Book Synopsis Fatigue Behavior of Silicon Carbide Whisker/Aluminum Composite by : Eun E. Lee
Download or read book Fatigue Behavior of Silicon Carbide Whisker/Aluminum Composite written by Eun E. Lee and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Specimens of an extruded 19.8 vol % SiCw/2124 aluminum alloy composite were subjected to constant amplitude loading of stress ratio 0.1 at room temperature in a laboratory atmosphere. The fatigue crack growth path is tortuous and much of it is nearly parallel to the extrusion direction of the specimen. This is attributable to the SiCw aligned in the extrusion direction. The logarithm of fatigue fracture life, NF, increases linearly with decreasing stress range, within the limits of the applied stress range. The observed fractographic features are facets and steps in the initial stage, striations in the subsequent stage, and dimples in the final stage of fatigue. (JES).

Book Synopsis Composite Materials by : Krishan K. Cha
Download or read book Composite Materials written by Krishan K. Cha and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-05-03 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The third edition of Krishan Chawla's widely used textbook, Composite Materials, offers integrated and completely up-to-date coverage of composite materials. The book focuses on the triad of processing, structure, and properties, while providing a well-balanced treatment of the materials science and mechanics of composites. In this edition of Composite Materials, revised and updated throughout, increasing use of composites in industry (especially aerospace and energy) and new developments in the field are highlighted. There is a new chapter on non-conventional composites, which covers polymer, metal and ceramic matrix nanocomposites, self-healing composites, self-reinforced composites, biocomposites and laminates made of metals and polymer matrix composites. The third edition, featuring all figures in color, also includes new solved examples and problems as well as increased coverage of: Carbon/carbon brakes. Composites for civilian aircraft and jet engines. Second generation high-temperature superconducting composites. Composites for use in windmill blades. WC/metal particulate composites. Examples of practical applications in various fields are given throughout the book, and extensive references to the literature are provided. The book is intended for use in graduate and upper-division undergraduate courses, and as a reference for the practicing engineers and researchers in industry and academia.
Book Synopsis Stress-controlled Fatigue Behavior of Silicon Carbide Particle Reinforced Aluminum Alloys by : Jody N. Hall
Download or read book Stress-controlled Fatigue Behavior of Silicon Carbide Particle Reinforced Aluminum Alloys written by Jody N. Hall and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation will investigate the fatigue life, crack initiation and short crack growth behavior of precipitation hardened aluminum alloys reinforced with SiCp using stress-controlled axial and bending fatigue test methods. The effect of reinforcement size and volume fraction along with matrix strength on fatigue behavior will be analyzed. The conclusion of this research will lead to selection of a composite matrix alloy and reinforcement size and volume fraction tailored for a specific high cycle fatigue dependent application based on limited baseline composite data.

Book Synopsis Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences by : Wade H. Shafer
Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer. This book was released on 1996-04-30 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS)* at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dis semination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 39 (thesis year 1994) a total of 13,953 thesis titles from 21 Canadian and 159 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this impor tant annual reference work. While Volume 39 reports theses submitted in 1994, on occasion, certain uni versities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.
Book Synopsis Aluminum Alloys--Contemporary Research and Applications by : A. K. Vasudevan
Download or read book Aluminum Alloys--Contemporary Research and Applications written by A. K. Vasudevan and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 727 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the structure and properties of the current and potential aluminum alloys in terms of their structure (and structural transformations by new processing methods) and the relationship between structure and mechanical and other properties. The alternative materials that challenge aluminum are considered as well, since the challenge of new competitive materials is a strong influence on innovation. The book bridges the gap between current scientific understanding and engineering practice. It is an up-to-date reference that will be of use to researchers and advanced students in metallurgy and materials engineering.
