Book Synopsis Lawmen of the Old West by : Del Cain
Download or read book Lawmen of the Old West written by Del Cain and published by Taylor Trade Publishing. This book was released on 2001-01-16 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some of the law officers who served the West during the last half of the nineteenth century drifted from one side of the law to the other and sold their talents to whichever side offered the most advantage. Others used their positions as cover for their criminal activities. The lawmen in this book were serious offenders against the laws they had at one time sworn to uphold. Their skills were honed in range wars and family feuds and polished along the cattle trails, in the saloons and banks, and on the trains of the West. Some of them did good work enforcing the law when that was their job. Others had equally successful careers on the other side of the law. More than one kicked out their lives at the end of ropes strung up by citizens who were outraged by their abuse of the trust that went along with the badge they wore. These are their stories.
Download or read book HOW TO TALK TEXAN written by Gary Readore and published by Gary Readore. This book was released on 2024-10-06 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is often said that people in Texas speak differently than in other parts of the good ole' USA. We have different expressions, or "Texasisms", and we pronounce words differently. This can be very interesting and intriguing, yet also a bit perplexing. Have you ever asked, "What are they actually saying"? "What do these words and expressions mean"? Well, if so, then this is the book for you! This book begins with brief explanations on Texas geography, economy and culture. It then touches on linguistical nuances of the Texan vernacular before getting into the "meat of the matter", which are the Texan expressions. With over 150 of the most common phrases, you will be exposed to real Texan speech. Each expression has a definition so you know exactly what is the meaning behind the phrase. Additionally, each expression is followed by two (2) example sentences so you can see how it is used in standard context. After reading through this book, you will be "Talking Like A Texan" in no time! You may, however, have to work on your Texas "twang" or "southern drawl", lol, but that will come with time!
Book Synopsis The Yankee Chick's Survival Guide to Texas by : Sophia Dembling
Download or read book The Yankee Chick's Survival Guide to Texas written by Sophia Dembling and published by Taylor Trade Publications. This book was released on 2001-12-27 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Texas "Yankee" is a loose term covering a lot of ground. If you're not a Texan or a southerner, you're a Yankee and therefore, to many Texans, suspect. There are many rites of passage to being a Yankee in Texas: the first time you spot a pickup with a gun rack; the first time you realize that a week is a long time to go without Mexican food; the first time you recognize a change in seasons; your first thunderstorm; your first honky-tonk. Culture Shock in Texas can be intense and is exacerbate by local rules of propriety that tell us to keep out mouths shut. But here in this book we are going to talk all about it with good old Yankee outspokenness. We'll clear the air, share experiences, orient newcomers, and have some good laughs.

Book Synopsis Live by Chance, Love by Choice, Kill by Profession by : Roy Mark
Download or read book Live by Chance, Love by Choice, Kill by Profession written by Roy Mark and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-04-07 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roy Mark does it again! The follow-on book to his excellent FIXIN' TO DIE RAG again focuses on the men and times of Charlie Company of the 1st Cavalry Division's 229th Assault Helicopter Battalion during the Vietnam War. However, where FIXIN' TO DIE RAG mainly covered ten bad days between March and September 1970, LIVE BY CHANCE, LOVE BY CHOICE, KILL BY PROFESSION steps back and widens its focus. The narratives in LIVE BY CHANCE, LOVE BY CHOICE, KILL BY PROFESSION are about people rather than events. The central figures are Sterling Cody, Ozzie Daniels, and Phil Seefeld. The three are young Warrant Officers who are assigned to Charlie Company during a particularly hectic, dangerous, and important portion of the war. To help the reader better understand these men, Roy Mark has done an outstanding job of describing many of the formative events-some serious, some frivolous and some hazardous-in the lives of these men and their families. Particularly enriching are the chapters devoted to stories of Sterling Cody's father, brother, and certain moments marking his march to manhood. LIVE BY CHANCE, LOVE BY CHOICE, KILL BY PROFESSION follows Sterling Cody into the Drug Wars of South America where he transitions into the more modern and advanced UH 60 Black Hawk helicopters. After retiring, Lieutenant Colonel Sterling was recalled to active duty for one more mission: Iraqi Freedom. LIVE BY CHANCE, LOVE BY CHOICE, KILL BY PROFESSION, interesting reading though it is, does not neglect to describe some of the terrifying misfortunes attendant to any war-the close calls, the physical wounds, the mental anguish, the deaths of good men. Roy Mark is at his best in these passages. LIVE BY CHANCE, LOVE BY CHOICE, KILL BY PROFESSION is a book that will fascinate and sometimes amuse the reader. It's a very hard book to put down.
