Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the realm of biblical scholarship, few names evoke as much controversy and debate as Bart Ehrman. Renowned for his critical analysis of the Bible and early Christian texts, Ehrman's work has challenged fundamental beliefs held dear by many within the Christian faith. In this comprehensive volume, we embark on a journey to dissect and scrutinize the assertions put forth by Bart Ehrman, with the aim of offering a robust Christian response. Each chapter of this book delves into a specific aspect of Ehrman's scholarship, meticulously examining his claims and arguments. From factual inaccuracies and logical fallacies to epistemological errors and methodological limitations, no stone is left unturned in our quest to uncover the truth. We begin by scrutinizing the factual errors that pervade Ehrman's work, followed by an exploration of the logical contradictions and fallacies inherent in his arguments. Moving forward, we delve into the epistemological foundations of Ehrman's scholarship, shedding light on the cognitive biases that may influence his interpretations. As we progress through the chapters, we confront Ehrman's assertions with the litmus tests of coherence and correspondence, evaluating the internal and external consistency of his arguments. We also explore the methodological constraints that shape Ehrman's approach to biblical studies and examine the implications of his errors on broader scholarly discourse. Furthermore, we delve into Ehrman's debates with prominent Christian apologists such as Dinesh D'Souza and William Lane Craig, analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of his arguments in these confrontations. Additionally, we address the emotional objections raised by Ehrman and provide a philosophical framework for understanding faith in God amidst suffering. Throughout this journey, we highlight the importance of personal experience and revelation in faith, contrasting Ehrman's scholarly approach with the biblical understanding of faith as a gift from God. Moreover, we scrutinize the financial motivations that may influence Ehrman's critique of Christianity and evaluate whether his approach represents genuine scholarship or sensationalism.

Book excerpt: Selena Axelrod Winsnes has been engaged, since 1982, in the translation into English, and editing of Danish language sources to West African history, sources published from 1697 to 1822, the period during which Denmark-Norway was an actor in the Transatlantic Slave Trade. It comprises five major books written for the Scandinavian public. They describe all aspects of life on the Gold Coast [Ghana], the Middle Passage and the Danish Caribbean islands [US Virgin Islands], as seen by five different men. Each had his own agenda and mind-set, and the books, both singly and combined, hold a wealth of information - of interest both to scholars and lay readers. They provide important insights into the cultural baggage the enslaved Africans carried with them to the America's. One of the books, L.F.R¯mer's A Reliable Account of the Coast of Guinea was runner-up for the prestigious international texts prize awarded by the U.S. African Studies Association. Selena Winsnes lived in Ghana for five years and studied at the University of Ghana, Legon. Her mother tongue is English; and, working free-lance, she resides premanently in Norway with her husband, four children and eight grandchildren. In 2008, she was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters for distinguished scholarship by the University of Ghana, Legon

Book excerpt: This is the ethnography of the Mykoniots d'élection, a 'gang' of romantic adventurers who have been visiting the island of Mykonos for the last thirty-five years and have formed a community of dispersed friends. Their constant return to and insistence on working, acting and creating in a tourist space, offers them an extreme identity, which in turn is aesthetically marked by the transient cultural properties of Mykonos. Drawing semiotically from its ancient counterpart Delos, whose myth of emergence entails a spatial restlessness, contemporary Mykonos also acquires an idiosyncratic fluidity. In mythology Delos, the island of Apollo, was condemned by the gods to be an island in constant movement. Mykonos, as a signifier of a new form of ontological nomadism, semiotically shares such assumptions. The Nomads of Mykonos keep returning to a series of alternative affective groups largely in order to heal a split: between their desire for autonomy, rebellion and aloneness and their need to affectively belong to a collectivity. Mykonos for the Mykoniots d'élection is their permanent 'stopover'; their regular comings and goings discursively project onto Mykonos' space an allegorical (discordant) notion of 'home'.
