Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preaching is a challenging, privileged, and awesome responsibility. As important as mining the text for its meaning and message and making connections to our twenty-first-century world is the responsibility to engage the imaginations of the people in the pews (or chairs). In this book, Ray Friesen--life-long preacher and retired pastor--has provided twenty examples of how to be creative and engage those imaginations. Most were written under the pressures of bi-vocational ministry (preaching forty times a year as half-time pastor and operating a mediation practice). They are offered to you, not as sermons for you to preach, but as examples of what is possible, even with all the other responsibilities you may have. Each sermon and type of creativity will create an opportunity to set your imagination and creativity free to engage the imaginations, hearts, and dreams of your parishioners.

Download or read book Graced by Waters written by John Dietsch and published by Savio Republic. This book was released on 2020-04-28 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this inspirational and humorous collection of essays, author John Dietsch sees his addiction to and passion for fishing as a parable that can help us shift from compulsive thinking to mindfulness and a closer connection to God. From creating fishing scenes on the set of A River Runs Through It in Montana, to directing fly fishing shows in New Zealand and from exploring deep canyons in California to guiding in Colorado, John shares his experiences and asks the question: what are we really fishing for? Through John’s journeys across the globe, we discover that the same pursuit in fishing—of what is elusive but attainable—can be applied to our own spiritual journey. In the end, Dietsch uncovers his own truth under the rocks of a childhood river, recognizing the loss of both his brothers as the path of acceptance and faith that is graced by waters.
Book Synopsis Building Verbal Imitation in Toddlers by : Laura Mize
Download or read book Building Verbal Imitation in Toddlers written by Laura Mize and published by . This book was released on 2012-05-01 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laura Mize, pediatric speech-language pathologist and founder of www.teachmetotalk.com, details the hierarchy of imitation skills she teaches to therapists in seminars throughout the country and in her best-selling therapy manuals and DVDs. Many times therapists and parents don’t see success with late talking toddlers because the child needs an “in-between” step to help him learn the next component for expressive skill development. Our professional plans can also fail when we use techniques that are too clinical for parents to be able to remember and practice at home. This eight level approach is contained in Building Verbal Imitation in Toddlers.
Download or read book Robbin’S Island written by Kenneth Norris and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-11-01 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being a native of North Carolina and living in a small coastal town opens up so many windows of opportunity. As the road sign says: Welcome to Savannahs Point. Whether you go back to the (1400s to 2000s) theres a lot to write about and tell the reader. Even tourists and visitors want to know about you. There is the Civil war, and the Revolutionary War. Many events have taken place throughout our community and yours. We hear about the Pirate Blackbeard and his acts of piracy and other ships sailing the seas. Coastal North Carolina is known as the graveyard of the Atlantic. Did Blackbeard participate in these events? Maybe, he sure is an infamous figure today. Our community church people are generous, helping with the needs of others. The old timers can educate you on certain subjects, and they should be given their time. One of the best places to go to find out about your town or community is your local newspaper. They have resources to help you find out about people and events that have helped shape your community and town. Sad to say but many of our stories have passed, along with the storytellers. Ive learned in our community, about places, and events that I never knew existed, and a lot of it was by word of mouth. Still there are those literary searchers with pen and paper who hope to pick up that special treasure of a person, place, or thing to write about, something to share with you and me. This is just what I have written about, called Robbins Island.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: They've loved each other since childhood. Marriage has always been their destiny. But lately they've lost a fragile balance between them. Now he's given himself a deadline to win her back or lose her forever. They've been soulmates, best friends, and sweethearts since they were kids living next door to each other. Twenty years. Everyone in Cordial Creek, Vermont expects thirty-year-old Sam, an architect, and twenty-eight-year-old Megan, a paralegal, to tie the knot. They were about to do that until the untimely death of Sam's dad two years ago devastated Sam and settled him even deeper into the small town he loves. He threw himself into his construction company and took on new responsibilities as his mother's shoulder-to-lean-on. Megan adores him but is struggling with the changes in their relationship--and with some doubts about herself that she can't quite identify. One small, reckless mistake on her part--a silly ploy to shake Sam out of his doldrums--explodes into a painful turning point. He sets out to remind her of all the special bonds they share and why they're perfect together. If the memories don't solve Megan's crisis, all the little things that they love about each other may not be enough to keep them together. Heidi Sprouse writes romances about ordinary men who become extraordinary through their actions and the women who love them. She lives in historic Johnstown, a small upstate New York town on the fringe of the Adirondacks, with her husband, Jim, and son, Patrick. Download or read book Fishes written by Gene Helfman and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2011-11-03 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One fish, two fish, red fish, nearly thirty thousand species of fish -- or fishes, as they are properly called when speaking of multiple species. This is but one of many things the authors of this fascinatingly informative book reveal in answering common and not-so-common questions about this ubiquitous group of animals. Fishes range in size from tiny gobies to the massive Ocean Sunfish, which weighs thousands of pounds. They live in just about every body of water on the planet. Ichthyologists Gene Helfman and Bruce Collette provide accurate, entertaining, and sometimes surprising answers to over 100 questions about these water dwellers, such as "How many kinds of fishes are there?" "Can fishes breathe air?" "How smart are fishes?" and "Do fishes feel pain?" They explain how bony fishes evolved, the relationship between them and sharks, and why there is so much color variation among species. Along the way we also learn about the Devils Hole Pupfish, which has the smallest range of any vertebrate in the world; Lota lota, the only freshwater fish to spawn under ice; the Candiru, a pencil-thin Amazonian catfish that lodges itself in a very personal place of male bathers and must be removed surgically; and many other curiosities. With over 100 photographs -- including two full-color photo galleries -- and the most up-to-date facts on the world's fishes from two premier experts, this fun book is the perfect bait for any curious naturalist, angler, or aquarist.
