Download or read book Finite Element Analysis of the Femoral Head written by Ghandikota Ramamurthy and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Femoral component loosening and Prosthetic stem fractures have renewed interest in conservative alternatives to conventional total hip replacements. One such alternative is the concept of surface replacement. The objective in this study is a finite element analysis of a femoral surface replacement cup with Particular attention given to the interfacial stresses. An axisymmetric model with a grid of two-dimensional isoparametric elements is generated. This study utilizes an adaptive model so as to include the effect of bone remodeling in response to stress. The stiffness is considered to be linearly proportional to the stress in the femoral head and neck. Isotropic properties are chosen. The stresses are determined by performing iterative finite element analyses based upon an appropriate variation of the stiffness property in each analysis until the results obtained are within the convergence limit. Plots of stress contours in the femoral head are obtained for the loads acting on the joint during walking.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This major two-volume reference provides comprehensive coverage of the evaluation and surgical management of problems of the hip. It begins with a thorough review of clinically relevant basic science, including the anatomy and biomechanics of the hip, the biomaterials used in hip reconstruction, the sequelae of wear, and the biology of bone autografts and allografts. A section on clinical science covers the clinical and radiological evaluation of the hip, the pathology of the hip, osteonecrosis of the hip and related disorders, perioperative considerations, surgical anatomy, and surgical approaches to the hip. Subsequent sections provide complete information on all current surgical procedures, including arthroscopy, resection arthroplasty, arthrodesis, osteotomy, total hip arthroplasty, complex total hip arthroplasty, procedures for the treatment of sepsis, and revision total hip arthroplasty. Complementing the text are more than 1,300 full-color and black-and-white illustrations, including drawings by a noted medical illustrator. This book was released on 2008-07-30 with total page 950 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is with great pleasure that we present to you a collection of over 200 high quality technical papers from more than 10 countries that were presented at the Biomed 2008. The papers cover almost every aspect of Biomedical Engineering, from artificial intelligence to biomechanics, from medical informatics to tissue engineering. They also come from almost all parts of the globe, from America to Europe, from the Middle East to the Asia-Pacific. This set of papers presents to you the current research work being carried out in various disciplines of Biomedical En- neering, including new and innovative researches in emerging areas. As the organizers of Biomed 2008, we are very proud to be able to come-up with this publication. We owe the success to many individuals who worked very hard to achieve this: members of the Technical Committee, the Editors, and the Inter- tional Advisory Committee. We would like to take this opportunity to record our thanks and appreciation to each and every one of them. We are pretty sure that you will find many of the papers illuminating and useful for your own research and study. We hope that you will enjoy yourselves going through them as much as we had enjoyed compiling them into the proceedings. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noor Azuan Abu Osman Chairperson, Organising Committee, Biomed 2008
Book Synopsis The CORAIL® Hip System by : Jean-Pierre Vidalain
Download or read book The CORAIL® Hip System written by Jean-Pierre Vidalain and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-06 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Corail® Hip System was developed in 1986 as an innovative solution for hip arthroplasty and has since become one of the most used hip systems in the world. This book is designed as a practical manual to primary and revision arthroplasty that will serve both as a reference for surgeons in training and as a source of information, tips and tricks for the more experienced who wish to learn from the cases of other surgeons. The book is divided into three main parts. The first discusses everything that is practical about the system, including the surgical technique, treatment of complications, and the results achieved in large cohorts of patients. The second part is devoted to the important issues of surgical approach, bearing options, acetabular preparation and, cup orientation and fixation. The final part focuses on patient management and includes a collection of standard and complex clinical cases to which surgeons can refer when planning surgery.

Book Synopsis Low Friction Arthroplasty of the Hip by : J. Charnley
Download or read book Low Friction Arthroplasty of the Hip written by J. Charnley and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theme of this work is the application of the engmeermg theory of frictional torque to total hip replacement. The author adhered tenaciously to this theory, involving the use of a small-diameter femoral head, throughout the epoch when the large-diame ter, metal-to-metal design dominated the field. During that considerable period general satisfaction with the early results rendered criticisms of the large-diameter head unwelcome. There was a formidable array of counter criticism: the small head would pierce a film of synovial fluid; the small head would wear the socket too rapidly; the small head would always have a high risk of dislocation; detachment of the trochanter, to achieve precise orientation for the small head, was unacceptable. But all these objections have now been largely overcome. Lubrication of high molecular weight polyethylene (HMWP) on metal is now accepted as being mainly by the boundary regime with thick fluid films playing no part. We now know that HMWP can indeed tolerate the very high stresses imposed by the small head and in tribological theory there may even be some advantage in high stress. Dislocation is now known not to be an automatic sequel to the small head.
