"Flourishing Through Flops" isn't about pretending those face plants don't hurt. Instead, it's a raw and honest exploration of the messy, chaotic, and strangely beautiful world of failure. We'll rip apart the myth of the perfect success story, peek under the hood of our emotional breakdowns, and celebrate the wild resilience of the human spirit. We'll uncover hidden gems in the aftermath of disaster, question everything we thought we knew about failure, and even ponder the ethical dilemmas it presents. This book is not a magic shield against failure – it's a compass to guide you through the storm. It's a rebellious invitation to embrace the stumbles, the fumbles, and the epic fails as stepping stones toward a richer, more meaningful life. Whether you're an ambitious go-getter or simply navigating the everyday rollercoaster, "Flourishing Through Flops" will empower you to turn your setbacks into your greatest strengths. In short, it's a raw and honest exploration of failure, offering a rebellious invitation to embrace setbacks as stepping stones toward a richer, more meaningful life.

Book Synopsis Coming Back to a Theater Near You by : Brian Hannan
Download or read book Coming Back to a Theater Near You written by Brian Hannan and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2016-06-14 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Silent Era, film reissues were a battle between rival studios--every Mary Pickford new release in 1914 was met with a Pickford re-release. For 50 years after the Silent Era, reissues were a battle between the studios, who considered old movies "found money," and cinema owners, who often saw audiences reject former box office hits. In the mid-1960s, the return of The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957)--the second biggest reissue of all time--altered industry perceptions, and James Bond double features pushed the revival market to new heights. In the digital age, reissues have continued to confound the critics. This is the untold hundred-year story of how old movies saved new Hollywood. Covering the booms and busts of a recycling business that became its own industry, the author describes how the likes of Charlie Chaplin, Humphrey Bogart and Alfred Hitchcock won over new generations of audiences, and explores the lasting appeal of films like Napoleon (1927), Gone with the Wind (1939), The Rocky Horror Show (1975) and Blade Runner (1982).
Book Synopsis Caribbean Security in the Age of Terror by : Ivelaw L. Griffith
Download or read book Caribbean Security in the Age of Terror written by Ivelaw L. Griffith and published by Ian Randle Publishers. This book was released on 2004 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The security issues which have come into prominence since the September 11 terrorist attack in the USA provide both the starting point and the focus for this comprehensive survey of contemporary security issues in the Caribbean. This volume assesses the impact of the 9/11 terrorist attack on Caribbean states and examines the institutional and operational terrorism response capacity of security agencies in the region. However, understanding security challenge and change in the Caribbean context requires a broad-based multidimensional approach; terrorism for the small, open and vulnerable nation states of the Caribbean region is a real security issue but even more so, is a range of untraditional threats like crime, drug trafficking, territorial disputes, environmental degradation and the rapid spread of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. How these states adapt policies and practices to adjust to the new regional and global circumstances represent the challenge and the change.
Book Synopsis The Ethics of Social Roles by : Alex Barber
Download or read book The Ethics of Social Roles written by Alex Barber and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-03-16 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The various social roles we occupy, such as teacher, parent, or friend, shape our ethical lives and colour our perceptions of each other and ourselves. Social roles have long been a central topic in sociology, and specific social roles frequently feature within applied moral philosophy and professional ethics. In striking contrast, the normative significance of social roles per se--the 'ethics of social roles' as a distinct field of philosophical enquiry--has been relatively neglected. Indeed, the view that social roles have genuine ethical bite is often tacitly dismissed as socially regressive, as if the pull of a social role must always be towards 'knowing one's place'. The present collection aims to change this by putting social roles back where they belong: at the centre of normative ethics. After an editors' introduction aimed at readers new to the topic, fourteen original chapters by an international line-up of new and established authors show how the topic of social roles is a kind of missing link between several better-established topics, including collective agency, special obligations, wellbeing, and social and political justice. These contributions are organized into four parts. The first looks at the topic through a historical lens, since philosophers have not always neglected social roles. The second addresses the source of the apparent normative force of social roles. The third examines the relation of a social role's normativity to its wider institutional context. The fourth looks at implications for self and wellbeing.
