Book Synopsis Finite Element Analysis of Smart Structures and Modal Testing of a Flexible Spacecraft Arm by : James C. Trump
Download or read book Finite Element Analysis of Smart Structures and Modal Testing of a Flexible Spacecraft Arm written by James C. Trump and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis deals with analytical predictions and experimental determination of the modal frequencies and shapes associated with the arm portion of the Naval Postgraduate School's Flexible Spacecraft Simulator (FSS). A description of how piezoceramic sensors and actuators are incorporated in finite element modeling is presented. A MATLAB(TM) code conducting the finite element modeling of the arm is used to verify the modal frequencies generated via Structural Dynamic Research Corporation's I-DEAS(TM) software. Modal testing is conducted with the I-DEAS Test package to determine the first four physical modal frequencies and shapes so that we may compare them with the analytical results. The results of the testing indicated that finite element analysis predicted modes one and three within an average of 23.1%, and modes two and four within an average of 4.4%.

The book is used as a textbook for students and a reference for researchers who are interested in studying cutting-edge technology. It will be a valuable resource for academic and industrial researchers and professionals involved in the design and manufacture of active vibration controllers for structures in a wide variety of fields and industries including the automotive, rail, aerospace, and civil engineering sectors.
Book Synopsis Numerical Simulation of Mechatronic Sensors and Actuators by : Manfred Kaltenbacher
Download or read book Numerical Simulation of Mechatronic Sensors and Actuators written by Manfred Kaltenbacher and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-02-07 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like the previous editions also the third edition of this book combines the detailed physical modeling of mechatronic systems and their precise numerical simulation using the Finite Element (FE) method. Thereby, the basic chapter concerning the Finite Element (FE) method is enhanced, provides now also a description of higher order finite elements (both for nodal and edge finite elements) and a detailed discussion of non-conforming mesh techniques. The author enhances and improves many discussions on principles and methods. In particular, more emphasis is put on the description of single fields by adding the flow field. Corresponding to these field, the book is augmented with the new chapter about coupled flow-structural mechanical systems. Thereby, the discussion of computational aeroacoustics is extended towards perturbation approaches, which allows a decomposition of flow and acoustic quantities within the flow region. Last but not least, applications are updated and restructured so that the book meets modern demands.
