Download or read book Feral Tracks written by Euan Mitchell and published by OverDog Press. This book was released on 2015-02-03 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Feral Tracks is based on the true story of a sixteen-year-old schoolboy who ran away from home with four dollars and hitchhiked around Australia. Daniel's exploits are a roller-coaster ride through a wild summer off the leash, the madness of share-house living, outback mustering of feral cattle, and nightclub excess. Told with driving energy, blunt honesty and dry humor, Feral Tracks shows why survival on the road means growing up fast. "Mitchell's debut novel is stunning in its breadth of locations, vibrant characterizations and intelligent handling of contemporary issues ... this is an impressive, clever and entirely satisfying book." Viewpoint "The male version of Puberty Blues." ABC Radio "The energy behind Feral Tracks comes from Mitchell's ability to take a year's worth of adventures, spanning the entire country, and to weave them into a fast-moving and engrossing story." Courier Mail "Despite the tribulations of survival on the road, Mitchell's alter-ego is articulate, intelligent and, most importantly, resourceful." The Age "Succeeds on all fronts." Sydney Morning Herald

Book excerpt: A novel based on the true story of a sixteen-year-old schoolboy who ran away from home with four dollars and hitchhiked around Australia. Daniel's exploits are a roller-coaster ride through a wild summer 'off the leash', the madness of share-house living, outback mustering of feral cattle, and nightclub excess. Told with driving energy, blunt honesty and dry humour, Feral Tracks shows why survival on the road means growing up fast. The National Library of Australia regards this adaptation as a first edition not a revised edition because it has been completely rewritten (line by line) although the storyline is similar. The addition of the subtitle (which appears on the title page and CiP data but not on the cover) makes the new version bibliographically unique. The first prelim page explains the evolution of the story for those interested. Feral Tracks captivated teenagers when first released in 1998, including reluctant male readers. It was short-listed for a readers' choice award and optioned for a feature film. The screenplay was created in 2002 and, although not produced as a movie, inspired this newly rewritten version of the story. Feral Tracks: the novel adapted from the screenplay has transformed the travelogue style of the first publication into a more tightly structured story format for a fresh readership. Vulgar Press is supporting its publication of the novel with free Study Notes, downloadable from vulgar.com.au, due to the story's popularity with Years 10 and 11 English classes in Australia, New Zealand and the UK.
Download or read book Feral written by George Monbiot and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2014-09-26 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As an investigative journalist, Monbiot found a mission in his ecological boredom, that of learning what it might take to impose a greater state of harmony between himself and nature. He was not one to romanticize undisturbed, primal landscapes, but rather in his attempts to satisfy his cravings for a richer, more authentic life, he came stumbled into the world of restoration and rewilding. When these concepts were first introduced in 2011, very recently, they focused on releasing captive animals into the wild. Soon the definition expanded to describe the reintroduction of animal and plant species to habitats from which they had been excised. Some people began using it to mean the rehabilitation not just of particular species, but of entire ecosystems: a restoration of wilderness. Rewilding recognizes that nature consists not just of a collection of species but also of their ever-shifting relationships with each other and with the physical environment. Ecologists have shown how the dynamics within communities are affected by even the seemingly minor changes in species assemblages. Predators and large herbivores have transformed entire landscapes, from the nature of the soil to the flow of rivers, the chemistry of the oceans, and the composition of the atmosphere. The complexity of earth systems is seemingly boundless."

The scientific results presented do not only come from traditional mink producing countries, but also from countries with more recent developments in fur animal production. The scientific community in the field of fur animal production is small, but the biologic diversity and thus the need for scientifically based knowledge in this area is similar to, or often exceeds, that of other farm animals. In this book, the most diverse and recent advancements in fur animal production were brought together in order to provide a clear overview for all those involved in the fur animal industry.

Book Synopsis The Handbook of New Zealand Mammals by : Carolyn King
Download or read book The Handbook of New Zealand Mammals written by Carolyn King and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2021-01-20 with total page 577 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of New Zealand Mammals is the only definitive reference on all the land-breeding mammals recorded in the New Zealand region (including the New Zealand sector of Antarctica). It lists 65 species, including native and exotic, wild and feral, living and extinct, residents, vagrants and failed introductions. It describes their history, biology and ecology, and brings together comprehensive and detailed information gathered from widely scattered or previously unpublished sources. The description of each species is arranged under standardised headings for easy reference. Because the only native land-breeding mammals in New Zealand are bats and seals, the great majority of the modern mammal fauna comprises introduced species, whose arrival has had profound effects both for themselves and for the native fauna and flora. The book details changes in numbers and distribution for the native species, and for the arrivals it summarises changes in habitat, diet, numbers and size in comparison with their ancestral stocks, and some of the problems they present to resource managers. For this third edition, the text and references have been completely updated and reorganised into Family chapters. The colour section includes 14 pages of artwork showing all the species described and their main variations, plus two pages of maps.
