The book traces the history of biotransformations, clearly spells out the pros and cons of conducting enzyme-mediated versus whole-cell bioconversions, and gives a variety of examples wherein the bio-reaction is a key element in a reaction sequence leading from cheap starting materials to valuable end products.
Book Synopsis Index Theory in Von Neumann Algebras by : Catherine Louise Olsen
Download or read book Index Theory in Von Neumann Algebras written by Catherine Louise Olsen and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1984-12-31 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The object of this paper is to define a natural analytic index function on an arbitrary von Neumann algebra relative to an arbitrary ideal. This index map enables us to develop a complete Fredholm and semi-Fredholm theory in this setting which is parallel to classical Fredholm and semi-Fredholm theory.

Download or read book Operator Algebras and Their Applications written by Robert S. Doran and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2016-07-28 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: his volume contains the proceedings of the AMS Special Session Operator Algebras and Their Applications: A Tribute to Richard V. Kadison, held from January 10–11, 2015, in San Antonio, Texas. Richard V. Kadison has been a towering figure in the study of operator algebras for more than 65 years. His research and leadership in the field have been fundamental in the development of the subject, and his influence continues to be felt though his work and the work of his many students, collaborators, and mentees. Among the topics addressed in this volume are the Kadison-Kaplanksy conjecture, classification of C∗-algebras, connections between operator spaces and parabolic induction, spectral flow, C∗-algebra actions, von Neumann algebras, and applications to mathematical physics.

Book Synopsis Covering Dimension of C*-Algebras and 2-Coloured Classification by : Joan Bosa
Download or read book Covering Dimension of C*-Algebras and 2-Coloured Classification written by Joan Bosa and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2019-02-21 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors introduce the concept of finitely coloured equivalence for unital -homomorphisms between -algebras, for which unitary equivalence is the -coloured case. They use this notion to classify -homomorphisms from separable, unital, nuclear -algebras into ultrapowers of simple, unital, nuclear, -stable -algebras with compact extremal trace space up to -coloured equivalence by their behaviour on traces; this is based on a -coloured classification theorem for certain order zero maps, also in terms of tracial data. As an application the authors calculate the nuclear dimension of non-AF, simple, separable, unital, nuclear, -stable -algebras with compact extremal trace space: it is 1. In the case that the extremal trace space also has finite topological covering dimension, this confirms the remaining open implication of the Toms-Winter conjecture. Inspired by homotopy-rigidity theorems in geometry and topology, the authors derive a “homotopy equivalence implies isomorphism” result for large classes of -algebras with finite nuclear dimension.

Book Synopsis Polynomials and the mod 2 Steenrod Algebra: Volume 2, Representations of GL (n,F2) by : Grant Walker
Download or read book Polynomials and the mod 2 Steenrod Algebra: Volume 2, Representations of GL (n,F2) written by Grant Walker and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2017-11-09 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to link the mod 2 Steenrod algebra, a classical object of study in algebraic topology, with modular representations of matrix groups over the field F of two elements. The link is provided through a detailed study of Peterson's `hit problem' concerning the action of the Steenrod algebra on polynomials, which remains unsolved except in special cases. The topics range from decompositions of integers as sums of 'powers of 2 minus 1', to Hopf algebras and the Steinberg representation of GL(n, F). Volume 1 develops the structure of the Steenrod algebra from an algebraic viewpoint and can be used as a graduate-level textbook. Volume 2 broadens the discussion to include modular representations of matrix groups.
Book Synopsis Fusion Systems in Algebra and Topology by : Michael Aschbacher
Download or read book Fusion Systems in Algebra and Topology written by Michael Aschbacher and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-08-25 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fusion system over a p-group S is a category whose objects form the set of all subgroups of S, whose morphisms are certain injective group homomorphisms, and which satisfies axioms first formulated by Puig that are modelled on conjugacy relations in finite groups. The definition was originally motivated by representation theory, but fusion systems also have applications to local group theory and to homotopy theory. The connection with homotopy theory arises through classifying spaces which can be associated to fusion systems and which have many of the nice properties of p-completed classifying spaces of finite groups. Beginning with a detailed exposition of the foundational material, the authors then proceed to discuss the role of fusion systems in local finite group theory, homotopy theory and modular representation theory. This book serves as a basic reference and as an introduction to the field, particularly for students and other young mathematicians.
Book Synopsis A Double Hall Algebra Approach to Affine Quantum Schur–Weyl Theory by : Bangming Deng
Download or read book A Double Hall Algebra Approach to Affine Quantum Schur–Weyl Theory written by Bangming Deng and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of Schur–Weyl duality has had a profound influence over many areas of algebra and combinatorics. This text is original in two respects: it discusses affine q-Schur algebras and presents an algebraic, as opposed to geometric, approach to affine quantum Schur–Weyl theory. To begin, various algebraic structures are discussed, including double Ringel–Hall algebras of cyclic quivers and their quantum loop algebra interpretation. The rest of the book investigates the affine quantum Schur–Weyl duality on three levels. This includes the affine quantum Schur–Weyl reciprocity, the bridging role of affine q-Schur algebras between representations of the quantum loop algebras and those of the corresponding affine Hecke algebras, presentation of affine quantum Schur algebras and the realisation conjecture for the double Ringel–Hall algebra with a proof of the classical case. This text is ideal for researchers in algebra and graduate students who want to master Ringel–Hall algebras and Schur–Weyl duality.
