Book Synopsis Live Fire Testing of the F-22 by : National Research Council
Download or read book Live Fire Testing of the F-22 written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1995-07-17 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Live Fire Test Law mandates realistic survivability and lethality testing of covered systems or programs. A provision of the law permits the Secretary of Defense to waive tests if live fire testing would be "unreasonably expensive and impractical." Though no waiver was requested before the F-22 program entered engineering and manufacturing development, the Defense Department later asked that Congress enact legislation to permit a waiver to be granted retroactively. Rather than enact such legislation, Congress requested a study to explore the pros and cons of full-scale, full-up testing for the F-22 aircraft program. The book discusses the origin of testing requirements, evaluates the practicality, affordability, and cost-benefit of live fire tests, and examines the role of testing, modeling, and data bases in vulnerability assessment.
Book Synopsis Flammability Testing of Materials Used in Construction, Transport, and Mining by : Vivek Apte
Download or read book Flammability Testing of Materials Used in Construction, Transport, and Mining written by Vivek Apte and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2021-11-17 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flammability Testing of Materials used in Construction, Transport, and Mining, Second Edition provides an authoritative guide to current best practice in ensuring fire-safe design. The book begins by discussing the fundamentals of flammability, measurement techniques, and the main types of fire tests for various applications. Building on this foundation, a group of chapters then reviews tests for key materials used in the building, transport, and mining sectors. There are chapters on wood products, external cladding, and sandwich panels as well as the flammability of walls and ceilings linings. Tests for upholstered furniture and mattresses, cables, and electrical appliances are also reviewed. A final group of chapters discusses fire tests for the transport sector, including those for railway passenger cars, aircraft, road and rail tunnels, ships, and submarines. There is also a chapter on tests for spontaneous ignition of solid materials. With its distinguished international team of contributors, Flammability Testing of Materials used in Construction, Transport, and Mining is an invaluable reference for fire safety, civil, chemical, mechanical, mining and transport engineers. In this revised edition, the latest information is provided on fire testing of products, systems, components, and materials used across these essential sectors, with all regulations and standards brought up to date. - Relays all new developments in fire safety standards, regulations and performance requirements - Covers a broad range of infrastructure sectors such as construction, transport, and mining - Updated to include cutting-edge fire tests and the latest iteration of standards including ISO, ASTM, and EN

Book Synopsis Tunnel Fire Testing and Modeling by : Fabio Borghetti
Download or read book Tunnel Fire Testing and Modeling written by Fabio Borghetti and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-25 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to cast light on all aspects of tunnel fires, based on experimental activities and theoretical and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyses. In particular, the authors describe a transient full-scale fire test (~15 MW), explaining how they designed and performed the experimental activity inside the Morgex North tunnel in Italy. The entire organization of the experiment is described, from preliminary evaluations to the solutions found for management of operational difficulties and safety issues. This fire test allowed the collection of different measurements (temperature, air velocity, smoke composition, pollutant species) useful for validating and improving CFD codes and for testing the real behavior of the tunnel and its safety systems during a diesel oil fire with a significant heat release rate. Finally, the fire dynamics are compared with empirical correlations, CFD simulations, and literature measurements obtained in other similar tunnel fire tests. This book will be of interest to all engineers and public officials who are concerned with the nature, prevention, and management of tunnel fires.
