Book Synopsis La financiación ilegal de partidos políticos by : Maroto Calatayud, Manuel
Download or read book La financiación ilegal de partidos políticos written by Maroto Calatayud, Manuel and published by Marcial Pons. This book was released on 2015-06-02 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Political Corruption and Organizational Crime by : Elizangela Valarini
Download or read book Political Corruption and Organizational Crime written by Elizangela Valarini and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-10-01 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Level of compliance - one of the most important prerequisites of good governance - varies widely across countries of the Global North and the less developed, Global South. Acts of non-compliance, such as electoral irregularities, dubious deals between private and public sectors, questionable role of the justice systems and financial scandals, though they vary greatly across countries, are an omnipresent reality of contemporary life. This volume has brought together a number of case studies of such deviant behavior in political, juridical and corporate fields, from several countries of Asia, Europe and South America, within a common framework. Instead of a moral approach based exclusively on the legality and illegality of the act, the authors of these essays dissect non-compliance analytically, taking culture and context into account. They argue that, while criminal and corrupt dealings deserve to be exposed by all means from an ethical point of view, seen from an interdisciplinary angle, one needs to probe deeper into the dynamic that leads to such non-compliance with the law in the first place.

Book Synopsis Rule of Law, Human Rights and Judicial Control of Power by : Rainer Arnold
Download or read book Rule of Law, Human Rights and Judicial Control of Power written by Rainer Arnold and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-05-16 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Judicial control of public power ensures a guarantee of the rule of law. This book addresses the scope and limits of judicial control at the national level, i.e. the control of public authorities, and at the supranational level, i.e. the control of States. It explores the risk of judicial review leading to judicial activism that can threaten the principle of the separation of powers or the legitimate exercise of state powers. It analyzes how national and supranational legal systems have embodied certain mechanisms, such as the principles of reasonableness, proportionality, deference and margin of appreciation, as well as the horizontal effects of human rights that help to determine how far a judge can go. Taking a theoretical and comparative view, the book first examines the conceptual bases of the various control systems and then studies the models, structural elements, and functions of the control instruments in selected countries and regions. It uses country and regional reports as the basis for the comparison of the convergences and divergences of the implementation of control in certain countries of Europe, Latin America, and Africa. The book’s theoretical reflections and comparative investigations provide answers to important questions, such as whether or not there are nascent universal principles concerning the control of public power, how strong the impact of particular legal traditions is, and to what extent international law concepts have had harmonizing and strengthening effects on internal public-power control.
Book Synopsis Political Corruption by : Arnold J. Heidenheimer
Download or read book Political Corruption written by Arnold J. Heidenheimer and published by Transaction Publishers. This book was released on 2011-12-31 with total page 987 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corruption is once again high on the international policy agenda as a result of globalization, the spread of democracy, and major scandals and reform initiatives. But the concept itself has been a focus for social scientists for many years, and new findings and data take on richer meanings when viewed in the context of long-term developments and enduring conceptual debates. This compendium, a much-enriched version of a work that has been a standard reference in the field since 1970, offers concepts, cases, and fresh evidence for comparative analysis. Building on a nucleus of classic studies laying out the nature and development of the concept of corruption, the book also incorporates recent work on economic, cultural, and linguistic dimensions of the problem, as well as critical analyses of several approaches to reform. While many authors are political scientists, work by historians, economists, and sociologists are strongly represented. Two-thirds of the nearly fifty articles are based either on studies especially written or translated for this volume, or on selected journal literature published in the 1990s. The tendency to treat corruption as merely a synonym for bribery is illuminated by analyses of the diverse terminology and linguistic techniques that help distinguish corruption problems in the major languages. Recent attempts to measure corruption, and to analyze its causes and effects quantitatively are also critically examined. New contributions emphasize especially: corruption phenomena in Asia and Africa; contrasts among region and regime types; comparing U.S. state corruption incidence; European Party finance and corruption; assessments of international corruption rating project; analyses of international corruption control treaties; unintended consequences of anti-corruption efforts. Cumulatively, the book combines description richness, analytical thrust, conceptual awareness, and contextual articulation.
Book Synopsis The Politics of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Latin America by : Joseph Pozsgai-Alvarez
Download or read book The Politics of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Latin America written by Joseph Pozsgai-Alvarez and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-29 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the history, development, and current state of anti-corruption agencies in Latin America. In recent decades, specialized anti-corruption agencies have sprung up as countries seek to respond to corruption and to counter administrative and political challenges. However, the characteristics, resources, power, and performance of these agencies reflect the political and economic environment in which they operate. This book draws on a range of case studies from across Latin America, considering both national anti-corruption bodies and agencies created and administered by, or in close coordination with, international organizations. Together, these stories demonstrate the importance of the political will of reformers, the private interests of key actors, the organizational space of other agencies, the position of advocacy groups, and the level of support from the public at large. This book will be a key resource for researchers across political science, corruption studies, development, and Latin American Studies. It will also be a valuable guide for policy makers and professionals in NGOs and international organizations working on anti-corruption advocacy and policy advice.

Book Synopsis Encyclopedia Corruption in the World by : Judivan J. Vieira
Download or read book Encyclopedia Corruption in the World written by Judivan J. Vieira and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-04-10 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The publication of this book collection by Prof. Judivan J. Vieira, PhD, is driven more by mission than editorial pursuits. The research is composed by five volumes, and it is the result of the authors willful work in a field of study that has been his passion since his graduation in law school in 1993. Corruption is inherent to the human being, and according to the author, it is a metastatic cancer within the rights of a democratic society. Throughout the five volumes, Judivan Vieira analyzes the various perspectives of this disease that delays and wipes out nonhegemonic countries and threatens developed countries. In the last volume of the collection, the author offers the solution to remediate this disease of the soul, which prevents social well-being and relegates us to live in formal democracies.
