Book Synopsis Evaluation of Forestry Opportunities on Farms in the Beech River Watershed by : Birger W. Ellertsen
Download or read book Evaluation of Forestry Opportunities on Farms in the Beech River Watershed written by Birger W. Ellertsen and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study shows that the most important factors determining the role of forestry on farms are type of land, labor supply, and the rate used to discount future forest income to a present annual value. Also, forestry is not a competitive farm enterprise unless good forestry management is followed.

Download or read book Cutting Strategies & Timber Yields for Unbalanced Even-aged Northern Hardwood Forests written by William B. Leak and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The even-aged hardwood forest, with a poorly balanced distribution of age-classes, can cause perplexing problems during the first rotation. What is the best cutting strategy to follow? By using linear programming, we developed some cutting strategies that maximize board-foot production and produce a balanced age distribution by the end of the first rotation. We developed the strategies for four hypothetical northern hardwood forests with different unbalanced age distributions. Although these strategies may be used for forest lands with conditions similar to those assumed in this study, we urge that the linear programming techniques described in this paper be used to develop strategies tailored to particular forests and to particular management objectives. This book was released on 2003 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foresters and natural resource managers must balance conflicting objectives when developing land-management plans. Conflicts may encompass economic, environmental, social, cultural, technical, and aesthetic objectives. Selecting the best combination of management uses from numerous objectives is difficult and challenging. Multi-Criteria Decision Models (MCDM) provide a systematic means for comparing tradeoffs and selecting alternatives that best satisfy the decisionmakergass objectives. In recent years, the use of MCDM in forestry and natural resources management has generated a substantial body of literature. This annotated bibliography includes 124 important references ranging from theoretical studies to real-world applications of MCDM.
