Book Synopsis Manufacturing and Supply Systems Management by : B. Wu
Download or read book Manufacturing and Supply Systems Management written by B. Wu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to compete in an increasingly demanding market, many manufacturing companies have to redesign or restructure their manufacturing systems so that a set of coherent manufacturing strategies can be supported. So this book aims to provide a comprehensive treatment of manufacturing strategy analysis (MSA) and manufacturing systems design (MSD). The strategic concerns of manufacturing are linked to subsequent manufacturing systems design activities through the use of an effective MSA/MSD interface. Topics include: A structured approach to formulating manufacturing strategies; A set of linking processes to translate MSA concerns into relevant MSD action plans; Case studies. This book is intended to help graduates and industry-based professionals to make more informed decisions when working on system-design or redesign projects.

Book Synopsis Let's Talk about Flex: Flipping the flexible working narrative for education by : Emma Turner
Download or read book Let's Talk about Flex: Flipping the flexible working narrative for education written by Emma Turner and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2020-11-25 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The narrative around flexible working needs flipping. After being able to work flexibly for 14 of her 23 years in education across teaching, school leadership and MAT leadership roles, Emma Turner realised that sadly, she's actually in the minority and has just been kinda lucky. Across the education system, although there is a recent groundswell of support for developing more life friendly, innovative and flexi ways of working, there are still a great deal of misconceptions, biases and prejudices about flexible working and flexible workers. Through her 'playlist' of educational floor fillers, Emma explores some of the successful ways in which flexible working can be viewed by both employers and employees for staff at all levels, including senior and school leadership. Designed to open up the flexible working conversation, this book outlines what can work, what has worked and what could work. This new way of viewing the flexi narrative from an experienced flex-pert encourages all to revisit our views on flexible working.
Book Synopsis Flexibility in Engineering Design by : Richard De Neufville
Download or read book Flexibility in Engineering Design written by Richard De Neufville and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2011-08-12 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A guide to using the power of design flexibility to improve the performance of complex technological projects, for designers, managers, users, and analysts. Project teams can improve results by recognizing that the future is inevitably uncertain and that by creating flexible designs they can adapt to eventualities. This approach enables them to take advantage of new opportunities and avoid harmful losses. Designers of complex, long-lasting projects—such as communication networks, power plants, or hospitals—must learn to abandon fixed specifications and narrow forecasts. They need to avoid the “flaw of averages,” the conceptual pitfall that traps so many designs in underperformance. Failure to allow for changing circumstances risks leaving significant value untapped. This book is a guide for creating and implementing value-enhancing flexibility in design. It will be an essential resource for all participants in the development and operation of technological systems: designers, managers, financial analysts, investors, regulators, and academics. The book provides a high-level overview of why flexibility in design is needed to deliver significantly increased value. It describes in detail methods to identify, select, and implement useful flexibility. The book is unique in that it explicitly recognizes that future outcomes are uncertain. It thus presents forecasting, analysis, and evaluation tools especially suited to this reality. Appendixes provide expanded explanations of concepts and analytic tools.

Book Synopsis Distribution and Supply Logistics by : Martin Straka
Download or read book Distribution and Supply Logistics written by Martin Straka and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2019-10-21 with total page 627 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is logistics? What is distribution and supply? What is supply chain management? Which elements create distribution and supply space? Which aspects affect storage design? Which information technologies are suitable for distribution and supply systems? What costs affect distribution and supply systems? These are just some of the questions explored in this book. In addition to providing theoretical analysis of the problems of distribution and supply, it practically demonstrates the many ways of using of heuristics to solve specific tasks. It brings together eight case studies to investigate facets such as designing distribution systems, location problem solving, distribution and collection of goods solutions, and inventory management solutions in particular companies. As such, it will appeal to students in the field of logistics, as well as logistics managers, designers and planners.

Book Synopsis Accessible Elements by : Dietmar Karl Kennepohl
Download or read book Accessible Elements written by Dietmar Karl Kennepohl and published by Athabasca University Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accessible Elements informs science educators about current practices in online and distance education: distance-delivered methods for laboratory coursework, the requisite administrative and institutional aspects of online and distance teaching, and the relevant educational theory. Delivery of university-level courses through online and distance education is a method of providing equal access to students seeking post-secondary education. Distance delivery offers practical alternatives to traditional on-campus education for students limited by barriers such as classroom scheduling, physical location, finances, or job and family commitments. The growing recognition and acceptance of distance education, coupled with the rapidly increasing demand for accessibility and flexible delivery of courses, has made distance education a viable and popular option for many people to meet their science educational goals.

Book Synopsis Neural Circuitry of Behavioral Flexibility: Dopamine and Related Systems by : Gregory B. Bissonette
Download or read book Neural Circuitry of Behavioral Flexibility: Dopamine and Related Systems written by Gregory B. Bissonette and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2016-03-22 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decades of research have identified a role for dopamine neurotransmission in prefrontal cortical function and flexible cognition. Abnormal dopamine neurotransmission underlies many cases of cognitive dysfunction. New techniques using optogenetics have allowed for ever more precise functional segregation of areas within the prefrontal cortex, which underlie separate cognitive functions. Learning theory predictions have provided a very useful framework for interpreting the neural activity of dopamine neurons, yet even dopamine neurons present a range of responses, from salience to prediction error signaling. The functions of areas like the Lateral Habenula have been recently described, and its role, presumed to be substantial, is largely unknown. Many other neural systems interact with the dopamine system, like cortical GABAergic interneurons, making it critical to understand those systems and their interactions with dopamine in order to fully appreciate dopamine•s role in flexible behavior. Advances in human clinical research, like exome sequencing, are driving experimental hypotheses which will lead to fruitful new research directions, but how do (or should?) these clinical findings inform basic research? Following new information from these techniques, we may begin to develop a fresh understanding of human disease states which will inform novel treatment possibilities. However, we need an operational framework with which to interpret these new findings. Therefore, the purpose of this Research Topic is to integrate what we know of dopamine, the prefrontal cortex and flexible behavior into a clear framework, which will illuminate clear, testable directions for future research.
