Book excerpt: The 2002 issue of the Yearbook concerns the notion of reasonableness in philosohical, legal and economic domains. After going back over the main definition of the concept of reasonable in greek philosophy, the analysis carried out in this volume deals with the role played by the notion of reasonableness in practical philosophy and namely according to hermeneutical view of it. With regard to legal field, the notion of reasonableness is a core notion in constitutional law and it assumes specific meanings in private, criminal, international, and administrative law. Reasonableness turns out to be crucial with regard to many topics, such as interpretation of rights, balancing of fundamental rights, and interpretation of standards.

Book excerpt: This interdisciplinary collection investigates the relations between translation and different forms and systems of censorship that were operating in nineteenth-century Europe. The volume presents and discusses broadly the research findings of translation studies scholars from a total of nine countries. Contributors have studied not only the apparati of power that enforce censorship but also the symbolic dimension that as well as being inherent to systems is also an explicit activity on the part of decision makers. The nineteenth century has been very neglected in studies of translation censorship to date. This volume addresses this gap in research, showing how discourse was filtered by official and unofficial censorship mechanisms against a background of massive political and technological change. The volume brings together eleven essays on censorship of literature, philosophy and the press in Austro-Hungary, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Portugal, Russia and Spain. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. In recent decades, metaphor has become a respectable and central theme in philosophy. In his critical philosophy, Kant treats this theme in terms of the notions of analogy and symbolization. In addition to contributing significantly to the development of our understanding of the role played by images, metaphors and symbols in both theoretical and practical issues, Kant is also widely recognized as a great creator of metaphors in his own right. Symbols, analogies and aesthetic ideas are undeniably metaphorical processes, which fulfill a function in Kant’s philosophical language that is as fundamental as it is systematic. This collected volume is the result of a recent initiative on the part of an international group of Kantian philosophers and scholars to promote research on topics that have yet to be thoroughly explored in academic research. This is certainly true of the topic of metaphor in Kant’s philosophy, to which the present volume is devoted.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection highlights the importance of Kant’s shorter writings, which span the entire intellectual career of this seminal thinker. It contrasts with other philosophical studies of Kant’s work, which typically focus on a specific period of his career, and on either his theoretical philosophy or his practical philosophy. These shorter works offer a framework for understanding several central questions of critical philosophy in the context of Kant’s complete corpus of writings. As such, this volume provides a ground-breaking approach to contemporary Kant studies by offering a new interpretive perspective to enable Kant scholars to advance their research projects. At the same time, it allows a general overview of Kant’s work for a broader non-scholarly audience interested in his critical philosophy and its context.

This book was released on 2017-05-15 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although Kierkegaard's reception was initially more or less limited to Scandinavia, it has for a long time now been a highly international affair. As his writings were translated into different languages his reputation spread, and he became read more and more by people increasingly distant from his native Denmark. While in Scandinavia, the attack on the Church in the last years of his life became something of a cause célèbre, later, many different aspects of his work became the object of serious scholarly investigation well beyond the original northern borders. As his reputation grew, he was co-opted by a number of different philosophical and religious movements in different contexts throughout the world. The three tomes of this volume attempt to record the history of this reception according to national and linguistic categories. Tome III is the most geographically diverse, covering the Near East, Asia, Australia and the Americas. The section on the Near East features pioneering articles on the Kierkegaard reception in Israel, Turkey, Iran and the Arab world. The next section dubbed 'Asia and Australia' features articles on the long and rich traditions of Kierkegaard research in Japan and Korea along with the more recent ones in China and Australia. A final section is dedicated to Americas with articles on Canada, the United States, hispanophone South America, Mexico and Brazil.

This book was released on 2012-10 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
