Not least have been the tremendous strides made in the use of fibre reinforced resin systems. Although by far the bulk of all fibre reinforced products are made from unsaturated polyester r~sins reinforced with glass fibres, other resins and other fibres are playing an increasingly important role. It is with this in mind that the present book has been written. An attempt has been made to combine within one book information on the various resin systems and reinforcing fibres in use today, together with some properties and processing details. Since most of the resins available are formulated products rather than pure chemical compounds, some information has been included on commercially available materials. For convenience, where commercial data have been included, these have been located at the end of the appropriate chapter or, where only limited data are presented, at the end of the appropriate section. Such data have been included for the benefit of designers and fabricators, to indicate the wide choice of materials available and to enable them to select materials without having to approach a vast number of suppliers and then to sift through an even greater number of data sheets.

Penn's original PVC Technology, and the extensively revised third (1971) edition prepared by myself and B. J. Lanham. In the present edition the original general format, and the arrange ment of chapters, have been largely preserved, but virtually nothing now remains of Penn's own text: a part of the contents is based on material from the 1971 TitowlLanham version (revised, updated and mainly rewritten): the rest is new, including, inter alia, several chapters specially contributed by experts from the plastics industry in the UK and Europe. The section listing international (ISO) and national (BS, ASTM and DIN) standards relevant to PVC, which was first intro duced (as Appendix 1) in the 1971 edition, proved a popularfeature: it has now been brought up to date and considerably extended. Two further appendices provide, respectively, comprehensive unit conver sion"tables (with additional information on some ofthe mostfrequently encountered units, and the SI units), and a list of many properties of interest in PVC materials, with definitions, typical numerical values, and references~to relevant standard test methods. At its ninth session (7 December 2018), the Committee adopted a set of amendments to the sixth revised edition of the Manual as amended by Amendment 1. This seventh revised edition takes account of these amendments. In addition, noting that the work to facilitate the use of the Manual in the context of the GHS had been completed, the Committee considered that the reference to the "Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods" in the title of the Manual was no longer appropriate, and decided that from now on, the Manual should be entitled "Manual of Tests and Criteria".
