Book Synopsis Fascinating Tinplate by : David Pressland
Download or read book Fascinating Tinplate written by David Pressland and published by Kerber Verlag. This book was released on 2008 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fascinating Tinplate depicts one of the largest private collections of tinplate toys in Germany, a collection that is here made public for the first time, in close-up photographs that lovingly animate a lost world of playthings. With their handpainted touches, fun wind-up mechanisms and evocations of a bygone epoch's nationalistic pride, tinplate toys offer a visual experience that contemporary toy production can only dream of, and this particular collection, which focuses in particular on early rarities of tinplate, conveys some of the flavor of the working and living conditions of yesteryear. We see begoggled drivers hunched over their steering wheels, passengers parading along a train platform and all manner of railways, cars, steamships, zeppelins and aeroplanes, all photographed as installed, to conjure a living panorama of daily life in the Wilhelminian Empire and the Weimar Republic.
Book Synopsis Manufacturing Processes 4 by : Fritz Klocke
Download or read book Manufacturing Processes 4 written by Fritz Klocke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides essential information on metal forming, utilizing a practical distinction between bulk and sheet metal forming. In the field of bulk forming, it examines processes of cold, warm and hot bulk forming, as well as rolling and a new addition, the process of thixoforming. As for the field of sheet metal working, on the one hand it deals with sheet metal forming processes (deep drawing, flange forming, stretch drawing, metal spinning and bending). In terms of special processes, the chapters on internal high-pressure forming and high rate forming have been revised and refined. On the other, the book elucidates and presents the state of the art in sheet metal separation processes (shearing and fineblanking). Furthermore, joining by forming has been added to the new edition as a new chapter describing mechanical methods for joining sheet metals. The new chapter “Basic Principles” addresses both sheet metal and bulk forming, in addition to metal physics, plastomechanics and computational basics; these points are complemented by the newly added topics of metallography and analysis, materials and processes for testing, and tribology and lubrication techniques. The chapters are supplemented by an in-depth description of modern numeric methods such as the finite element method. All chapters have been updated and revised for the new edition, and many practical examples from modern manufacturing processes have been added.
Download or read book Planet Narnia written by Michael Ward and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2008-01-15 with total page 655 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For over half a century, scholars have laboured to show that C. S. Lewis's famed but apparently disorganised Chronicles of Narnia have an underlying symbolic coherence, pointing to such possible unifying themes as the seven sacraments, the seven deadly sins, and the seven books of Spenser's Faerie Queene. None of these explanations has won general acceptance and the structure of Narnia's symbolism has remained a mystery. Michael Ward has finally solved the enigma. In Planet Narnia he demonstrates that medieval cosmology, a subject which fascinated Lewis throughout his life, provides the imaginative key to the seven novels. Drawing on the whole range of Lewis's writings (including previously unpublished drafts of the Chronicles), Ward reveals how the Narnia stories were designed to express the characteristics of the seven medieval planets - - Jupiter, Mars, Sol, Luna, Mercury, Venus, and Saturn - - planets which Lewis described as "spiritual symbols of permanent value" and "especially worthwhile in our own generation". Using these seven symbols, Lewis secretly constructed the Chronicles so that in each book the plot-line, the ornamental details, and, most important, the portrayal of the Christ-figure of Aslan, all serve to communicate the governing planetary personality. The cosmological theme of each Chronicle is what Lewis called 'the kappa element in romance', the atmospheric essence of a story, everywhere present but nowhere explicit. The reader inhabits this atmosphere and thus imaginatively gains connaître knowledge of the spiritual character which the tale was created to embody. Planet Narnia is a ground-breaking study that will provoke a major revaluation not only of the Chronicles, but of Lewis's whole literary and theological outlook. Ward uncovers a much subtler writer and thinker than has previously been recognized, whose central interests were hiddenness, immanence, and knowledge by acquaintance.

Book Synopsis Faszination des Illegitimen by : Constanze Gestrich
Download or read book Faszination des Illegitimen written by Constanze Gestrich and published by Ergon Verlag. This book was released on 2007 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Jahrhundert. Download or read book Eva Hesse written by Hamburger Kunsthalle and published by Hatje Cantz. This book was released on 2013 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eva Hesse’s later works are fascinating—not least because of her unusual materials Eva Hesse (1936–1970) is one of the foremost artists of the twentieth century. Born in Hamburg, she immigrated to New York via the Netherlands in 1938. Even though Hesse died of a brain tumor at the age of just thirty-four, she left behind a fascinating, highly individual body of work. In the mid-sixties she began experimenting with new materials that had never before been used to produce art objects, such as polyester, fiberglass, and latex. Hesse’s sculptures, which are now included in the collections of major museums around the world, are unique combinations of complex and occasionally contradictory qualities, such as hard and soft, fragile and substantial, abstract and figuratively evocative. This lavishly illustrated book concentrates on sculptures and drawings from the years 1966 to 1970, the last phase of the American artist’s work. -- Publisher’s description.
Book Synopsis The World as a Future Laboratory by : Martina Bonenberger
Download or read book The World as a Future Laboratory written by Martina Bonenberger and published by epubli. This book was released on 2024-05-02 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The World as a Future Laboratory" is an experiment within the global society, aimed particularly at igniting a spark of hope in today's children, youth, and young adults. Hope for a livable future. Hope that we are capable of halting the warming of our planet caused since the Industrial Revolution and, ideally, not exceeding the 1.5-degree limit. The book showcases numerous promising projects underway worldwide, offering a glimpse of a path forward, overcoming apocalyptic sentiments and rekindling optimism for the future, even as nature grows impatient with us. Across the globe, countless innovative startups and dynamic individuals are working to make our future sustainable. Decisive environmental and climate protection measures are essential. World leaders must act swiftly to ensure that the basic needs of the entire human race are met if we are to provide a future for nearly ten billion people in less than thirty years. Courageous representatives who embrace innovation, discard narrow-mindedness, and give the green light to sustainable projects are needed. "The World as a Future Laboratory" is not a guidebook or a visionary tome, although, admittedly, it may be a bit visionary. It speaks to my dream of an intact environment and intact humanity, and the journey to achieve it. The book delves into a total of EIGHT proposed solutions in detail, illustrating how this dream can be realized with unwavering discipline and passion.
