Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work provides indispensable access to an intricate and complex network of legal rules on extradition found in multilateral treaties and conventions, with specific emphasis on extradition in the Americas. It covers the historical development of the multilateral approach and presents a survey of the steps taken and work accomplished by organs of the Organization of American States with respect to updating the multilateral rules on extradition within the inter-American system. The analysis covers provisions of multilateral conventions of worldwide scope whose purposes are to prevent or repress specific categories of offences and compares the Inter-American Convention on Extradition with other multilateral treaties and conventions on that matter. The materials compiled in this volume give a welcome insight in the codification of law and constitute a fundamental tool for judicial cooperation in the Inter-American context.

Book Synopsis Alternative Approaches to Human Rights by : Christopher Roberts
Download or read book Alternative Approaches to Human Rights written by Christopher Roberts and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2022-11-24 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the comparative historical evolution of the European, Inter-American and African regional human rights systems. The book devotes attention to various factors that have shaped the systems: the different circumstances in which they were founded; the influence of major states and inter-state politics within their respective regions; gradual processes of institutional evolution; and the impact of human rights advocates and claimants. Throughout, the book devotes careful attention to the impact of institutional and procedural choices on the functioning of human rights systems. Overarchingly, the book explores the contextually-generated differences between the three systems, suggesting that human rights practice is less unitary than it might at times appear. Prescriptively, the book proposes that, contrary to the received wisdom in some quarters, the Inter-American system's dual-track approach may provide the most promising model in regards to future human rights system design.
Book Synopsis The Right to a Fair Trial under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights by : David Weissbrodt
Download or read book The Right to a Fair Trial under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights written by David Weissbrodt and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-11-15 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights have established the right to a fair trial as an internationally recognized human rights norm. This volume examines the origins of the right to a fair trial as articulated in the Universal Declaration and the Covenant. The right to a fair trial has been the subject of more interpretation and adjudication than other rights in the Covenant. Accordingly, the book analyzes the fair trial jurisprudence of the Human Rights Committee under the Covenant. The book also explores the process by which some aspects of the right to a fair trial have gradually been considered non-derogable, that is, not subject to suspension even in times of public emergency. This volume should provide a convenient tool for human rights advocates, judges, lawyers, scholars, and others involved with and interested in the right to a fair trial. This book is the first volume in The Universal Declaration of Human Rights Series. The Series will consist of approximately 20 volumes, each dealing with a substantive right (or group of rights) set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Each volume is authored by an expert in human rights generally and in the particular subject addressed. Without losing sight of the political context in which the implementation of human rights must occur, each book provides a comprehensive, legally-oriented analysis of the rights concerned, including an examination of the legislative history of the text of each right as adopted in 1948, the right's subsequent articulation and interpretation by international bodies and in subsequent international instruments, and a survey of state practice in defining and enforcing the right.
