In 1993, Modern Drummer magazine named it one of the top 25 drumming books of all-time. In the words of the author, this is the ideal book for improving "control, speed, flexibility, touch, rhythm, lightness, delicacy, power, endurance, preciseness of execution, and muscular coordination," with extra attention given to the development of the weak hand. This indispensable book for drummers of all types includes hundreds of basic to advanced rhythms and moves through categories of single-beat combinations, triplets, short roll combinations, flam beats, flam triplets and dotted notes, and short roll progressions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are fifty-nine muscles in each arm, including the hand, which the Musician is called upon to use in his playing. If each of these are trained to the proper degree, the heaviest part of the task is accomplished, for not only does the control thus derived perfect technic and touch, it also helps to overcome nervousness, develops a velvety touch, becomes an invaluable aid to sight reading, and assists the student in gaining the power to accompany sympathetically and accurately at sight. It is not necessary to exercise each of these muscles separately. By careful study, the method of AUTOMATIC FINGER CONTROL has been reduced to twenty-four weeks’ work. The exercises should be practiced the required number of times twice daily, preferably upon arising in the morning, and again in the evening. Each movement must be brisk, and as complete a contraction of the muscles involved as possible. Perform the work with one hand at a time rather than trying to use both hands at once. Close mental attention to the movement involved will increase the benefits derived, especially in the case of those exercises which require that you set one muscle working in opposition to another. Do not, in your enthusiasm, practice these exercises more than directed, nor should you do them just before your work at the instrument. This Course comprises 31 exercises. As you will see from the lessons, it is not enough that each exercise be practiced a single week. Sometimes you will be required to work on a single exercise for two weeks in succession and from time to time the exercises will be reviewed. The 31 exercises have been collected and placed in numerical order at the back of the manuscript. The lessons are found in order at the front. At the bottom of each lesson page the exercises for the week are delegated. After you have studied your lesson sheet, turn to the exercises required, for the week’s work, study them carefully and practice faithfully. Do not, under any circumstance, run ahead of your course. To get quick results, you must practice the exercises in the order given, devoting at least a week’s time to each lesson. If you are just starting to learn your instrument, complete the first two lessons in AUTOMATIC FINGER CONTROL before you take up the practice on the instrument. Then take up the first instrumental lesson and do it in conjunction with Lesson Three of AUTOMATIC FINGER CONTROL. Always bear in mind that the main idea of this course is not the strength of the fingers, nor even their suppleness. The main idea is coordination between brain and muscle, training the muscles so as to overcome the tendency of the fingers to move more slowly than the mind. Therefore, give your entire thought and undivided attention to what you are doing as you practice the daily exercises. If you will do this, your progress will be rapid and sure

Book excerpt: Fresh, funny, and fearless, The Middle Finger Project is a point-by-point primer on how to get unstuck, slay imposter syndrome, trust in your own worth and ability, and become a strong, capable, wonderful, weird, brilliant, ballsy, unfuckwithable YOU. "Don't worry, this isn't a book about God, nor is it a book about Ryan Gosling (second in command). But it is a book about authority and becoming your own." --Ash Ambirge After a string of dead-end jobs and a death in the family, Ash Ambirge was down to her last $26 and sleeping in a Kmart parking lot when she faced the truth: No one was coming to her rescue. It was up to her to appoint herself. That night led to what eventually became a six-figure freelance career as a sought-after marketing and copywriting consultant, all while sipping coffee from her front porch in Costa Rica. She then launched The Middle Finger Project, a blog and online course hub, which has provided tens of thousands of young "women who disobey" with the tools and mindset to give everyone else's expectations the finger and get on your own path to happiness, wealth, independence, and adventure. In her first book, Ash draws on her unconventional personal story to offer a fun, bracing, and occasionally potty-mouthed manifesto for the transformative power of radical self-reliance. Employing the signature wit and wordsmithing she's used to build an avid following, she offers paradigm-shifting advice along the lines of: • The best feeling in the world is knowing who you are and what you're capable of doing. • Life circumstances are not life sentences. If a Scranton girl who grew up in a trailer park can make it, so can you. • What you believe about yourself will either murder your chances or save your life. So why not believe something good? • You don't need a high-ranking job title to be authorized to contribute. You just need to contribute. • Be your own authority. Authority only works as long as you trust that someone smarter than you is making the rules. • The way you become a force is by being the most radically real version of yourself that you can be. • You only have 12 fucks a day to give, so use them wisely.

A revolution of basketball fundamental skills is needed, and now it is feasible with a break-through techniqueThree-Finger Zen, Universal Ball-Handling Mechanism. In 2010, after five-year dedicated research and praxis, Xiaoxing Chen discovered Three- Finger-Zen (3fz), a nature mechanism of human hand and arm for handling the basketball. It benefits every participant of the sport, and has technical capabilities to revolutionize basketball for a perfect game. Chen built his theories and praxes of how basketball should work in 3fz with its unique features: Integrates all basketball offense skills as one simple mechanism. Enables unchallengeable shooting with exceptional accuracy. Improves players athletic abilities and prevent passive injuries. Enhances physical and mental development of children. Sparks logic and artistic intelligence in youths and adults. Promotes physical and mental health of the general public. Distinctive from conventional basketball skills, 3fz applies the last three fingersmiddle finger, ring finger and pinkyto handle and control the ball. In this method, the ring finger plays a command-and-control role in the ball-handling processes of dribbling, passing, and shooting. The technique is easy to learn when you understand the 3fz mechanism and follow the training instructions. In this book, Chen reveals the steps to 3fz basketball revolution and teaches you how to be the best basketball player you can be.

Book excerpt: This practical book offers an extensive examination of how manual therapy (MT) techniques work, and how to match the most suitable techniques to different conditions. Drawing on evidence-based research, it explores the physiological, neurological and psychophysiological responses of the human body to MT techniques. In doing so, it helps MT practitioners deliver a more effective and safer treatment for a broader range of conditions. Comprehensive overview helps provide an understanding of how and why MT techniques work. Content is written in jargon-free, easy-to-read style, with most terms explained. Text is enhanced by over 120 diagrams, photographs and tables. Manual pain relief is extensively discussed throughout the book. Section 1 examines the direct effects of manual therapy on connective tissue and muscle physiology, examining how MT can help assist repair and adaptation processes in these tissues. Section 2 examines the effect of MT on the neuromuscular system, identifying conditions where neuromuscular dysfunctions can be treated by MT. Section 3 examines the psychological, emotional and behavioral impacts of MT, in addition to the psychophysiological affects of MT, including psychomotor, neuroendocrine, and autonomic responses. More than 1,000 references relevant to manual therapy are included, making this an essential source book for students and researchers of MT. Content is completely rewritten, extensively updated and expanded, adding new research material, novel clinical approaches, and demonstrations of new techniques and assessments. Pain coverage is expanded. More information is included on the responses of muscle to mechanical stimuli when applying MT techniques.
