updated high quality flow gallery. Unique among similar publications, this book focuses on the practical rather than theoretical aspects. Obtaining high quality flow visualization results is, in many ways, more of an art than a science, and experience plays a key deciding role. The depth and breadth of the material will make this book invaluable to readers of all levels of experience in the field.

Book Synopsis Flow Visualization and Image Analysis by : F.T. Nieuwstadt
Download or read book Flow Visualization and Image Analysis written by F.T. Nieuwstadt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress in fluid mechanics depends heavily on the availability of good experimental data which can inspire new ideas and concepts but which are also necessary to check and validate theories and numerical calculations. With the advent of new recording and image analysis techniques new and promising experimental methods in fluid flows have presented themselves which are rather newly developed techniques such as particle tracking velocimetry (PTV), particle image velocimetry (PIV) and laser fluorescene (LIF). This volume presents state-of-the-art research on these techniques and their application to fluid flow. Selected papers from the EUROMECH conference on Image Analysis are published in this volume.

Book Synopsis Topological Methods in Data Analysis and Visualization IV by : Hamish Carr
Download or read book Topological Methods in Data Analysis and Visualization IV written by Hamish Carr and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-06-01 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents contributions on topics ranging from novel applications of topological analysis for particular problems, through studies of the effectiveness of modern topological methods, algorithmic improvements on existing methods, and parallel computation of topological structures, all the way to mathematical topologies not previously applied to data analysis. Topological methods are broadly recognized as valuable tools for analyzing the ever-increasing flood of data generated by simulation or acquisition. This is particularly the case in scientific visualization, where the data sets have long since surpassed the ability of the human mind to absorb every single byte of data. The biannual TopoInVis workshop has supported researchers in this area for a decade, and continues to serve as a vital forum for the presentation and discussion of novel results in applications in the area, creating a platform to disseminate knowledge about such implementations throughout and beyond the community. The present volume, resulting from the 2015 TopoInVis workshop held in Annweiler, Germany, will appeal to researchers in the fields of scientific visualization and mathematics, domain scientists with an interest in advanced visualization methods, and developers of visualization software systems.

Book Synopsis Techniques of Flow Visualization by : Wolfgang Merzkirch
Download or read book Techniques of Flow Visualization written by Wolfgang Merzkirch and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The techniques of flow visualization and their application in wind tunnels, water channels, and experiments related to propulsion research are reviewed. These techniques can be classified roughly into three major groups: Surface flow visualization, scattering from flow tracers, and density sensitive flow visualization. The progress in laser optics and the wide-spread use of computers has led to the development of new techniques and evaluation procedures, which are included in the review; e.g. laser-induced fluorescence, speckle photography, image processing, and optical tomography. Emphasis is given to the discussion of the physical background of the methods. Information on technical details is provided by means of a number of sample photographs and by respective references.
