Book excerpt: UntitledFlash 5 Hands-on Training is a tutorial-based learning tool for beginning Flash designers from Lynda Weinmans best-selling Hands-on Training series. With no prior experience using Flash, users will be led through a series of exercises that start quite simply and increase in complexity, until they have learned how to use all of the basic tools in Flash 5. Beginning with the drawing tools, users will learn how to create art and basic shape tweens, convert their art to symbols and then create motion tweens, and gradually build more complex animations and buttons by learning how to use multiple scenes, layers, movie clips, and the basic ActionScripting features that ship with the program. Like the other books in the Hands-on Training series, this book comes with a companion CD-ROM that includes a trial version of the software, the complete exercise files, and QuickTime movies featuring demonstrations from the authors.

Book excerpt: There's no better way for you to get your feet wet using Macromedia Flash MX than with a H.O.T. tutorial, Lynda Weinman's well-loved and unique style of instruction. With Macromedia Flash MX Hands-On Training, you'll learn core Macromedia Flash MX principles and techniques in a real-world Web design environment. The step-by-step projects build successively, teaching you not only the various features of Macromedia Flash MX, but also how to actually work with the program to achieve results. Each lesson is chock-full of background information, tips, and insight aimed at helping you understand the process as much as the exercise itself. And the accompanying CD-ROM includes both starter files and finished files for each lesson, as well as QuickTime instructional movies, so that you can learn by watching "and" doing. Macromedia Flash MX H.O.T. covers all of the most important new features of Macromedia Flash MX, beginning with projects that focus on the MX interface, drawing and color tools, animation basics, tweening, symbols and instances, bitmaps, and more. As the projects progress, you'll tackle more complex techniques, such as working with movie clips, text, sound, and video. The latter part of the book addresses publishing and managing Macromedia Flash MX content, as well as how to create content by integrating other software into Macromedia Flash MX. If you're looking for an intelligent, approachable guide for learning Macromedia's latest version of Flash, you'll find lynda.com's Hands-On Training your e-ticket to Macromedia Flash MX expertise!

With Flash 4 Hands-On Training, readers can now learn how to use Flash in the same accessible, same step-by-step method that made author Lynda Weinman's training center in Ojai so popular. Readers will learn a core set of techniques---and the concepts behind them---by completing a series of exercises that demonstrate how to create frame-by-fram, motion, and shape-tweening animations, how to use the Timeline, create Symbols, generate buttons and rollovers, build slide shows, create forms, use sound, and much more. In addition to all of the lesson files included on the companion CD-Rom, readers will also get QuickTime videos that demonstrate many of the key techniques used in the book to make their training complete.

Extensive screen shots makes it easier to learn. Short projects, means that you can gain a solid understanding of a single concept before moving onto the next . From the author "My students and I agree that the most enjoyable way to learn complex software is with short projects that provide new, interesting and creative techniques that can be used, or modified, immediately for your own web creations."

Since it was first published in 1995, designing web graphics has been the seminal resource for web designers to learn the basics and then the nuances of solid design for the web. Lynda Weinman has been updating the book to reflect changes in the technologies affecting web design, but dwg.4 has been largely rewritten from the ground up. Included is coverage of motion graphics made possible by the Flash phenomenon, broadband-enabled graphics issues, usability, and more. Lynda is rewriting the book so that all coverage of specific tools is focused on the essential functionality of these programs (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, etc.) and not on version-specific attributes of the software, making the book relevant longer for more users.

This book was released on 2015-06-08 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We intuitively believe that we are aware of the external world as it is. Unfortunately, this is not entirely true. In fact, the capacity of our sensory system is too small to veridically perceive the world. To overcome this problem, the sensory system has to spatiotemporally integrate neural signals in order to interpret the external world. However, the spatiotemporal integration involves severe neural latencies. How does the sensory system keep up with the ever-changing external world? As later discussed, ‘prediction’ and ‘postdiction’ are essential keywords here. For example, the sensory system uses temporally preceding events to predict subsequent events (e.g., Nijhawan, 1994; Kerzel, 2003; Hubbard, 2005) even when the preceding event is subliminally presented (Schmidt, 2000). Moreover, internal prediction modulates the perception of action outcomes (Bays et al., 2005; Cardoso-Leite et al., 2010) and sense of agency (Wenke et al., 2010). Prediction is also an indispensable factor for movement planning and control (Kawato, 1999). On the other hand, the sensory system also makes use of subsequent events to postdictively interpret a preceding event (e.g. Eagleman & Sejnowski, 2000; Enns, 2002; Khuu et al., 2010; Kawabe, 2011, 2012; Miyazaki et al., 2010; Ono & Kitazawa, 2011) and it's much the same even for infancy (Newman et al., 2008). Moreover, it has also been proposed that sense of agency stems not only from predictive processing but also from postdictive inference (Ebert & Wegner, 2011). The existence of postdictive processing is also supported by several neuroscience studies (Kamitani & Shimojo, 1999; Lau et al., 2007). How prediction and postdiction shape awareness of the external world is an intriguing question. Prediction is involved with the encoding of incoming signals, whereas postdiction is related to a re-interpretation of already encoded signals. Given this perspective, prediction and postdiction may exist along a processing stream for a single external event. However, it is unclear whether, and if so how, prediction and postdiction interact with each other to shape awareness of the external world. Awareness of the external world may also shape prediction and/or postdiction. It is plausible that awareness of the external world drives the prediction and postdiction of future and past appearances of the world. However, the literature provides little information about the role of awareness of the external world in prediction and postdiction. This background propelled us to propose this research topic with the aim of offering a space for systematic discussion concerning the relationship between awareness, prediction and postdiction among researchers in broad research areas, such as psychology, psychophysics, neuroscience, cognitive science, philosophy, and so forth. We encouraged papers that address one or more of the following questions: 1) How does prediction shape awareness of the external world? 2) How does postdiction shape awareness of the external world? 3) How do prediction and postdiction interact with each other in shaping awareness of the external world? 4) How does awareness of the external world shape prediction/postdiction?

Your skill and patience has made me infinitely more comfortable with my weapons and myself. The next class you teach, I'll be there in a heartbeat. I'm sure you don't have to be reminded of the multitude of people you have touched and the positive impact you have had on firearms training overall. Bob Patridge Len has taught me to effectively and safely use a handgun and rifle and for that I will always be grateful. I look forward to the time I spend once or twice a week under his instruction. Len has created a wide range of firearms training programs out of virtually nothing and trained a sizeable and competent cadre of firearms instructors who, like me, greatly respects the man. He is engaged with his students and always approachable. Students who have shot much longer than me comment on his great depth of knowledge and ability to improve their shooting. He clearly loves to teach the material and his enthusiasm is contagious. He has a great sense of humor and makes his classes a lot of fun. But in spite of all of this the safety of his students is always his first concern. Dr. Noel Pillman, MD I am a retired police officer and a former police firearms instructor for over 20 years. I have been to numerous firearms training classes over the years but have not had any instructors more professional, knowledgeable, and dedicated to what they do then Len Breure. Maurice Merabella "Len was my first real 'tactical' instructor a few years ago. He is a thorough, safe, and well versed instructor. His teaching style is unique in a way that clearly conveys lessons and makes them easy to understand for experienced shooters and novices alike. Len brings a wealth of prior "been there, done that" experience to the table that's an asset to his teaching, and is rarely found in many of the new instructors that have come to the arena since most states have enacted concealed carry laws. I continue to train with a variety of tactical instructors, and am always amazed by how much of the information Len taught me is still the foundation upon which I build." Mike VanMeeteren "I have been fortunate enough to receive numerous training courses that were being taught by Len Breure. In my opinion, Len is one of the best in the business! It is very rewarding to be able to learn from someone who has the experience and knowledge to take tactical training to the next level." Jim Bryant I first meet Len while taking my Minnesota Concealed Carry Course in 2005. Since that time I have taken every course that Len teaches. In my opinion Len is the consummate professional, who teaches with passion and an incredible degree of knowledge. I would strongly urge anyone interested in personal protection to take Lens courses.
