Book Synopsis The Muslim Reality in India by : Ishtiyaque Danish
Download or read book The Muslim Reality in India written by Ishtiyaque Danish and published by Kojo Press. This book was released on 2016-06-08 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Muslim Reality in India is a collection of articles dealing with several aspects of Muslim presence in post-independence India. This edited volume highlights not only the problems the Muslim community is confronted with, but also shows the way ahead. The most obvious and visible reality in India is its pluralistic and composite culture. Every multicultural society is a unique experience; it creates and solves problems. The book in your hand has discussed it very well. Indian Muslims feel marginalized politically, economically and socially. Their educational status is pathetic, to say the least. But what has been frightening the Muslims the most is the frequent outbreak of communal violence. There is also the lurking danger of uniform civil code which has the potential to violently polarize the country along communal lines. Similarly wide- spread discrimination, and in some cases social exclusion are also important problems. There are internal as well as external reasons behind the problems mentioned above. The Muslim Reality in India is an attempt to analyse the problems objectively and find out viable solutions to them. Like the causes of the problems, the solutions, too, are both internal and external. The Muslim Reality in India is thus an objective analysis as well as approach to solve the problems of the largest minority in the country.

Download or read book Ancient Rights and Future Comfort written by Peter G. Robb and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses the character of British rule in nineteenth-century India, by focusing on the underlying ideas and the practical repercussions of agrarian policy. It argues that the great rent law debate and the Bengal Tenancy Act of 1885 helped constitute a revolution in the effective aims of government and in the colonial ability to interfere in India, but that they did so alongside a continuing weakness of understanding and in effective local control. In particular, the book considers the importance of notions of historical rights and economic progress to the false categorisations made of agrarian structure. It shows that the Tenancy Act helped to widen social disparities in rural Bihar, and to create political interests on the land.

Download or read book Bazaar India written by Anand A. Yang and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 1999-02-01 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The role of markets in linking local communities to larger networks of commerce, culture, and political power is the central element in Anand A. Yang's provocative and original study. Yang uses bazaars in the northeast Indian state of Bihar during the colonial period as the site of his investigation. The bazaar provides a distinctive locale for posing fundamental questions regarding indigenous societies under colonialism and for highlighting less familiar aspects of colonial India. At one level, Yang reconstructs Bihar's marketing system, from its central place in the city of Patna down to the lowest rung of the periodic markets. But he also concentrates on the dynamics of exchanges and negotiations between different groups and on what can be learned through the "voices" of people in the bazaar: landholders, peasants, traders, and merchants. Along the way, Yang uncovers a wealth of details on the functioning of rural trade, markets, fairs, and pilgrimages in Bihar. A key contribution of Bazaar India is its many-stranded narrative history of some of South Asia's primary actors over the past two centuries. But Yang's approach is not that of a detached observer; rather, his own voice is engaged with the voices of the past and with present-day historians. By focusing on the world beyond the mud walls of the village, he widens the imaginative geography of South Asian history. Readers with an interest in markets, social history, culture, colonialism, British India, and historiographic methods will welcome his book.
