Book Synopsis Local Fiscal Effects of Illegal Immigration by : National Research Council
Download or read book Local Fiscal Effects of Illegal Immigration written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1996-11-25 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent level of illegal immigration to the United States has increased debates about the effect of these immigrants on the cost of public services, and states have begun to enact policies that limit the public services available to illegal immigrants. The central issues are how many illegal immigrants reside in particular local areas and states and their effect on public expenditures and revenues and the economy in general. The Local Fiscal Effects of Illegal Immigration workshop selected six studies for analysis. The six case studies focused on one specific aspect of the complex question of the demographic, economic, and social effects of immigration: the net public services costs of illegal immigrants to selected geographical regions.

Identify a group whose members tend to agree on political issues--liberals, conservatives, isolationists, internationalists, environmentalists, free marketers--and one will tend to find that within the group there is no strong majority opinion about US immigration policy. This important new book examines how public finance shapes individual preferences towards immigration policy in the United States.
Book Synopsis Open Borders Inc. by : Michelle Malkin
Download or read book Open Borders Inc. written by Michelle Malkin and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2019-09-10 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Follow the money, find the truth. That’s Michelle Malkin’s journalistic mantra, and in her stunning new book, Open Borders Inc., she puts it to work with a shocking, comprehensive exposé of who’s behind our immigration crisis. In the name of compassion—but driven by financial profit—globalist elites, Silicon Valley, and the radical Left are conspiring to undo the rule of law, subvert our homeland security, shut down free speech, and make gobs of money off the backs of illegal aliens, refugees, and low-wage guest workers. Politicians want cheap votes or cheap labor. Church leaders want pew-fillers and collection plate donors. Social justice militants, working with corporate America, want to silence free speech they deem “hateful,” while raking in tens of millions of dollars promoting mass, uncontrolled immigration both legal and illegal. Malkin names names—from Pope Francis to George Clooney, from George Soros to the Koch brothers, from Jack Dorsey to Tim Cook and Mark Zuckerberg. Enlightening as it is infuriating, Open Borders Inc. reveals the powerful forces working to erase America.

Book Synopsis The New Americans by : National Research Council
Download or read book The New Americans written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1997-11-14 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book sheds light on one of the most controversial issues of the decade. It identifies the economic gains and losses from immigrationâ€"for the nation, states, and local areasâ€"and provides a foundation for public discussion and policymaking. Three key questions are explored: What is the influence of immigration on the overall economy, especially national and regional labor markets? What are the overall effects of immigration on federal, state, and local government budgets? What effects will immigration have on the future size and makeup of the nation's population over the next 50 years? The New Americans examines what immigrants gain by coming to the United States and what they contribute to the country, the skills of immigrants and those of native-born Americans, the experiences of immigrant women and other groups, and much more. It offers examples of how to measure the impact of immigration on government revenues and expendituresâ€"estimating one year's fiscal impact in California, New Jersey, and the United States and projecting the long-run fiscal effects on government revenues and expenditures. Also included is background information on immigration policies and practices and data on where immigrants come from, what they do in America, and how they will change the nation's social fabric in the decades to come.
Book Synopsis Managing Illegal Immigration to the United States by : Bryan Roberts
Download or read book Managing Illegal Immigration to the United States written by Bryan Roberts and published by Council on Foreign Relations. This book was released on 2013-05-01 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors examine U.S. efforts to prevent illegal immigration to the United States. Although the United States has witnessed a sharp drop in illegal border crossings in the past decade alongside an enormous increase in government activities to prevent illegal immigration, there remains little understanding of the role enforcement has played. Better data and analyses to assist lawmakers in crafting more successful policies and to support administration officials in implementing these policies are long overdue.
Book Synopsis Illegal Aliens by : United States. General Accounting Office
Download or read book Illegal Aliens written by United States. General Accounting Office and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concerns about the financial burden of providing public benefits and services have prompted several states, including California, to sue the federal government for repayment of these costs. To help Congress evaluate California's request for federal reimbursement, GAO examined estimates of the fiscal impact of illegal aliens living in California. GAO examined estimates presented in the Governor of California's 1994-95 budget published in January 1994, the state's revised estimates published in September 1994, and estimates by Urban Institute researchers published in September 1994. This report (1) reviews the studies' cost estimates for elementary and secondary education, Medicaid benefits, and adult imprisonment; (2) reviews the studies' estimates of revenues attributable to illegal aliens; and (3) summarizes current federal efforts to improve estimates of the public fiscal impact of illegal aliens. GAO concludes that the credibility of such estimates is likely to be a persistent issue, given the limited data available on the population of illegal aliens and differences in key assumptions and methodologies used to develop the estimates. For example, the studies differed in their treatment of capital costs, the age groups they used to estimate education costs, and their methodologies for projecting revenues.
