Book Synopsis Automated Machine Learning by : Frank Hutter
Download or read book Automated Machine Learning written by Frank Hutter and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-05-17 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book presents the first comprehensive overview of general methods in Automated Machine Learning (AutoML), collects descriptions of existing systems based on these methods, and discusses the first series of international challenges of AutoML systems. The recent success of commercial ML applications and the rapid growth of the field has created a high demand for off-the-shelf ML methods that can be used easily and without expert knowledge. However, many of the recent machine learning successes crucially rely on human experts, who manually select appropriate ML architectures (deep learning architectures or more traditional ML workflows) and their hyperparameters. To overcome this problem, the field of AutoML targets a progressive automation of machine learning, based on principles from optimization and machine learning itself. This book serves as a point of entry into this quickly-developing field for researchers and advanced students alike, as well as providing a reference for practitioners aiming to use AutoML in their work.

Book Synopsis Fidelity & Constraint by : Lawrence Lessig
Download or read book Fidelity & Constraint written by Lawrence Lessig and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-04-03 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fundamental fact about our Constitution is that it is old -- the oldest written constitution in the world. The fundamental challenge for interpreters of the Constitution is how to read that old document over time. In Fidelity & Constraint, legal scholar Lawrence Lessig explains that one of the most basic approaches to interpreting the constitution is the process of translation. Indeed, some of the most significant shifts in constitutional doctrine are products of the evolution of the translation process over time. In every new era, judges understand their translations as instances of "interpretive fidelity," framed within each new temporal context. Yet, as Lessig also argues, there is a repeatedly occurring countermove that upends the process of translation. Throughout American history, there has been a second fidelity in addition to interpretive fidelity: what Lessig calls "fidelity to role." In each of the cycles of translation that he describes, the role of the judge -- the ultimate translator -- has evolved too. Old ways of interpreting the text now become illegitimate because they do not match up with the judge's perceived role. And when that conflict occurs, the practice of judges within our tradition has been to follow the guidance of a fidelity to role. Ultimately, Lessig not only shows us how important the concept of translation is to constitutional interpretation, but also exposes the institutional limits on this practice. The first work of both constitutional and foundational theory by one of America's leading legal minds, Fidelity & Constraint maps strategies that both help judges understand the fundamental conflict at the heart of interpretation whenever it arises and work around the limits it inevitably creates.

Book Synopsis Multi-fidelity Surrogates by : Qi Zhou
Download or read book Multi-fidelity Surrogates written by Qi Zhou and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-11-07 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates two types of static multi-fidelity surrogates modeling approaches, sequential multi-fidelity surrogates modeling approaches, the multi-fidelity surrogates-assisted efficient global optimization, reliability analysis, robust design optimization, and evolutionary optimization. Multi-fidelity surrogates have attracted a significant amount of attention in simulation-based design and optimization in recent years. Some real-life engineering design problems, such as prediction of angular distortion in the laser welding, optimization design of micro-aerial vehicle fuselage, and optimization design of metamaterial vibration isolator, are also provided to illustrate the ability and merits of multi-fidelity surrogates in support of engineering design. Specifically, lots of illustrative examples are adopted throughout the book to help explain the approaches in a more “hands-on” manner. This book is a useful reference for postgraduates and researchers of mechanical engineering, as well as engineers of enterprises in related fields.

Book Synopsis Criticism in Action by : Dena Goodman
Download or read book Criticism in Action written by Dena Goodman and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2019-05-15 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dena Goodman here offers a fresh explanation of how critical theory broke out of the mold of an earlier tradition of discourse—the mirror for princes genre—and shaped its own course in the eighteenth century. Criticism in Action provides a historical analysis of French Enlightenment texts as actions and as the focus of critical activity in which writers and their potential readers participate. Goodman approaches texts as forces that shape the thinking and acting of the individuals engaged in the act of reading and presents new interpretations of major Enlightenment texts by Montesquieu, Rousseau, and Diderot.

Book Synopsis Using Mobile Technologies in the Teaching and Learning of Mathematics by : Nigel Calder
Download or read book Using Mobile Technologies in the Teaching and Learning of Mathematics written by Nigel Calder and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-09 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mobile technologies influence the way that we interact with the world, the way that we live. We use them for communication, entertainment, information and research. In education settings, there has been substantial investment in mobile devices, often without a concomitant investment in developing pedagogy and practices. With mobile technologies evolving rapidly, and the number of educational apps growing, there is a need for research into how they facilitate mathematics learning. Such research is of particular importance regarding how such devices may be used to open up new ways of envisaging mathematics and mathematics education, and to help develop conceptual rather than procedural or declarative knowledge. This volume draws upon international research and reports on a range of research projects that have incorporated mobile technologies for mathematics education. It presents research on the use of mobile technologies, such as iPads, iPods, iPhones, Androids, and Tablets, across a diverse range of cultures, year levels and contexts. It examines the ways in which mobile technologies, including apps, might influence students’ engagement, cognition, collaboration and attitudes, through the reshaping of the learning experience. In addition, the book presents appropriate ways to integrate mobile technologies into teaching and learning programmes. It is a significant reference book for those involved with teaching mathematics or using mobile technologies in education, while also offering insights and examples that are applicable to the use of digital technologies in education generally.
