Book excerpt: When her brother was tragically killed years ago, S. C. was angry, vengeful, sad, and confused. She loved her older brother dearly, and set out to find answers about his death. She started writing to heal herself, and the writing led her to new understandings. In addition to the writing, she began seeking answers. This is how Unveiling was born. Unveiling is based on S. C.'s real life experiences as she searched for answers about her brother. In the Unveiling, Champion, the brother, is the main character and his younger little sister, Seeker, is out looking for answers about why he died. When she starts to uncover the truth about her brother's death, she is awakened to a whole new understanding of life, and she learns secrets to living her own life well. More than 20 years in the making, Unveiling started as a painful tragedy, but developed into a gift when Seeker much like S. C. in real life discovered the gift her brother gave in his death. "The purpose of this book, Unveiling, is to share what Ive learned from this experience," S. C. explains. "My brother's passing was a deep gift because it triggered in me a Spiritual journey, as a result of the gifts he showed me. Life is different when you live from a totally different Spiritual perspective. Life has become easier for me because I now have the tools and understanding of how to be in the world, but not of it."

Book excerpt: Shortlisted for the Sunday Times Cricket Book of the Year 2023 Jazbaa - Definition: spirit, feeling, passion, desire, sentiment, emotion In 1996, Shaiza Khan led a Pakistan team on a tour of New Zealand and Australia. While the tour was a failure on the cricketing front, the singular act of eleven women wearing flannels and battling for victory in the faraway antipodes was a significant achievement. These women had – individually and collectively – worked to throw off the shackles of social and cultural decrees that had conspired to keep Pakistani women away from sport for years. Even more importantly, these players were harbingers of change who became heroic role models for women back home and all around the world. Unveiling Jazbaa tells the story of Pakistan's women's cricket, detailing the extraordinary journey the players have been on to bring about change both in their country and in the sport itself. This is a tale told through the lens of society and politics, of personal battles and triumphs against the odds, of friendships and rivalries, of favours and revenge. Above all else, it is story of bravery and unerring will and a moving testimony to power of the human spirit. Foreword by Kamila Shamsie 'Compelling, ambitious, beautifully written and about so much more than cricket' – Tim Wigmore, The Telegraph and author of the multiple award-winning emCricket 2.0

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are several inspirations and reasons why I decided to write this book. My daughters, Deanna and Mia were two of those inspirations. I was in deep thought one day on how my daughters knew very little of my life growing up and almost nothing of their uncle (Ricky), my deceased brother. Therefore, I decided to tell my story in book form. This book gives you a look inside of my soul of dealing with the lost of my only sibling. This book is also about growing up in Mississippi in the mid 1960’s and the 1970’s. The hope in writing this book is to help dispel any myths about life in Mississippi during those times. Along the way I will resurrect a high school football team from the mid 1970’s that the world may not have known existed by way of its unique assembly. This high school football team reached a height in Mississippi high school football that had never been achieved before. What was more amazing is this team was led by two brothers. One was an undersized defensive lineman who was described by his head coach as “the smallest nose guard in the world at 5’6” 144 pound”. I was that nose guard and the offensive catalyst for this team was my brother, a 6’1” 212 pound devastating and powerful all-American running back.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “There are at least two kinds of games,” states James P. Carse as he begins this extraordinary book. “One could be called finite; the other infinite. A finite game is played for the purpose of winning, an infinite game for the purpose of continuing the play.” Finite games are the familiar contests of everyday life; they are played in order to be won, which is when they end. But infinite games are more mysterious. Their object is not winning, but ensuring the continuation of play. The rules may change, the boundaries may change, even the participants may change—as long as the game is never allowed to come to an end. What are infinite games? How do they affect the ways we play our finite games? What are we doing when we play—finitely or infinitely? And how can infinite games affect the ways in which we live our lives? Carse explores these questions with stunning elegance, teasing out of his distinctions a universe of observation and insight, noting where and why and how we play, finitely and infinitely. He surveys our world—from the finite games of the playing field and playing board to the infinite games found in culture and religion—leaving all we think we know illuminated and transformed. Along the way, Carse finds new ways of understanding everything, from how an actress portrays a role to how we engage in sex, from the nature of evil to the nature of science. Finite games, he shows, may offer wealth and status, power and glory, but infinite games offer something far more subtle and far grander. Carse has written a book rich in insight and aphorism. Already an international literary event, Finite and Infinite Games is certain to be argued about and celebrated for years to come. Reading it is the first step in learning to play the infinite game.
