Book excerpt: Families are equal parts blood, duty, history, fights, and future. Families are beautiful, complicated, and infuriating. Pastors' doors revolve with families looking for healing from one another. Siblings hold grudges for years. Parents stop speaking to their kids. People want to escape their families and fix them, celebrate them, and never speak to them again. But what can break our generational curses? What can shine bright light into our dark hearts? What can change everything - even our ugliest family feuds? God's grace and His forgiveness. Family Trees and Olive Branches points readers to the authority and comfort of Scripture as they seek to repair and improve their family relationships. Inspired by Matthew 18:22, Family Trees and Olive Branches is a conversation about grace, the oil that unsticks fighting families. No matter how black the sheep of your family is, how hurtful your parents can be, or how long it has been since you've spoken to your brother, God's answer to family fallouts is always grace. In this book, readers will look at the different types of olive branches in the Bible with the purpose of opening their hearts and minds to spiritual transformation through the work of the Holy Spirit. Each chapter offers lessons of forgiveness, tips on reflecting God's grace in our toughest relationships, journal and prayer prompts, and discussion starters.

Book excerpt: Apostle Paul explains in Romans 11th Chapter elaborately God's provisions and His plan for the salvation of Gentiles. He writes that it was not because of Israel's stumbling or because they were stumbling blocks to any body that their eyes were blinded; that their ears were hard on hearing. They fell short of understanding Messiah, and believed that they need to do something for their salvation. They always insisted that because God had done some good for them they also need to do some good for God as recompense. They think that they owe to God some obligation. It is because of their misunderstanding, and rejection of Jesus as their Messiah that salvation is come unto the Gentiles The Gentiles are partakers of the root and fatness of the natural olive tree. Therefore, he says, Gentiles should not be of high-minded, but fear. The branches of the natural olive tree were broken off by God himself, because of their unbelief, and the Gentiles, who were like wild olive trees have, now, the sap and blessings from the root of the natural olive tree. If Gentiles were to be high-minded and take pride in themselves or their own merits, God will not hesitate to chastise them. If God did not spare the natural branches of the olive tree would he tolerate the grafted olive tree; never!

Book excerpt: The house next door to Sameer’s had been empty for as long as he could remember. The family had gone away when the war began. But now they were back, and he was ready to have fun with his new playmate. Together they could climb the big olive tree that overlooked both their gardens, and eat the delicious olives it produced. The only problem was that Muna, the little girl next door, didn’t want to play and she didn’t want to share the olives. She said they belonged to her family alone—that is, until one fateful night when lightning struck the tree. Poignantly told by award-winning author Elsa Marston and with beautiful paintings from award-winning illustrator Claire Ewart, The Olive Tree follows two children as they learn to share and work together by looking past their differences. It shows young readers that compassion and understanding lie at the heart of all friendships.

Knowing about our historical background can influence our personality, behaviors, beliefs and values, correlating positively to our feelings of belonging. Just as not knowing can sometimes affect our sense of 'place', and may lead to feelings of isolation. This is a book about family, about the travels of the descendants of Silverio Flores & Melita Carmen Nunez, many of whom lost touch over many decades but who have recently reconnected the pieces of their puzzle. Seeker of Lost Tribes Raine De Vant, who is married to one of these descendants, along with researcher Delia A. Guzman, another direct descendant, were able to follow the Flores trail back to Silverio's birth town, where Flores families still live, and beyond. Photos, dates and records have been added to this anthology of the finally and forever reunited Flores Family.

This book is the accumulation of the knowledge learned by the author through personal experiences and the wisdom of spiritual principles from God's Word. Multiple topics are covered to help and support families. aEURC/ Love languages aEURC/ Discipline aEURC/ Teaching work ethics and the handling of money aEURC/ Spiritual training aEURC/ Grace gifts and temperaments aEURC/ Releasing our married children Whether just starting a family or helping to raise grandchildren, there is a wealth of information to assist you. Why olive plants? When you eat the labor of your hands, You shall be happy, and it shall be well with you. Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine in the very heart of your house, Your children like olive plants all around your table. Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD. (Psalms 128:2aEUR"4) In this blessing, God compared your children to olive plants and commissioned them to be all around your table. My question was, aEURoeWhy olive plants?aEUR Here are some facts I found about the olive tree: The olive tree is one of the most beloved, sacred trees in Israel. It has strong roots that live for thousands of years. They are evergreen trees bearing valuable fruit all year long. Olive trees can grow in a rocky environment with poor soil conditions. They need a sunny position and regular watering to thrive. The olive tree grows quickly the first four years, producing a beautiful white flower. Maturing of the olive tree slows down, developing fruit several years later. The olive leaf extract possesses extreme healing properties. The olive branch is a symbol of peace. The expensive olive wood is fragrant, colorful, dense, and durable. The wood is used for fine furniture and the making of items of religious significance. The wood is seasoned and cleaned by applying oil and rubbing with salt. The olive fruit is very bitter if not processed correctly. With careful preparation, it is a delicious, salty addition to our diet. The Israelites considered an abundance of oil as a sign of prosperity and favor. The olive oil is used to produce light and as an anointing oil for healing. Judges 9:9 says that oil was used to honor God and men. The olive tree is cherished and loved for what it gives the nation of Israel. Our little olive plants should be cherished and loved for what they can do for the kingdom of God.
