Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Queens, New York, boasts a rich history that includes dozens of poorly publicized but historically impressive houses. A mix of farmsteads, mansions, seaside escapes, and architecturally significant community dwellings, these homes were owned by America's forefathers, nouveau riche industrialists, Wall Street tycoons, and prominent African American entertainers from the Jazz Age. Rufus King, a senator and the youngest signer of the US Constitution, operated a large family farm in Jamaica, while piano manufacturer extraordinaire William Steinway lived in a 27-room, granite and bluestone Italianate villa in Astoria. Local musicians include Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, James Brown, Ella Fitzgerald, and Lena Horne. Through more than 200 photographs, Historic Houses of Queens explores the borough's most notable residences--their architecture, owners, surrounding neighborhoods, peculiarities, and even their fates as some vanished due to financial problems or fires.

Book excerpt: "Part 1980s and 1990s nostalgia, part exuberant storytelling, I'm So Fine: A List of Famous Men & What I Had On turns a sharply humorous magnifying glass onto gendered interactions in daily life, framed primarily by random celebrity encounters in Los Angeles. Far from a narrative of fame-chasing or conceit, however, I'm So Fine breathlessly addresses what it means for a woman to fight for dignity and survival in an often hostile environment, to come into her own power as she decides what she wants for herself '& mostly gets its every fineness'."--

Download or read book Queen's in Their Name written by Julian Calder and published by . This book was released on 2021-06-21 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Queen Elizabeth II is our longest-serving monarch but with the birth of Prince George there are now no women in the direct line of succession to the British throne. When the Prince of Wales succeeds the Queen, many of the United Kingdom's most celebrated titles which include the monarch's name will be changed. Thus, for at least one hundred years, we will no longer have Queen's Counsel, the Queen's Remembrancer, the Queen's Gentlemen at Arms or the Queen's Harbourmaster for example. With the consent of Her Majesty, Julian Calder has photographed the holders of some of the most prestigious - and some of the most arcane - titles that have Queen's in their Name and the result, which is accompanied by a richly detailed text, is a glorious celebration of these titles and the people that hold them.

Book Synopsis The Top 5 Most Famous Queens by : Charles River Editors
Download or read book The Top 5 Most Famous Queens written by Charles River Editors and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2013-09-05 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: *Includes pictures. *Includes bibliographies of each queen for further reading. In the early 20th century, over 3,000 years after her death, Nefertiti became a household name across the world and one of the most famous women of the ancient world. Egyptologists were aware that she was a queen of the New Kingdom Egypt during the later portion of the 18th dynasty, but she was little known until the presentation of a reconstructed bust depicting her at the Berlin Museum in 1924. Nefertiti means "the beautiful one has come," and if the presented bust is anything to judge by she, was indeed a beautiful woman. Cleopatra was a captivating figure even to contemporary Romans and the ancient world, and she was a controversial figure who was equally reviled and praised through the years, depicted as a benevolent ruler and an evil seductress, sometimes at the same time. Over 2,000 years after her death, everything about Cleopatra continues to fascinate people around the world, from her lineage as a Ptolemaic pharaoh, her physical features, the manner in which she seduced Caesar, her departure during the Battle of Actium, and her famous suicide. And despite being one of the most famous figures in history, there is still much mystery surrounding her, leading historians and archaeologists scouring Alexandria, Egypt for clues about her life and the whereabouts of her royal palace and tomb. As one of the most famous women rulers in history, Russian Empress Catherine the Great has long been remembered not only as one of the most powerful women of her time, but she was also one of the most powerful and capable rulers in all of Europe. And her path to the throne was just as remarkable as her reign. Despite the strong-arm tactics, Catherine came to power in the midst of the Enlightenment, which was flourishing in France and Britain, and she would rule as an Enlightened ruler. A known correspondent of Voltaire's, Catherine sought to modernize Russia and turn it into a force in its own right, creating a rich and cultured court at the same time. Over the course of nearly 35 years in power, Catherine ushered in the Russian Enlightenment and presided over a period of time known as the Golden Age of the Russian Empire. When Queen Elizabeth II came to the throne in 1952, many commentators heralded the beginning of her reign as the second Elizabethan age. The first one, of course, concerned the reign of Henry VIII's second surviving daughter and middle surviving child, Queen Elizabeth I, one of England's most famous and influential rulers. It was an age when the arts, commerce and trade flourished. It was the epoch of gallantry and great, enduring literature. It was also an age of wars and military conflicts in which men were the primary drivers and women often were pawns. Elizabeth I still wielded great power in the 16th century, whereas Victoria was a constitutional monarch with limited power over the workings of the British government. But in a way, that made Victoria even more unique, as she still proved able to mold the cultural identity of a nearly 65 year long epoch. Furthermore, Victoria established some of the ceremonial customs of the British monarch and became both the forerunner and role model of subsequent queens, a legacy that continues to endure with her great-great granddaughter, Queen Elizabeth II.
Book Synopsis The Queen of Lovers "We Need You." by : Dr. Badal W. Kariye
Download or read book The Queen of Lovers "We Need You." written by Dr. Badal W. Kariye and published by Author House. This book was released on 2011-06-09 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preface I would like to tell you that the Queen of Lovers We need you, is a fictional romantic novel based on multichannel travels for love and espionage in our world where people practice various lifestyles in love & work. This magnificent espionage began in the United States of America where I was encountered to fall in love with the Queen of lovers who changed my lifestyle into the unknown of the dangerous world of counter espionage and betrayals among the leading intelligence communities. It wasn't easy job to fall in love with a spymaster who's been carrying out covert operations around the world, and it was very difficult challenge for me to master her underground strategic intelligence and reconnaissance while I was still interesting in love with the Queen of lovers. We'd arranged many ins and outs for our love affairs in emotional romance but we're very suspicious to divulge our normal jobs to each other until I suspected her that she was deliberately working for the government in counter espionage operations locally, regionally and globally. I didn't really like to meet with spymaster to be as my Queen of lovers in the world but everything has been predestined, and we couldn't decide who to fall in love? However; our Lord is The Most Gracious and The Most Merciful who made possible for us to interact and fall in love with each other. Romance & Lovers are extremely interconnected friendly in this world where people chose their different ways of love involvement or love discourage in envy anyhow; few people succeeded to keep their promises until one of them retires from sexual curiosity or dies. It's very rare to meet your spouse as the government spymaster, and if you didn't know before then you're highly at risk to be assassinated before you fizzle out her top level security clearance in some countries. My Queen of lovers and I went to visit different continents such as Asia, Australia, Africa, The Caribbean, South America & Parts of North America. Weve met a lot of multicultural and multiracial nationalities who committed to live and work for better democracy in love than their governments, which my Queen of lovers has been spying on. I couldn't handle the devilish stress of espionage in top secrets from the governments, which have been opposite to the national and security interests of our beloved country within the nations of many nationalities. Love in destiny or without destiny, well taste it carefully and legally but when you fall in love with spymaster then you'll always meet undetectable situations and anonymous hunters who can be anything with credentials from the government to cover up dirty jobs. Don't be a victim of spymaster! You better always ask before you make any relationship with somebody! I love my Queen of lovers finally, and you taught me a lot in governmental secrecy, and how a spymaster acts as a romantic lover to use my linguistic abilities during secretive missions in various continents. I love you my Queen!
