Download or read book Shear Behavior of Lightweight Concrete Columns Under Seismic Conditions written by M. J. Kowalsky and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is the first in a series of reports on the seismic performance of lightweight concrete bridge substructure elements. Through a discussion of experimental studies on two test units and analytical investigations, the shear capacity of lightweight concrete bridge columns subjected to cyclic loading is presented. Also presented in this report is a revised model for quantifying the contribution of transverse steel to shear strength that is applicable to both lightweight and normal weight concrete. An alternative method for the evaluation of shear deformation for design and assessment purposes is presented which is also applicable to lightweight and normal weight concrete members.
Book Synopsis Creep Behaviour in Cracked Sections of Fibre Reinforced Concrete by : Pedro Serna
Download or read book Creep Behaviour in Cracked Sections of Fibre Reinforced Concrete written by Pedro Serna and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-23 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first publication ever focusing strictly on the creep behaviour in cracked sections of Fibre Reinforced Concrete (FRC). These proceedings contain the latest scientific papers about new testing methodologies, results and conclusions of multiple experimental campaigns and recommendations about significant factors of long-term behaviour, experiences from more than ten years of creep testing and some reflections about future perspectives on this topic. This book is an essential reference for all researchers of creep behaviour on FRC. This volume is the result of the efforts of the RILEM TC 261-CCF, that has been working since 2014 to develop standardized methodologies and guidelines to compare results from different laboratories and get a better understanding of the significant parameters related to creep of FRC.

Book Synopsis Shake Table Testing of Lightweight Concrete Bridges by : Mervyn Kowalsky
Download or read book Shake Table Testing of Lightweight Concrete Bridges written by Mervyn Kowalsky and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lightweight concrete has been used frequently in the past for building structures, however, its limited use in bridges as well as questionable past earthquake performance have pointed towards the need to investigate the dynamic behavior. The research presented here represents the third phase of the lightweight concrete testing program at the University of California, San Diego, where the dynamic behavior of the material is considered. The results of the first two phases of testing indicated that lightweight concrete performs well with little decrease in shear and flexural strength under cyclic loading. The testing described here encompasses two test units subjected to earthquake time histories on the Shake Table. The objective of testing is to further verify the results of the first two phases of cyclic testing where shear and flexural response were considered, as well as to investigate the overall dynamic behavior. Results are presented in the form of a qualitative assessment of dynamic response as well as further verification of the recommendations presented during the first two stages of testing. Additionally, a steel jacket repair of the prestressed unit allowed investigation of the dynamic behavior of lightweight concrete after a damaging event and subsequent repair.

This book was released on 2019-02-27 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reinforced concrete columns play a very important role in structural performance. As such, it is essential to apply a suitable analytical tool to estimate their structural behaviour considering all failure mechanisms such as axial, shear, and flexural failures. This book highlights the development of a fiber beam-column element accounting for shear effects and the effect of tension stiffening through reinforcement-to-concrete bond, along with the employment of suitable constitutive material laws.

Download or read book Lightweight Aggregate Concrete written by Satish Chandra and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-10-28 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In spite of the increasing use and demand for lightweight aggregate concrete (LWAC), there is still a lack of adequate explanations to understand the mechanisms responsible for the strength and durability properties of LWAC. This book is written to give an overall picture of LWAC, from the historical background, aggregate production, proportioning and production of concrete, to applications in structures. Physical properties and chemical durability are described in detail. The physical properties include density, strength, shrinkage, and elasticity. Chemical durability includes resistance to acids, chloride ingress, carbonation, and freeze-thaw resistance. Fire resistance is also included, which is seldom considered, but is a very important aspect of the safety of the structure. Microstructure development and its relation to the durability properties of LWAC generally are not highlighted in the literature. The development of bonds, the microstructure with different binder systems, and different types of lightweight aggregates are explained. They show how lightweight aggregate concrete differs from normal weight concrete. The chapters on chloride ingress and freeze-thaw resistance are detailed because of the use of LWAC in offshore construction. The economical aspects of using LWAC are also reviewed. Emphasis is placed on the fact that although the cost of LWAC is high, the total cost of construction has to be considered, including the cost of transport, reinforcement, etc. When these are considered then LWAC becomes cheaper and attractive. The life cycle cost of the concrete is another consideration for calculating long-term savings on maintenance costs.

Book Synopsis Basic Principles of Concrete Structures by : Xianglin Gu
Download or read book Basic Principles of Concrete Structures written by Xianglin Gu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-09 with total page 620 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the latest version of designing codes both for buildings and bridges (GB50010-2010 and JTG D62-2004), this book starts from steel and concrete materials, whose properties are very important to the mechanical behavior of concrete structural members. Step by step, analysis of reinforced and prestressed concrete members under basic loading types (tension, compression, flexure, shearing and torsion) and environmental actions are introduced. The characteristic of the book that distinguishes it from other textbooks on concrete structures is that more emphasis has been laid on the basic theories of reinforced concrete and the application of the basic theories in design of new structures and analysis of existing structures. Examples and problems in each chapter are carefully designed to cover every important knowledge point. As a basic course for undergraduates majoring in civil engineering, this course is different from either the previously learnt mechanics courses or the design courses to be learnt. Compared with mechanics courses, the basic theories of reinforced concrete structures cannot be solely derived by theoretical analysis. And compared with design courses, this course emphasizes the introduction of basic theories rather than simply being a translation of design specifications. The book will focus on both the theoretical derivations and the engineering practices.
